We were on a Trans Mongolian Railway trip and stayed for one day in Irkutsk at Galina. She was very helpful with suggestions and directions and her pancakes were delightful and came from a bottomless pan. I guess if we wanted she would have kept on cooking for hours. Her cakes and homemade jams were brilliant as well.

We paid R7600 for two people for four days. There are two sections to Galina’s Homestay: the original space in the old wooden house and some newer spaces in an adjacent new building. Other guests felt equally positive about their space in the new building. Our room was the double in the old building, with generous space. The other two... More

Everything was just perfect. Galina is the loveliest lady we have met during our time in Russia. She provides travellers with freshly baked pancakes (Blini) and homemade jam every morning, organized everything for us during our stay free of charge (e.g. diving instructor for Lake Baikal, bus to Olkhon Island etc.) and we had some nice long talks with her... Spotlessly clean, airy room. 3 bed roomed newly renovated apartment equals a hostel. Galina was able to help me with my onward travel despite my lack of Russian language. Directions for public transport from railway station were clear and worked. Was nice to have a modern kitchen and bathe as a luxury.

I stayed one night there, because the other hostel that I was staying in was booked for that night. This hostel was very nice. It was the cleanest hostel that I have ever stayed in, and because the hostel is itself a large apartment transformed into a hostel, it was very cozy. Also, she cooks a very good breakfast and... We booked this in order to try a real Russian homestay experience, so of course we didn't expect a luxury B&B. The house is placed very centrally in the city centre and less than 10 minutes by taxi to the train station. From reading previous reviews, I knew that Galina speaks German but not English. Therefore I was actually looking... More

We love this woman. The greatest pancakes (blini!) on earth from the warmest woman in Russia. As I've said on other reviews in Russia, for me it's more about the people you meet than the places you stay. Galina - Queen of Russia! Only gripe was a bit of a pong in our small room from the street or somewhere..... More

We loved everything about Galina's! The rooms are clean, light & airy. Great amenities. The best part though is Galina herself, very lovely woman who will go out of her way to help & make you comfortable. She cooks the best breakfast too! As much bliny as you can eat, homemade preserves & jams, cakes, dill cucumbers and of course... More

We stayed there in May 2014, as part of our Transsiberian trip. Galina is a nice host - she let us keep our lugagge there while we went on our trip to lake Baikal. The house is near Irkutsk center, although 1 km away from the railway station (you have nice transport by tram, tough). Very nice breakfast cooked by... More

Galina is the reason you come here! She is a very charismatic and caring lady. She doesn't speak English but will go out of her way to help you. Breakfast is homemade pancakes and is delicious. The only gripe is there is only one toilet and bathroom for everyone but it's manageable and not a large homestead. Galina is a... More
