Overall relaxing stay. Despite the hectic schedule and workload we were doing in this trip the Shangri-la offered a bit of respite after a long busy day. Their 24/7 gym is a god send, we used it to grunt out the stress we accrued throughout our business day. The pool was nice and cool where we got to enjoy our weekend. The hot and cold jacuzzi together with the sauna and spa were well maintained. I like the rooms, big and spacious and not to forget, very clean! The breakfast selection was rich, from east to west it was there.

After having lunch at their Circle Buffet Restaurant, we head to the Lobby Lounge of the Hotel to wait for the husband of my niece. (My niece and her husband were staying in the hotel during that time.) When the husband of my niece arrived, we exchange pleasantries. Update each other of what happened to us since the last we met. In the middle of these pleasantries, a certain Gian Carlo Salvatierra approached our table asking if we are to order. We told him that we just had our lunch in Circle and we were just there for a while before heading off. After a few minutes, he went back and asked us again if we are to order because if we are not ordering, they were kind of full. It’s a subtle way of saying, please vacate the table to give way for other patrons. What a nerve to do that to us. We’ve been in different countries but Never we were treated the way he treated us. And to think, we are in the Philippines.

Makati Shangri-La is perfectly located for some of the great shopping that can be had in downtown Manila. Shopping centre after shopping centre is to be found only a moments walk from the hotel. Hotel had a nice bar with some good live music. Filipinos know now to sing! Good coffee shop on the lobby for meetings - although the business centre does have meeting rooms available for hire if you need somewhere more private.

We stayed in a club room, booked airport transfers, and generally went for the full treatment. Absolutely worth it, and not overly pricey (which is not to say "cheap"). I thought it superior to the nearby Fairmont, which would now be my number two in Manila. Highly recommended.

Overall the Makati Shangri-La is a beautiful hotel. However, the staff/service was average at best and the food + beverages were all incredibly overpriced. Pro's: very clean, great live music in the lobby, perfectly central location in Makati, very secure (bomb-sniffing dog, metal detector and bag xray checks at the front door). Con's: everything outside of the room was overpriced - the food, the drinks, the gift shop, airport shuttle, etc.
