The Boucan Canot combines the authenticity of a 'Creole' residence with a modern comfort, a beautiful charming hotel where intimacy and discrete luxury hold the first roles. Today, four major assets characterize the hotel: an ideal situation, a typically local decoration, a top-of-the-range service and a refined gastronomy. A luxury resort on the beach, offering a unique panoramic sight on the ocean. A preserved natural site combined with a typically local architecture. A greenery treasure, anchored on a basalt spur, beat by the softness of the trade winds.

We were looking for a hotel close to the beach/seafront and Boucan Canot was one of the few we could find. Not sure what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is well located, with the beach a few meters away, the tide pool right next to the hotel and the pristine swimming pool. We have found Boucan Canot (the town) not as busy as the surroundings but still had a vibrant buzz with tourists. Good shops and restaurants in the vicinity. We however did find the restaurant somewhat expensive but still value for money ito quality of food. I can highly highly recommend the hotel. You well not be disappointed.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. The welcome has clearly improved: the staff are charming. The preferred rooms are located on the lagoon side: the view is splendid. Some might complain that the sound insulation of the French window is a little insufficient. Comfort of the room is quite adequate, cleaning is a little limited (quite a bit of dust underfoot...) and the bathroom is a little dreary with its shades tending towards brown. The wifi is really sluggish, probably to encourage guests not to spend their time working... Breakfast served in a restaurant room, currently being renovated, is very pleasant. The quality to price ratio is excellent. Don’t forget to reserve your parking space (difficult to park during the day) and don’t miss the Boucan table. You will appreciate the fresh water swimming pool and the sea water swimming pool which will console you for not being able to enjoy the ocean…

If you are looking to stay in a quiet calm clean and efficiently-run hotel, this will be perfect for you. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. My room was clean comfortable and spacious with a great sea balcony. The buffet breakfast is well-made with a good selection of dishes (though the machine coffee needs improving). A good and very efficient conciergerie service too who organised my hire car in very quick time. Except for a small strip of beach restaurants and bars (which all serve good food and drink) not much happens around the hotel, you need to drive out if you want to be doing and seeing things. But if you just want to relax it’s perfect. It has a nice pool and garden area and is right next to a section of beach that has life-guards and shark nets.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights.
Earlier, we stayed in another 4 star hotel south of the island.
It is by comparing with the other 4 star hotel that i'm writing this review.
In other locations, we 've stayed several times in 4 star hotels, the level at Réunion seems to be lower overall.
This particular hotel I'd rate it a 3 star as I experienced it now.

Anyway, this hotel let us down especially with the breakfast
We couldnt get a decent coffee for breakfast (this is a coffee that is not nescafé), we asked a couple of times but the staff didnt seem to understand our request.
Odd, because only 5 meters away, at the bar, one can get a very good "normal" coffee or latte for purchase.
Breakfast is basic although the omelets, made to order, are very good!

The dinner selection for half board was not always up to our taste, but there was flexibility from the staff in choosing from the normal menu, whether or not with a extra to pay.
We would personally not opt again for half board, because a few days we couldnt eat 3 courses and could instead have eaten a simpler meal nearby.
But if you like to fine dine "french cuisine" every day, half board would be your thing.
Drinks are relatively expensive here, again comparing to the other hotel.

Other than that, a general touch-up or cleaning would be nice.
Especially in these times, I would have preferred that for example outside tables would be cleaned more often and thorough.

The hotel is very nicely located, and this is what I liked most: the guarded swimming area and the natural pool.
The swimming pool is shallow, does not really allow for a sportive swim.

We made the best of the location close to the beach, but as said, we had better here at Réunion.

"Hello Madam, Hello Sir, we welcome you to the Boucan Canot hotel, thank you for trusting us with your vacation.
Did you have a good trip or a good drive despite the NRL changeover?, the hotel wasn't too difficult to find?
Make yourself comfortable and we will come and take care of you.”
Fortunately, dreams are allowed...
We would have liked to be welcomed like this but the reality was quite different.
"You will have to park in the car park outside the hotel as the car park is full for this evening and there is a charge of 10 euros per day..."
“We were not aware that it was full and paid for…”
"The restaurant is also full but you can eat nearby, check that the restaurant could accommodate you for a late service..."
“Is it up to us to do it?”
"Yes"
We sit comfortably and receive a visit from a second person who, without saying hello, gives us two glasses of juice whose composition we will never know...
We ask him what the costs are for canceling the stay, "100%"
On this we decide to stay despite our growing dissatisfaction.
We were told just afterwards that, exceptionally, we were entitled to a paid parking space of course!
We settle into the room... View of the sea but rather of the swimming pool and the sea through a parasol... The sea that we see dancing...
I inquired with the restaurant and managed to get a reservation for the last service. Alain you are so good!
Around 7 p.m. we asked for room service of a Creole board, we were told that it would be based on the availability of the servers... On returning to the room we witnessed an exchange between the server and the bar who underlined that this cannot be done... Seeing us the discourse changes. I ask to be served in my room.
Which is realized a little later...
From there, we were entitled to treatment commensurate with the price paid.
Because for 45 euros more, I would have preferred to take the road and go to the Palm where these kinds of wishes are not appropriate...
Is it because I'm a local? And as a result I must be treated as a sub-client?
The quality-price ratio is unfavorable at the Boucan Canot hotel compared to the Palm.
I should have gone to the Palm.
Now I know and will behave accordingly.
Never fold that!

