I need to start by a preamble on who I am as a traveller before I give u my view on this experience...
I am a 38 year old who loves intense activity and hates to have a moment rest waiting for time to pass before the next activity... so that being said; read on.
Firstly the to and from the lodge was excellent and very refreshing because yes, it's hot, humid thus making the breeze refreshing. The staff took care to load your bag on and off the boat and give you a very warm welcome to their sanctuary.
The grounds exceptionally well kept and maintained despite the flooding of the place only a days ago.
The cabin and accommodations were very clean and I must say disregard any review saying otherwise as I think you have to remember you are in the jungle and it's obvious that you will find creepy crawlies, bugs and some dirt in your room. However none were found in cabin #2.
Now cabin #2 has an amazing view on the water which is bliss to wake up to!!!
The food: was amazing!!! Extremely well prepared, tasteful and respected one's dietary needs which in this case vegetarian.
Now... the activities on site ....
Day 1 pm: walk in the jungle learning about the trees and wild life. Alphonso was the guide and was extremely knowledgable and I felt I learnt a lot. We were lucky to see a many cute little squirrel monkeys which was the highlight of that afternoon.
TIP; tons of mosquitoes!!! This is not an understatement ... I also believe they are immune to insect repellant... now if you hate hot, humid and bugs DO NOT GO ON AN JUNGLE ADVENTURE!
Oh I was that hot that it seemed a brilliant idea that swimming in the Amazon river was a good idea! Well yeah until you realize how much mud is actually in that water! Alas, live once...
Day 2: canopy walk.... please don't think (like I did) you would be walking or climbing for miles at approx 150ft then zip lining down... it's not that.... it's a short walk up and then waiting for wild life to appear (whilst getting attacked by bugs). The construction of the platform is quite impressive and you feel very safe at all times. Sadly didn't see much this time but it's a luck of the draw:-)
Conservation tour was next.... i sadly have to say, wasn't my cup of tea seeing essentially a zoo. I can appreciate all the effort which goes into running this place but I felt it was a little too long and could
have been shortened by a lot. It's suggested for future, to check in with the clients to gage their interest level and then modify the walk if needed.
I by passed the mahogany tour as I felt I would have been bored as this kinda tour does not interest me and may for sure interest someone else... now if you by-pass an activity this is where the problem arises.... there isn't anything to do which was my problem as I am restless.... so waited for time to pass as I didn't bring a book, didn't want to drink or sleep...
The famous "raft" tour isn't a high speed down a crazy river experience. It's a tame rose as you float down the river to catch the sunset. So once you accept the ZERO adrenaline rush.... you can actually start to appreciate the beauty of it. So if you are travelling with a friend grab a bottle of wine for the journey down:-)))
Next Cayman spotting .... interesting concept and was lucky to have found a baby one.... and then a bonus giant mama guinea pig and her baby:-)
Comment on staff; FANTASTIC AND REALLY TRIED HARD TO PLEASE THIS MISERABLE TRAVELLER WHO WAS ONLY THINKING ABOUT RAINBOW MOUNTAIN;-)))
Thank you for a great experience whoever I believe this holiday is really suited for a traveller who is 1) older 2) able to chill 3) appreciates wildlife and vegetation 4) loves mosquitoes 5) and above all is prepared to be off the grid as THERE IS NO 3G or WIFI!

If you want a real experience of the jungle with helpful guides and good food this is the place!.
They pick you up from the airport and transport you around 45 minutes down river to the lodge.
The bungalows are right in the jungle, basic but with on suite facilities and are very clean - i did not see one insect inside! But are worth their wait in gold for falling a sleep and walking up to all the amazing jungle sounds.
You get 3 * 3 course meals a day, the food is of excellent quality and pretty tasty, mostly made from local ingredients they grow on the site. the portion sizes are pretty food, was not left hungry once.
The activities they organised are all incredible from walking though the jungle at night looking for spiders, to riding down the river looking for camen. all the way though sailing around an oxbow lake.
They even organised some night fishing for me.
Our Guide Monica was fantastic.
It is worth noting that there is no WIFI or Phone signal at the lodge, but that is a good thing really as it allows you soak up the jungle.
This part of the holiday defiantly rivals Machu Picchu, as my favourite part of Peru.

