Booked Grand Hyatt using membership points for my short excursion in Guangzhou. Location is great for wandering around Zhujiang New Town, despite the fact the hotel is one of the shortest in height among buildings around. Can't really see the Tower from my room, but the city view was not bad. Breakfast was fantastic. I enjoyed the room so much. I had a great sleep and extended my checkout time for a long nap, without extra cost.
Good service is expected in all Five Star hotels like Grand Hyatt GZ, but Grand Hyatt GZ excelled by having a flexible team providing exceptional service with personal touch. I first stayed a night for business and then decided to stay on another 2 nights! Well done!
I booked this hotel for its great location and a supposed "Forbes 4-Star Rating", and I was a bit disappointed in the inconsistencies in service, especially in Grand Club, and facilities that are showing their age. Breakfast was fantastic, probably the best I've ever had, but food offerings in Happy Hour was a bit of hit-or-miss. I would not consider this property unless the rooms were fully refurbished, and there were substantial improvements in guest services.
If you're ever in Guangzhou I would highly recommend the Grand Hyatt. Facilities are excellent, WIFI is fast and allows speedy VPN connection. Food is excellent, and service is comparable to their western counterparts. I was only disappointed that during breakfast none of their staff strictly enforced COVID rules: guests were walking about without their masks on, some even talking loudly on their mobile phones while helping themselves to food. This is unacceptable.
A nice weekend getaway in Guangzhou, I'm always a big proponent of a room with a view. With this in mind, I went with the "Canton Tower View Room", which was, well, a little bit off. Sure, the Canton Tower can be viewed from the room, but only at a certain angle, and not from the comfort of either the bed or the couch. The hotel itself is in a location, with a nice pool and other things expected of a Grand Hyatt, but maybe not totally worth the price of admission. Overall though, it is fine, which can be a terrible thing to say. I think the only other Grand Hyatt I've stayed at was in Singapore, and that too, was on par, but like this one, just a little bit off...