Hotel ideally located on the beautiful beach of Boucan Canot to the west of the island. The view is magnificent, a big positive point of this hotel, this exceptional location.
Quite friendly welcome, and explanations given about the parking spaces, all already reserved. It will cost you €10 per day. Amazing for the Reunion! But there is free parking outside, so no worries. The swimming pool, breakfast and dinner times have been communicated and our Ocean View room has been confirmed. But once you arrive in your room and the curtain is drawn, the promised view is completely different. View facing a building marked abandoned, and enormous branches which “lets you imagine” an ocean view. The hotel being full, given the explanations given, we will just imagine the view. Although so disappointed, we did not take advantage of the terrace. A nice scam this room. 👎🏽
Nevertheless, the room is spacious, good bedding, nice bathroom, and great shower. Separate toilets.
Room clean in appearance, we quickly realized that the floor was dirty 👎🏽.
Nespresso coffee machine and 4 capsules offered on arrival. You will be charged €1 per additional capsule request.
For the rest, this hotel could be renovated in terms of the bay window frames, which are not aesthetically pleasing, especially when viewed from the swimming pool.
The swimming pool lacks depth, for a dip and possibly for children.
Positive point: the hearty breakfast, sweet (pastries, pancakes, fruit, yogurt) and savory with its Creole touch, corks, samosas, fried rice, ham and salmon etc. There's something to satisfy you. All this with a breathtaking view of the ocean 🌞.
For the evenings, just a few meters away, you will find something to eat, and frankly for the atmosphere and fun, it's really the best.

In the top :
- The "Creole" architecture of a historic place, with a perfectly successful renovation (especially the rooms, but not the restaurant).
- Beautiful location, superb view of the ocean (and its whales!!!) and very close to the ocean "swimming pool" and proximity to restaurants (within walking distance), efficient staff and private parking (admittedly for a fee, but a real plus given the parking difficulties in the surrounding area).

Can do better:
- The restaurant: Cold and impersonal atmosphere. A "canteen" side for breakfast (a real shame because there is an outdoor terrace with a superb view of the ocean), with tastelessly set tables (very "cheap" furniture, no placemat or floral decoration (or other), poor quality "advertising" paper napkins, chairs often soiled by birds (it's nature, we love it... but it's up to you to find the napkin or handkerchief to clean before you sit down! zero service for you help... and then you have to find the trash can to throw away the soiled tissue!), lack of welcome from the staff ("hello: what's your room number?). That's for the breakfast lunch... not even tested for dinner because it doesn't make you want it.
- The outdoor bar area (deck or lawn): More friendly service, but the same concern for cleanliness (all the sofas are extremely soiled).
- The swimming pool: Very pleasant space and very successful decor... but very limited number of places and above all you should know that it is more of a "swimming pool" than a swimming pool because the depth is not does not exceed 1 meter.
- The service/Reception: Overall, the service is rather efficient and polite, but "technical/commercial" and without warmth and often very impersonal.
- The rooms: Those with a side view of the ocean also have a view of an abandoned building... it's not the hotel's fault, but neither that of the customers who pay the price!

In short, very good hotel.... It really lacks few things to be perfect!

If you go for the normal room, you will surely have one facing the parking and the noise from the busy road passing very close to the hotel, so prepare your ear plugs. Moreover, as it was my case, you will maybe have a room for people with special needs, with almost zero furniture, even if you are not requesting something of this kind. If you are asking to change the room, the staff might even mocking at you. The hotel pool is a joke (very small, and 1.1 m deep), and the "natural pool" on the beach was not operational during our entire stay, due to water quality problems. If you decide to stay there I suggest you to go to the l'Ermitage Beach for swimming (10 minutes by car) and to have dinner on one of the restaurants on walking distance from the hotel. But even better, choose another place to stay...

Thank you for your comment. We are sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations. Regarding the room for people with reduced mobility that you booked in April, there were still many room categories available at that time. You chose the cheapest category, corresponding to the Standard Room. On our website, through which you made your reservation, it is clearly specified that this room is equipped for people with reduced mobility, has a montagne view (therefore no sea view) and that we have 2 rooms of this type. So what you call a "normal room" is not one. There are 32 "normal" rooms (excluding Suites) and, as specified in their name, they have a partial view of the lagoon or an ocean view. As you can see in the 900 other reviews on this page, our customers are very fond of the sea view, having chosen a room with the view they wanted. We advise you, in the future, to read the information on the rooms carefully before booking them. When you asked us to change rooms, we did not make fun of you, we told you that we were full and therefore had no possibility of changing. This was probably not what you wanted to hear, but unfortunately it was the reality. Regarding the swimming pool, we cannot enlarge or deepen it, because there are natural underwater caves sheltering protected species. As for the ban on swimming in the natural seawater pool, it is the municipality that makes these decisions, this pool belonging to the public domain and not to the hotel. We hope to have answered your remarks. Kind regards

This hotel should not rent the rooms located on the side because of the view of an abandoned hotel!!! This is very disappointing for a 4 star hotel!!!
Impossible to swim in the sea at this time (lots of swell) and on the only day when the sea is calmer the lifeguards do not install the anti-shark net.
Positive point: breakfast facing the sea with whales offshore (July-August whale breeding period in Reunion waters) and small restaurants within walking distance.
Tip: Take a sea view room in this hotel.

From bad surprise to bad surprise.

A noisy room, poor lamps, poor USB sockets, non-existent WiFi, a ridiculously sized safe.
When you pay €380 per room per day in a 4 star hotel you can expect much better,

Fortunately there is the staff, this is the very good rating of this hotel, helpful, attentive, kind and understanding.

The restaurant is very good, the dishes are sometimes even too copious, but can we really blame the chef for that, a very good mark also goes to our bartender, he makes great cocktails and he is super nice!
