Repair is needed: walls, curtains, old furniture, floors, sewerage - everything requires repair. It's not worth the money you put into something empty. Disappointment.
There used to be a hotel with a beautiful reception desk, made in an old style, and attentive staff. Now it is turning into a hostel served by rude young people, barely older than school age.

We, a family group stayed at the Nevsky 22 for four nights in early June with 2 rooms booked.
We arrived from the airport (I had booked a transfer for 4 adults for 68 euros), and they could only find one of the two booked rooms listed on their computer. Fortunately they had a spare room for one night and told us to check the next day about the other nights, so eventually we had all nights covered.
One of the rooms was quite small, with a small bathroom, and sitting on the toilet with feet into shower! The second room was much larger, with a shower in the bath. Rooms were kept very clean.
Each floor is like a separate hotel, with its security door and breakfast room. Our floor was manned by a very serious young girl. We did try to get a smile out of her - no luck there. We had our breakfasts on the floor where our daughter had her room. It was much friendlier.
Breakfasts were basic but adequate.
The main reception was on floor 3 and staff there were very helpful when we needed information about tours. Only other problem we had was on checking out. They thought we had not paid for the missing room. On our paperwork for this hotel, it stated that each room had been fully paid. We eventually had this sorted out, and we did get some sort of apology for their mistakes.
The hotel is in a great position. 50 metres to the Nevsky Prospect and located between the Hermitage and the Church of Spilled Blood.
I had been vigorously discouraged by several travel agents on travelling independently in Russia - problems with language, strict visa requirements, dangerous, but I have to say we encountered no problems. I researched the visas, and applied directly to the Russian Consulate in Australia and they were issued within the time we had paid for. We had no problem making ourselves understood, even at little streetside food kiosks. I had heard many stories of pickpockets, muggings, police thuggery, and we encountered none of this. My daughter and I even went to the flea market, which we were warned was rife with pickpockets.
Be aware that most museums close one or two days a week. (Usually on a day that suits them, not always the same day). We had planned on visiting St Isaacs, only to find it closed.
Nevsky 22 is a good little hotel, just don't expect too much luxury. Things are done differently in Russia. Which I guess is why we all want to see it.

We stayed for 3 nights as a family with two teenagers, rented 2 rooms. We were very surprised when we checked in.
Pros: location. Elevator.
Cons: 1) The rooms do not match those in the photo on the website. TVs are small. In a room that claims to have one large bed, in fact two are pushed together and are constantly moving apart.
A separate topic is cleaning. In one room there were only two large towels with holes and that's it. The second contains two large ones, two small ones and a towel for feet.
When I asked for at least slippers, the rude older cleaning lady answered me: “This is an economy class hotel, nothing is allowed here, well, if you really need it, then ask the administrator.”... And she continued chatting loudly with her colleague in the corridor.
Still, later they brought us slippers. True, some of them were taken away during the first cleaning. Also, without asking, they threw out things that we did not plan to part with and they were not in the trash can.
After my second request, they did not bring a foot towel. And on the third day a miracle happened and we had 4 towels for our feet.
BUT the children did not have to tidy up every day and for some reason the foot towel was taken away.
There are no norms. It's a mess. I don't recommend it. Ruin your vacation.

Don't check in at all! We booked these apartments a month and a half in advance- we drove from Gelendzhik to Peter- arrived around 12:00 a.m., they tried to move us into this room, although we booked improved, and it's not even economy, it's kind of a dorm room from where the photo is unknown- doesn't really match the photo from the word at all, not even close. When asked to change rooms, they said no to others why they moved into the wrong room for which we couldn't answer. After almost 2 days on the road we did not meet, stood for an hour arguing that either take this room or leave, they do not want to make a refund, and also claim that we spent the night in this room, although we gave the keys and left for another hotel. Disgusting attitude towards tourists, has not met this attitude in a long time. Don't take these apartments for any money, not even free

There are two people at the reception who look like homeless people. The linen in the room is washed, but dirty from time to time, the stains can no longer be washed out. Water leaks from the shower into the hallway onto the carpet, so the baseboards are swollen. The walls are dirty. Disgusting!

We stayed in a standard room with a large bed. Just terrible and not a hotel.
We were checked into a room located in some courtyard in another building at the address Konyushennaya 25. There is simply no information on the website about any other address. There isn't even a kettle in the room.
In the end, I finished off breakfast, where they provide plastic cutlery and containers.
Gondelovka is still the same!

What a pleasant surprise after we pulled up to a typically old building and Sterile, staircase leading to an old elevator. We took the elevator to the third floor- you have to be buzzed in along the whole process. We opened the door to a charming floor of rooms, a cafe and reception desk. We had booked the only suite- complete with a sauna and Jacuzzi tub. The room was large and well decorated and clean. Location was the best- walk to everything. The other rooms were smallish with twin size beds, but service was excellent, the girls at the front desk exceptional. Do not pay more than 500-550 rubles to get to the hotel from the airport- we were overcharged by double!! Nice little continental breakfast included served in the sunny cafe
Overall a great hotel- get the suite- it's worth it!!!

