WHY YOUR NEXT VACATION SHOULD BE WITH US. A vacation in Plantation Bay will be more prudent than in most resorts for the following reasons: A. Plantation Bay is a complete destination resort, where they can spend their entire holiday without ever going outside where they might be exposed at random to the virus. B. Plantation Bay is very spread out, and almost all its facilities are open-air. As now scientifically proven, most Covid-19 transmission occurs in close-contact indoor situations in which people stay close together for long periods. By its unique open-air design, Plantation Bay is inherently unconducive to catching Covid-19. There are no enclosed corridors and elevators where the virus may linger in the air up to 4 hours after someone coughed in that space, and we have vast lagoons and pools where people will not be tightly-packed. There are a lot of activities that guests can do inside the resort, so guests will not be tempted to go out where they might catch the virus in public markets or lower-end restaurants.

We went to this resort as a group/4 families or 15 pax total. My sister and her family already visited the resort 5x and really recommended it to us. Hence, we have a high expectation when it comes to service and of course the resort itself. At first we stayed in different rooms but after a day, we just decided to move to the Quantum Villa, since it can accomodate all of us in one place and it has some facilities that we can also use since we will ve celebrating my wifes birthday. So heres my take.... Here are the things that i think is exemplary: 1. Salt water lagoon/pool - its a bit difficult to find salt water pool in the Philippines, and since I get skin irritation in prolonged stay in a regular chlorinated pool, having a salt water pool is definitely a plus. 2. Architectural Design - I personally like the design of the "houses" and how they planned and placed the different lagoon. The buildings and houses reminded me of french colonial houses in New Orleans. Even inside the rooms are very simple and elegant. 3. Activities for kids - aside from their nice lagoons, we also enjoyed the archery and wall climbing. We were not able to play golf, but i think thats a good activity as well. By the way, theres no additional fee. 4. Quantum Villa - the overall looks of this villa for me is the best for our family. We have 7 kids that enjoyed the small pool and also did some board games at the pavillon. Things that I think the resort need to improve on... 1. Service - if i were to breakdown the ratings in to two categories, i will rate the RESORT 10 out of 5....and the SERVICE 2 out of 5. Here are some of our critical incidents.. A. Our kids were at the lagoon near the small slide, and its quite normal that kids will laugh and giggle because they are having fun. One of the parent was also present to oversee them. While all of a sudden a staff/lifeguard SUSH our kids. They are not NOISY at all. And what do you expect will be the reaction of a person who just used the slide? Just stay quiet? If the staff finds it "noisy", the more professional way was to talk to the parent. B. Since we ordered 2 cakes and several food in their resto for my wifes bday celebration, we requested for it to be delivered in our villa...but they said "Meron pong DELIVERY CHARGE". This is very disappointing considering Quantum Villa i think is their top tier suite, they shouldve just considered delivering it for free. C. Since we already ordered some birthday cakes, the mgt shouldve done some "extra mile" to make the guests happy. I cant help but compare their service to Shangrila Mactan, Shangrila Boracay, Crimson Boracay, etc...sobrang layo. We enjoyed the place because we find it so beautiful. We hope to see some improvement with your SERVICE and im sure this resort will be the best in the Philippines

Response from Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa
Responded yesterday
Dear vcvaldez, Thank you for choosing to celebrate your wife's birthday at Plantation Bay! We're happy you liked our architectural style and various child-friendly activities. We are one of the few hotels in the world that proactively protects guests' right to peace and quiet. With this in mind, we have strict rules against prolonged or repeated screaming precisely because this ruins the ambience for other guests. It also endangers all guests, because if lifeguards get desensitized to screaming or laughing, they may not respond to a genuine emergency. We have very extensive water areas, but so far, we have never had a serious injury or accidental death at Plantation Bay, and we intend to keep our perfect record. Because of Plantation Bay's sprawling 11.4-hectare grounds, we charge a minimum fee (P 300 for orders amounting to P 1,500 or 20% on orders over P 1,500) for room service, or most guests would have food delivered to their rooms. If it were just cakes, we would gladly deliver them to your room with compliments, but your order involved dishes, plates, and cutlery for 15 people. Thanks again for sharing your views. We wish you and your family all the best in your future travels! Sincerely, Cherry Allego General Manager