Stayed 4 days 3 nights here in mid-October – was really humid with barely any rain other than to look at in the distance! I thought initially that this really wasn’t be type of thing, but I loved it. The Lake Sandoval trip (a paid-for extra) was one of the highlights – I thought they were crazy getting us up to leave at 5.15am, but it was worth it for the sunrise and making the boat trip and first part of the walk in the coolest part of the day. The only disappointment was that we didn’t see an otter – but almost a good thing as it proved you were at the command of nature, which was a common theme throughout the trip, and the perfect antidote to work stresses.
Another highlight was the night-time caiman search by boat, not least to see the sky light up with all the stars, or the lightning storm in the distance. Incredible!
Other activities we did were an introductory rainforest walk, dinghy ride on the river, night-time rainforest walk, animal sanctuary (puma, jaguarundi and spider monkeys the highlights), bird watching, and canopy walk, which is steep to climb at the top but worth it. Thanks to our guide Livio!
One minor complaint would be that it would have perhaps been better if they’d have stuck to the planned itinerary from the website a bit more (we never made it to the farm or turtle beach, as we were led to believe from the website), and if we were given notice from the outset about the actual itinerary. We were often guessing what we’d do next.
Room was good, with a riverside view to ourselves, and monkeys, birds and butterflies for company just outside the room – and some grasshoppers and one cockroach inside – which somehow feel totally fine when you are staying in the rainforest! The bed was comfy and I slept better here than anywhere on the trip! Sitting on the sofa by candlelight as the sun set was a pleasure. The shower was as good as any other on the whole holiday.
Food was pretty good, with lots of variety which was important as it was full board. The communal space was a good sanctuary and created a social atmosphere helped by a wobbly pool table and bar with surprisingly decent Cuba libres, pisco sours, red wine and beer all sampled…
I’d really recommend here!

Let me start out by saying that the staff at Amazon Planet really seem to care about their ecolodge and the services they provide there. The ambitions are exceptional, but the execution was just OK...
When we arrived to the airport, we waited about 30 minutes for someone to pick us up - this felt particularly shabby in the midst of other happy tourists greeted by their smiling hosts with their names on signs. Once we were picked up, there was no acknowledgement of our waiting...I think even a brief apology would have ameliorated my poor first impression. (Apparently we were not the only ones this happened to - a British couple we met at the lodge had the same experience)
The lodge itself is charming and we found our bungalow to be lovely. As we booked the matrimonial suite, it had a beautiful view and appropriate mosquito netting considering the AMBUSH we would undergo over the next few days. Everything is close, but separate enough that you do not feel on top of the other tourists.
We met up with the 9 other people in our group (kind of large!) and our guide introduced himself. He was professional and well-informed throughout. My critique here was that there was no emphasis on our getting to know one another - between the language barriers of the guests and the scattered times of our arrivals, even by the end of our 4 days, very few of us knew everyone else's names...it would have been nice for our guide to facilitate that process a little.
Re. the food: I agree with the others that there needs to be more. Specifically more filling meals would be nice, especially for us vegetarians. For breakfast one day we had bread and pancakes - well, this is very tasty, but does not keep you satiated after several hours walking through the jungle. More protein, please - maybe eggs, lentils, beans, etc. Consider bringing your own snacks.
LOTS of bugs, but we expected that. Nice hammocks to rest in, and a bed we found to be quite nice. Bring comfortable shoes that are easy to get in and out of (they require you to take off your shoes when going into your room and the dining room). The canopy-walk, which we were quite looking forward to, felt rickety - we would have appreciated some warning about this and maybe some additional safety features or more stable footing.
All in all, interesting and memorable, but not at all luxurious. We did this only a day after completing the Inca Trail - maybe our timing could have been better. Reasonable pricing, and glad that much of the money paid seems to go to support their noble environmentally based projects. Also, very telling that their staff is so passionate about their mission.
Maybe it was not what we expected/were looking for, but surely is a great experience for many...just go informed!

Stop reading this, book this place and come back! It will be fine.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for the 4D/5N package in June. We booked directly with them.
We knew we were going to visit the PM area for a while, and researched and contacted many lodgings in the area. Some of the places we looked at were prohibitively expensive, so counted them out! The problem we had was finding out information on staying at these places, total price of staying, what is included etc. We didn't have that with Amazon Planet. Each time I contacted Sandra, I would recieve a reply the same or next day without fail. Considering we are in different time zones, that is great. Sandra always answered any questions I had, and always had tons of information for me. The booking process was so easy and we knew what was included in the price. Several other places we contacted simply didn't get back to us!
We were met at the airport by one of their drivers and a representative, who then took us to the main square to meet James, one of the co-owners I believe. James made us feel very welcome and gave me complete confidence we were going to have a great time. He also took us to a bar (our choice, we could have gone for ice cream) and bought us all a drink! Gave us a short history of the town, gave us some great advice, and took us to the port to get on our boat. I feel that James greeting us like this and making us feel so welcome, made the whole experience even better, knowing that he really cares about the guests and the whole project.
On arrival we were shown to our room, a riverfont lodge, if you can get one of these, do, they are amazing!
We did all of the activities as listed, although I opted to leave one as I wasn't feeling well (I came with a bug, nothing to do with the food!). Every single one was enjoyable, but one you simply cannot miss is the Sandoval Lake trip.
The Sandoval Lake trip was amazing, something I'll never forget. The only thing missing was David Attenborough giving a commentary, although that may be outside of the scope of Amazon Planet! We went early in the morning, before it got too hot, and saw an amazing array of wildlife. The otters were there, but as they are an endangered species our guide, Ronal (more about him below), rightfully, would not allow us to go too near them and disturb them. A pity for us, but this show how Amazon Planet really care about the environment around them. Everything they do shows this.
The lodges were so nice, just what we were looking for. As we had riverfront ones we could watch the bats feeding on insects at dusk, an added bonus. Although they were eco lodges you still had running water and hot showers.
The food was also amazing, and ample too. Not sure why a reviewer complained about not being fed enough, I think a 3 course dinner, 2 course lunch and 2 course breakfast is enough! It was all Peruvian influenced food an our guide, Ronal, explained what each dish was each time.
You would get electricity for a few hours a day, handy for charging camera batteries etc, which is all it is needed for.
Do not expect air conditioning, wifi, phone service or anything like that. If that's what you are after then you are looking in the wrong place, this is getting away from all of that, it is so nice being offline for a while and simply enjoying yourself.
We wanted to experience the Amazon Rainforest, and I feel that because we chose this place we really did.
Our guide, Ronal, made such a difference too. He is so knowledgable on the flora & fauna of the rainforest. He could answer any question we threw at him, and we asked a lot! He becomes your friend for the short time you are there, we eat together and spend the days together, and he makes the difference. I know I said that twice.
To wrap this up, this place is amazing, went beyond expectations. If we are ever in the area we will go back there, and we will never forget it.
I do recommend booking the 5D package to enjoy all it has to offer. short of that, make sure you stay long enough to experience Sandoval Lake.