I stayed at Nevsky Grand Hotel in Saint Petersburg, Russia for 3 nights in June during the White Nights period.
I was robbed 80 euros (out of 320 euros present in my wallet) in my hotel room and the hotel was able to show that the only other person who could enter the room was the cleaning lady (i.e. the person who discretely stole the money, thinking I wouldn't notice it). Yet, the hotel manager told me that I could be inventing this story to make money (!!!) and blamed me for leaving negative comments in their guestbook! As I was leaving my comments, a security guard was called and snatched the guestbook away from me. No comment on this behavior.
Instead of apologizing and/or offering a consolation prize (a chocolate bar, for example!), the hotel manager called the police to try to solve the issue. They asked me to sign a document in Russian attesting that I will not pursue the robbery case any further. They said that if I did not sign the document, I would have problems entering Russia in the future. Of course, the police could not prove anything, as cash theft is impossible to prove. Instead of trying to solve the case in a "friendly" manner, the hotel was simply inadequate, abusive, and impolite, just to protect their employee.
I know that the living situation is difficult in St Petersburg, and that if fired, the employee may not find another job easily, but this does not in any way justify the hotel's behavior.
In any case, I am not claiming my money back because I know that they cannot prove it. I just want to express my opinion and give this hotel the WORST rating possible, because its management is simply a failure. They have no idea how to treat their guests. Instead of courteously apologizing and maybe offering a consolation present, they accused me of stirring chaos in the hotel by complaining, and of possibly making the whole story up to make money!!! I paid a lot of money to get my Russian visa, airline ticket, hotel reservation, etc. not in order to make up a story like that and waste the little time I had in the city!!!
Everyone interested in this hotel should be aware of this story, which is why I persist on this matter although it dates from June. This behavior is not and should never be acceptable. This should not happen again. I'm sure that this maid stole money discretely in the past, and maybe she will steal in the future, maybe not. But the question is NOT about the maid. It is about the hotel, its managers, and the hotel's attitude.
The way they treated me as a client is simply unacceptable.
Note: I tried to leave a comment on booking.com, which issued the hotel reservation, but this was not possible because I bought the reservation from an affiliate website: flybaboo.ch. In any case, I am glad I could leave my comment here, and would greatly appreciate if people could help me spread it in any way.

Booked this hotel via Cultuzz and got an excellent price. This was welcome as prices for accommodation in St Petersburg are a rip off.
Check in was fine and the staff were friendly by Russian standards.
Our room (on the 7th floor) was pretty small but functional.
It was hot in August and there was no air con but there was a desk fan provided. We slept with the window open one night and got nearly 100 bites between us! Never thought I'd get bit in St Petersburg but I did so pack the repellent!
Location was great, just off the Nevsky Prospeckt (main road through the city) and most attractions were within walking distance.
Breakfast was buffet style and not bad.
If you're thinking of booking tours on the net I wouldn't bother. The kiosks on Nevsky Prospeckt are much cheaper. We booked with City-Discovery.com and paid twice as much as we would have for an identical tour from one of the kiosks, plus their communication was dire to say the least and we were left with no vouchers which only materialised after several expensive phone calls.
If I had to pay full price for this hotel I would have been a little disappointed however as I said before prices in St Petersburg are extortionate.
Also don’t go to St Petersburg and expect customer service, service in many restaurants is horrendous and staff can be pretty rude. That said we met some really nice people as well.

Dear Sir/Madame,
Cleanliness is our priority, rooms are not big, superior rooms are more spacious. When you make a booking, please make a remark "room with friege". Relatively easy to get to our hotel by public transportation. One metro station then some 5-7 minutes walking.
We look forward to welcoming you to Nevsky Grand Hotel.
Tatiana Berkova, Quality Manager
Dear Madame,
We have refrigerators in a few standard rooms of ours, in all superior rooms and suites. Please add to your booking a request "refrigerator" and we try to take your preference in consideration.
Faithfully yours,
Tatiana Berkova, Quality Manager
Dear Ms. Vehvilainen,
Our buffett breakfast assortiment is big enough, the gluten free choice is limited. We have meat, cooked vegetables, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables limited. If you have an option to book a room with no breakfast, you will find a place near the hotel to have a breakfast "a la carte"
Yours sincerely,
Tatiana Berkova, Quality Manager
Dear Sir/Madame,
The Trip Advisor policy doesn't permit any references to sites or email addresses. Please call our central reservation office
+7 812 7033860 and they will assist you wth pleasure. Open from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. (Moscow time)
Faithfully yours,
Tatiana Berkova, Quality Manager
Dear Madame,
A few parking places reserved for Nevsky Grand Hotel belong to the city, they are under video cameras observation but the hotel doesn't carry any responsibility for the place. There is a big parking (in doors) in front of the hotel, relatively expensive.
Faithfully yours,
Tatiana Berkova