Truly a home away from home. ❤️ It is my 3rd time visiting since 2013, the resort has been through a lot considering the Covid-19 pandemic and the super typhoon Odette that has spared nothing in the island of Cebu. Despite that, the resort survived and the service is still like no other. Very polite and courteous staff. From the airport pick up, to going back home we were well taken cared of. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, privacy, and the rest we always get when we visit. Just got home and is already looking forward to going back! 😊

This was my second return visit to this wonderful and comfortable resort. Although it’s struggling to recover from the COVID crises and typhoon damage in December of 2021, the resort is gradually repairing or replacing all the cottage roofs. My room was much better than the one I had in 2016, particularly the new bathroom shower amenities which featured a “rain shower” and three other directional fountains, pointing toward higher and lower parts of the body. I never thought I could have so much fun in the shower! The beds were nice and comfy, but the resort should offer more firm pillows as mine were mushy. There was also a hot pot for boiling water but no Keurig machine…just Nescafé and tea options. The “Kilimanjaro restaurant served up an excellent breakfast with American and Filipino choices. My local Cebu guests really enjoyed themselves and we rode bikes and they did the climbing wall. We also loved the Fuji restaurant on the coast, sitting outside for one of our dinners. Another Filipino guest and I really enjoyed the wet pool bar and meeting new people as well as chatting with the friendly bartender. We also loved the game room with Pool, ping pong and fusbol options. Sadly, the game room closed at 5 pm each day…another victim of under -staffing. Oh, and in 2016 I got a wonderful massage at the spa…but not this year as I was too busy entertaining my friends from Butuan and Cebu City! I really love this place and will visit again, Lord-willing! It’s really worth the price and it’s literally an oasis on an island surrounded by roads crowded with motorbikes, tuk-tuks and dense city living. Although it’s a rough ride from the airport on roads strewn with humans and other obstacles, it’s worth it when you finally arrive at this oasis!

My husband and I decided to have our wedding at Plantation Bay Resort and we’re very happy we did! Plantation did well despite the hurricane they just went through. The staff were incredible. They were responsive, helpful and very accommodating. Very grateful to Ms. Olya Ramirez for being so accommodating and for making it easy for us to plan our wedding from the states. Me and my husband were pampered during our stay. Truly one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. Thank you Plantation for making our stay special and a memorable one. Also special thanks to Sir Archie who took us to the airport that day. Thank you for helping us pack our stuff Sir Archie! You’re awesome Sir!

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our romantic anniversary! The staffs are always friendly and have never had a bad experience. The full body massage at Mogambo Springs was excellent. The price is a bit higher than the usual but they offer discount and it was worth every peso considering the amenities of the spa and no tipping policy! :) If you're a couple, don't forget to avail their Romantic Rendezvous Package! They will arrange a romantic candlelight dinner with a dozen red roses for your partner. After the romantic dinner, it will be a sensual evening as they will prepare your room with a rose petal bath with scented candles, chocolates and a bottle of chilled wine! We enjoyed the free activities like billiards, archery and biking. If you love to cook, don't forget to avail Cook with the Chef Package! I would love to go back to plantation bay soon. I hope there will be a high chair at the Hurricane bar this time :)

Poor customer service, discriminating, selective treatment. Do not attempt as its deceiving! I have been trying to contact them to reserve but they seem so selective and only responsive when they feel like it.They are far from what you see on their adds and on their website. The lady from the reservation needs to have a refresher training.Ridiculously deceiving!

Worst Guest Services, From Booking, Quoting Guests " If You Don't Agree With Our Policy, You Are Better Off Staying In Other Hotels, They Will Appreciate Your Business More".... - Facilities Severely Damaged By Typhoon Early 2022, Acceptable Since We Were Advised Before Hand.. - This Is The Only Resort In The World Who Charges You Ice When You Call Room Service, And Delivery Charge When They Bring Food To Your Room... - Swim Wear Not Allowed In Their Restaurants, You Can Only Stay Out Doors To Order Food... which by the way served not so hot, tasted ordinary despite their off the roof price/s,, - Most Expensive Resort In Cebu, Worst Service Ever... Been To This Resort More Than 5 / 6 Times Already with family and friends, stayed at their most expensive rooms (Quantum Villa, Riverboat house) Never Again!!!!!!!!!

