There is something to compare with - we have been to more than one 5* hotel in St. Petersburg, the attitude towards guests is the best!!!
First of all, I would like to note the excellent work of the staff of this place. Service is up to par. There was definitely something to leave a tip for)
We rested with the whole family and left with pleasant emotions and a good opinion of the owner.
The interior had excellent taste, which coincided with ours; everything was pleasing to the eye.
Very good location, hotels staff makes you feel special, with numerous times cleaning your room for you for different time of the day.
Good home style restaurant in the hotel. It was GREAT.
to the center of the city. Nevskiy Prospect is two blocks away with everything from big internet cafes about five minutes walk
Hotel staff is helpful and courteous. Its restaurants are absolutely
class. There is a casino in the hotel which I didn't use mostly because I'd rather spend time in the city than in a casino. There is a lot of security in the hotel maybe because lots of rich people come to the casino.
Only pet peeve about the hotel is that they didn't offer any luggage assistance when I checked in and out. Too many security personnel, too few bell boys. I gave them feedback which they acted instantly. Sign of good management.
Overall though I was quite happy with the hotel and its location. The 24 hour coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, 24 hour supermarkets all are with a minute walk.
Hotel even has a Bentley to pick you up from the airport.. but
I didn't use it..
The breakfast place was on the 2nd floor (on the first morning the young host greeted me warmly in a major language of my country) and their F. M. Dostoevsky restaurant on the first floor next to the front desk. Why one would name a restaurant after a famous writer was not obvious, except that FMD's Knuznechny Lane apartment home, now a museum, was no more than a few minutes' walking distance. I had most of my meals in the restaurant. As an eatery it was first rate. Their menu – first class – uniqueness was their certain dishes inspired by Kandinsky and Malevich's paintings, a ‘boutique’ element. I recall – to provide a bit of detail to curious as well as to connoisseurs- among the latter specials I tried the replica of Kandinsky’s ‘Soft tensions’ (lamb, zucchini, eggplant, plums, paprika, red sauce) with Cru Lermont Pinot Noir Fanagoria (the waiter’s recommendation), replica of Malevich’s ‘Suprematism, Pointless Composition’ (chocolate, raspberry, cocoa and biscuit), replica of Kandinsky’s ‘Untitled 1927’(curd cheese, cream, quince, nuts, caramel) with great pleasure. In retrospect I wished I also tried Malevich’s ‘Black Square’ (black caviar, lemon)! I was impressed by their service, received personal attention of the lady who was in charge and was also impressed by the etiquette and efficiency of three first class young men who waited -- superlative. After the order was placed, every time I was surprised with some special appetizer on a plate, served by the waiter, with the introduction, 'the chef's compliment!'
There were other unique elements as well in the hotel, such as: every evening when I returned to my room, on the table was a printed note from the management providing the city’s next day’s weather forecast. During the dinner time there was entertainment in the restaurant, a Russian song-dance programme, and vocal music. Not overwhelming, but acceptably good.
The front desk efficiency varied but I would like to mention the special assistance I received from the young lady Margarita (that is the name I recall), who was from Siberia and was studying tourism, that made my visit to the Hermitage with a personal guide -- which at one point seemed impossible -- possible. That meant numerous phone calls and probably even persuasions.
Two experiences in the hotel are likely to remain with me forever. The uniqueness of the dishes conceived based on the paintings of Kandinsky and Malevich, with the chef's first-class rendering of those into culinary pleasures. The second is the everyday champagne breakfast in an extraordinary ambience – in a class, I felt, above the best of classes – almost ethereal. This is probably saying a bit too much, but only a bit.
