Eugene, Oregon
Reviewed June 9, 2007

I stayed at the Hotel Mir for two nights in mid-May 2007. This is a large high rise hotel located across the street from the US Embassy, and also across the street from the Moscow White House, the seat of Moscow government. It's about a ten minute walk from the nearest Metro stop. I understand that the Old Arbat shopping...

The place was cheap, at least in Moscow standards, about $110 a night. The room was plenty warm enough, considering it was -30 degrees outside. The room was old, worn, and fairly depressing. My bed was MAYBE the size of a twin, but sort of cozy after a week. The mini bar was an ok deal, considering it was 20...

Staying in Arbat

Neighborhood Profile
Arbat
Crowds of tourists, both local and international take in Old Arbat and its modern and gigantic peer – New Arbat. One reason visitors keep coming is no doubt Konstantin Melnikov’s famous private house, now open to the public and worthy of a visit. After exploring one of the oldest parts of Moscow, avoid the crowds and turn to the side streets and boulevards where calmness and affordable food is plentiful.
