Enjoy your stay in Irkutsk!
The rooms are not large or well-decorated, but they are very comfortable. The management really go out of their way to make your stay more enjoyable. It's all in the details --- breakfast brought right to your room (!), staff doing whatever they can to help you (despite speaking no English). The price is extremely reasonable, and overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. The only thing worth noting is the location. The city center is a good 20 minutes walk away, and the surroundings have pretty much nothing of interest. When it's -30 outside, you may want to take this into consideration!
Modul is a small, comfortable hotel where you can sleep very well. The rooms have a double door to block out hallway noise (brilliant), heavy/blackening-out curtains, and a comfortable bed. They also come equipped with a fridge and a kettle, quite convenient. Great water pressure. Wifi works well. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Squeaky clean. My only complaint is the location. It's far from the centre (~20-min walk to the nearest attraction). I'm not sure why it has a 9.3 for location on booking.com. I wouldn't mind the walk so much, but the surrounding streets don't have streetlights (there's a bit of light from some stores/traffic lights), and they are fairly deserted. My opinion is also coloured by the creepy man on a bicycle who tried to talk to me at night on my way home, close to the hotel. I think it's fine if you're with someone else, but as a solo female, I'd prefer something more central. "…
Larissa & Eugene, the owners, are so friendly and helpful. Despite their having no English and us no Russian, google translate worked a treat! Eugene very kindly collected us from the station and was such a nice welcome. We wanted to go to Listvyanka, so they helped us book tickets online and even paid with their card as ours wouldn't work, again dropping us at the station. They made our stay in Irkutsk and the hostel was ideal for us. Clean, great location. We had maps.me app which worked really well so we walked pretty much everywhere. Highly recommend Modul!
Modul is located behind 57 Trilissera st.,in an independent building in the middle of other buildings so no street noise at all ,I stayed 2 nights in this super clean place Owner spoke no English but bent over backwards to provide any info I needed. From the railroad station take Tram 1,to the central market and bus station to Okhlon or Listvyanka take N6 or 3 .Perfect WiFi. Central market/bus station are also reachable by a 15 mn walk following the tram track. No breakfast served but big supermarket across the street.
The host could not do enough. they are just starting out and they need to be given a go. the TV was great (some stations in English) they was very helpful with eating places etc. the shower was wonderful They only need a booster box in the rooms for Wifi to each room. Also the garden needs work, first appearance is not good, but do not let that turn you off
