We had a wonderful stay at this hotel many years ago and we made the mistake to think it's still the same. Unfortunately, things got better, but also worse. The hotel had some upgrades since last time, but the upgrades were way too old to be noticed today. Let's start with the hotel part: Pros: - a relative tranquility/silence inside the room, although not all the time; - cleanliness expected from a 3 (three) star hotel (not a mistake); - spacious room, bathroom, terrace; - very large terrace as mentioned above, with comfortable wooden sunbeds; - nice nespresso machine in the room; - large spa available, with multiple indoor/outdoor facilities; - shop inside the hotel with a large selection of clothing and wines; Cons: - although the hotel advised no pets allowed, there was a Labrador next door, which was mostly left neglected all day/night long on the terrace, excrements all over the place, smelling very bad and made our stay on the terrace impossible. In the morning the dog was probably hungry and kept barking for all the valley to hear it. I love dogs and the Labrador was a beautiful girl, but... the smell was really bad and we could not enjoy the terrace, apart from petting the dog; - the cleanliness mentioned was not worthy of a 4 star hotel, the wall tiles inside the shower gave the impression there was a diesel oil flooding inside the shower, remaining stained at a 10-15 cm level, the wall tiles grout was moldy, the bathroom countertop was not for bathroom wet/humid environment, as a result it was moldy and stained, the bathroom radiator top was full of rust (all these could have easily solved with proper maintenance); - shower cabin too small for such a large bathroom, it was probably replaced during the last hotel/room upgrade and they decided to go for a cheaper cabin, for me it was too small; - hot water not available around the clock, I didn't try it at night, but in the morning it was available only after 07.30; - elevators under repairs, for going up and down not a problem but with baggage, different story; - not necessarily related to the hotel, but to reach the place, the road was quite bad in several places. For the restaurant part: Pros: - the hotel restaurant (Forest) had very good food, nice staff, the breakfast was buffet style, with glass partition and served by staff, a nice improvement during the pandemic, which also helps to reduce waste; - in theory 3 restaurants belonging to the resort, in case different food was needed; Cons: - insufficient restaurant space for all the hotel guests, as a result the guests had to decide in advance what time they want to wake up and eat their breakfast, having to choose between 08-09, 09-10, 10-11; - although when entering the hotel restaurant the staff insisted to wear a mask until reaching the table, not everyone was wearing masks, including the some of the staff; - the nearby restaurant called Fork was not open during our stay; - the nearby restaurant called GastroLab was staffed by people that needed a lot of training, we were not treated the way we expected, it was as they didn't care if we eat there or not. For the Spa part: Pros: - sufficient options available, large pool for a bit of swimming (don't expect Olympic), spring water indoor/outdoor jacuzzi, salt water indoor jacuzzi, sauna, salt room, massage; - bar available next to the pool area; Cons: - there was a moldy smell at all the warm water facilities, despite the salt water and chlorine in the water; - the upgrading works carried out right near the outdoor jacuzzi were quite noisy (they could be heard all over the valley, including from inside the room. There were some construction drilling rigs and other bulldozer equipment in the area. As there's nothing to do around the hotel (especially considering the wild life around, bears present including on the road), the only thing to do all day long was to be in the spa and it's baffling for me, why would anyone drive many hours to stay there just for the spa. As a result, the spa was quite full sometimes, it was difficult to find a spot, massage was almost fully booked and spending time on the terrace for us wasn't an option. I think for us it was the last visit, during the present holiday we had way better experiences in the other places we stayed.…
I have visited with my friends this hotel in august. They don't offer coffee before 8 o clock. You are not allowed to take coffee from breakfast into lobby. The reception people refuse to book massages to their own spa,for the clients by phone! The client has to go in another building to book his own massage. After several failed trials to book by phone, as advised by the reception, I went to spa to book my massage and they just told me to wait until they finish their cleaning. ..Never happened to find such low respect for the clients.
We had a remarkable 3 days of hiking, beautiful scenery, excellent food, and some of the finest spa treatments ever. This was a trip for the record books, Im in love with this hotel and spa. A special thankyou to the manager Steve Latvan who was incredibly helpful for righting a small issue we expereinced. We highly reccomend the Balvanyos Resort and hotel-thank you for a most memorable holiday.
any reason is proper to go there, for a massage, a pool, a sauna are tired? are you nervous? are you happy? go there, but don't forget to book the spa procedures or areas you want, because usually is fully booked first book the massage and than book the room breakfast was reach enough, but you have to be patient, due to the pandemic rules the main restaurant is a nice option to eat, we tried many of their offers, all of them really tasty we spent three days there, on a rainy period, but it was so nice to stay in the warm pool outside, to drink some and of course the sauna, and again the pool, and again the sauna, and so on we had no time to go out of the hotel, the spa was our single activity and the food a place to come back, as soon as possible
Cons: old and rusty look outside, dirty room, missing pieces from the shower, dirty toilet, communist feeling on the balcony with a pretty decent view from the superior room (not enough for 120€/night), drinks in the mini bar weren't cold. Not enough information, unfriendly staff in the hotel. The king sized bed replaced with two single person beds sticked toghether with zip ties. Pros: quiet, decent view, clean towels and bedding, pretty looking spa area. Conclision: unworthy, amazing other places, for less money with breath-taking views and quality services.
