I didn't actually stay there. Rather, I saw it and left. My first clue should have been that when I called and asked for the 4-bed female dorm the desk guy said they don't have one and wondered why people ask for that. (It's on the website.) I thought he recommended the 8-bed dorm because I wanted an ensuite so he saved me a bottom bunk, I thought. I arrived at 11pm and entering the courtyard nearly fell into a huge deep hole. My first views, of the outside ground floor looked nothing like the photo shown here. Even in the dark I knew I wouldn't want to sit on the funky fabric furniture there. The office was still open so I came in to check in. The nice girl at the desk (I'd spoken with her earlier) was checking someone else in, so, I wandered into dorm #8, my assigned room. (I've never done that before but I was questioning wanting to stay here.) At 11pm the lights were out but in the low light of this musty-or-wosrse-smelling room I could see the long wall of bunks, each occupied, another short wall of occupied bunks (maybe one empty top bunk), a creepy looking cement-block maybe-toilet, then a little tunnel, then a little square room lined with occupied bunks. I've stayed in hostel dorms for several years worth of nights, but I've never felt so depressed or creeped out in one. I got the feeling no one in there was there was a backpacker/traveler/tourist. I don't think there was a single woman in this "mixed dorm." I couldn't wait to get out of there. (Besides, there was no bottom bunk being held for me.) Perhaps the rooms upstairs were nicer? I can't say from first-hand experience. I told the woman at reception and the manager that I have never been so disappointed at a hostel; that what I see is nothing like the photos. The photos were indeed quite old, they admitted. I hate posting a bad review but I feel it's necessary to warn people. Plus, I have learned that others have also opted to not check in there. I have never left a hostel before.…
this is a great hostel, full of atmosphere, warmth and right in the centre of cluj. can't fault it really. there's a common area where you can cook and the beds are comfortable too. i was given a free towel and they put the heating on in the evening as it got pretty cold. girls on the desk are lovely too. so yeah...fantastic place!
Very central, good thing that they provide bed linen (not all hostels do), I liked the common rooms upstairs and downstairs. Internet was ok. It was actually my fault that I forgot the PIN, but I advise travellers to pay attention when you checkin, and keep the pin handy and not stick together with your documents, like I did. Or you will be locked out, unless a friendly person is awake and opens the door for you
This was the first hostel we ever stayed at and the experience was alright. The only problem for us was the noise from the common lounge upstairs and the shower being a bit.. janky. The cleaning man was awesome, the staff seemed a bit stiff and condescending with us, but we brushed it off on them being tired. All in all, a good stay, but only for hip, party-all-night type of people.
Located in the center of the city this place has very cool design and wall paintings. Is also clean and has a welcoming air. Kind, friendly staff and correct pricing. It has also double rooms available. They are not so big, but provide comfort and every corner is clean. I would gladly return.