Response from Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa
Responded Jul 27, 2022
Dear TripAdvisor Reader, We confirm that this person has stayed in the resort several times, but we are at a loss to understand the violence of this review considering that they have stayed at Plantation Bay 5, now 6, times since 2011. During their recent stay, we never heard any complaints from them. If they were severely dissatisfied, they could have told us what was bothering them or they could have checked out early, as we freely permit our guests to do. (Unlike most other hotels, which will force you to stay.) Sincerely, Cherry Allego General Manager

Don’t be fooled like my family and I were by the Internet pictures of this resort. The resort is NOTHING like the pictures. It’s DECEIVING! We had to be moved to a different building after the 1st night due to an awful smell radiating throughout our room and had to listen to the major renovations and construction being conducted throughout the resort, which is contradictory to their mission of being a “tranquil and serene” resort. My husband spoke to the manager, Jasper, and he stated we were informed in our email confirmation that the resort was undergoing construction from the storm in December of 2021, which was a lie because I showed the confirmation we received that had no information about this. Also, we received a final confirmation the day we checked in and that did not have any information either. If we had known, we would not have flown to Cebu and stayed at this crappy resort! To make matters even worse, the major dive pool was drained and emptied for scrubbing, not usable and smelled horrible. The outdoor activities, like archery and fishing were a JOKE! I could have set up something better in my own backyard. Only the Kilimanjaro Kafe was open so we were forced to eat there 3 times a day and many food options were “unavailable!” The shops for goods, sundries and toiletries so we had to leave the resort for such items. The outdoor shops were closed so you couldn’t get any necessities onsite if needed. Only 25% of the amenities that they state they offer we’re available for their guests. There is no housekeeping services — dirty towels were left, trash cans were not emptied and beds were left unmade. Ants were crawling throughout the place, forcing us to use Baygone around the room. Also, there were construction workers onsite staring at my teenage daughter as she was swimming and trying to sunbathe. So we spent 3 days so far leaving the resort and spending the day sightseeing Cebu City. Don’t be fooled like my family was! This resort is not what it presents itself to be online. Management did absolutely NOTHING to make our stay better or to appease our issues. As such, I will not be recommending this place to any of my friends or family in the US, but will be discouraging them from doing so. SAVE your money and go to Boracay or Palawan where you’ll get way more for way less.

Response from Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa
Responded Jul 27, 2022
Dear TripAdvisor Reader, Plantation Bay is the only hotel in the world that will give you all your money back if, within 4 hours of check-in, you decide you don't like it, were misled by our website, or even if you just quarreled with your partner and now want to cancel your holiday. Repeat: the ONLY HOTEL IN THE WORLD. We are also one of the very few remaining hotels anywhere which will allow you to cut short your reserved stay without penalty, again, for any reason whatever. In fact, these guests stayed 5 days evidently happy to torture themselves with our terrible service and facilities even though for their own good, we suggested they might be happier in another hotel. We respond to all reasonable complaints. But when we realize that a guest is just making one unjustified complaint after another, we reason that the guest would be happier in another hotel; we can't force you to like us, but unlike most other hotels, we won't force you to undergo the "torture" of staying further. To such guests, we strongly suggest they move hotels; there are many fine hotels in Mactan that they might be happier at. BUT, notwithstanding this very liberal and generous policy of Plantation Bay, there are some guests who prefer the pleasure of complaining, then complaining some more, then writing a nasty review. We are sure most readers know people like this. Sincerely, Cherry Allego General Manager

We paid 1800 pesos each with additional 200 peso each for the snorkelling. We were surprised to not be offered towels. We asked the people at the snorkelling where to get them and they pointed in a general direction We asked again and again with pointed directions. Eventually we found them in the Gym but were told we would have to leave our passport before they would let us have them!!! The towels were well used and ropey Not exactly 5 star!

Absolutely beautiful place and really enjoyed my stay here. As I suspected, the resort sustained considerable damage from the typhoon and there is a lot of construction going on to repair the damage. As well, COVID has affected the operations of this resort like it has with other businesses. There was only one restaurant open at a time and they would alternate between only two of them. The staff here was excellent and Management was very accommodating. I have been to numerous resorts around Mactan and I have never been to a resort that has as many rules and restrictions as Plantation Bay. There is a long list of "What you can't do" along with a surcharge if any of these rules are broken. Example, if you bring outside food into the resort and you are seen eating it on the grounds or on your deck, they will charge 1500 pesos per person if they have to pick up the garbage. Absolutely Ridiculous amount of money to pick up a bag of garbage! I found the prices for food and activities here extremely high, almost o the point of price gouging so we ate out a lot. I really enjoyed my stay here but I will probably not come back. It is to high priced for me and I would be in fear of breaking one of the many rules and paying penalty fees. Great staff though and beautiful place.