Just love love loved out stay at Amazon Planet. Know in advance the accommodations are rustic, given the mission to be eco-friendly. Thus, toilet paper goes in waste bins. We consumed all the food we were given. Food was a delightful introduction to typical Peruvian cuisine, and Geraldine provided great service. The excursions were unbelievable. In our 3 days we took a farm tour, went for a jungle night walk and hunted for tarantulas, took a walk on a high canopy, which I found quite frightening but the view was incredible. I am not sure if it was just me but I was scared about that walk because the bridge was a bit shaky. We also took a boat at night to watch for Caimans. We only saw one, probably because of the full moon, but it was fun. We also had a very challenging mud walk (1.45 hrs each way in knee deep mud) then a canoe trip to a beautiful lake, where we saw a family of giant otters. I'd advise packing for all weather. It rained frequently and there were a lot of bugs. We borrowed the facilities boots. Also, clothes do not dry easily because of the humidity so some of our clothes never really dried. Our guide was top notch (Ronald). His descriptions were so helpful and the kids learned more than they ever could from a book. We loved visiting the Animal Sanctuary and were especially moved by Cholita, a bear who lost her hair from anxiety after some time with a Peruvian circus. She was so precious. This trip was a true gem.

Where to begin. This portion of our trip was by far our favourite and it definitely ranks in the top three from all the places I've been. I'll try and categorize my feedback otherwise I'll write an essay on how much I loved this place.
LOGISTICS
Getting picked up at the airport and taken to the lodge was absolutely seamless. A taxi driver waits with your name and drives you 10 minutes to the boat where your guide will meet you. Heading home was the same.
LODGE
The rooms are the cutest things I've ever seen. Definitely worth the money to pay for a river-view cabin. We had a small porch that was a meter away from the water and you could hear it trickling all night. We ordered the "Matrimonial" suite and they left us a bottle of red wine. We had hot water. The bed didn't have mosquito net on them when we arrived but we asked if we could have one and they put it up right away. I'm not sure we really needed it - the cabins are very well insulated and we only had one giant beetle (so cool!) and a few ants inside the whole time we were there. The lack of electricity was pretty freeing. Clean and comfortable.
The common room where you eat is also really great. It has a pool table, a bar and a comfortable seating area. You eat with others who are staying at Amazon Planet and it was a really great space to get to know the other travellers.
SCHEDULE
It seems like they go at their own pace here (you never feel rushed through the activities) but they actually have a master plan and everything times up seamlessly. We did the 3 night, 4 day program. I was worried it would feel too rushed but it was actually perfect. They would break up the activities by letting you have an hour or two in your lodge to rest (or shower) in between. Make sure you come ready for some pretty intense hikes - although I'm sure they customize based on needs. We went in February and I was a bit worried about weather given it's the rainy season. Yes, it rained a lot. No, it didn't matter or impact the quality of our trip at all. Still got a sunburn because the rain just comes and goes. Just come with a rain jacket and they provide the boots. Totally worth it.
FOOD
They should really talk about the quality of food they provide. It is seriously gourmet. Much of it is sourced on their farm - all of it is fresh, and all of it is delicious. They've done a good job developing a menu that is good for anyone not feeling well (rice, chicken, soups). The soups...oh man.. the soups. Best I've had in my entire life. For each meal they serve you an appetizer, then the entree, then a dessert. Much of it was traditional food eaten in the jungle. They had freshly made fruit juice every day as well. It was the best food I ate in Peru. Because of the level of activity each day I would recommend bringing some granola or fruit bars for in between meals. You can always buy snacks from the bar there too.
GUIDE & ACTIVITIES
Ronal was incredible. He certainly knows his stuff. He pointed things out we would have never noticed (like the Jaguar's paw prints out front of the lodge that had visited in the night!) He was very likeable and easy to get along with - and ate all of our meals with us. One of the main activities we did with him was a 10 km hike to and from an oxbow lake. Because it had rained a lot we were up to our shins in mud the entire way. It sounds daunting but it was hilarious and fun and a good workout. I bailed a few times. I kept hearing Macaws on this trek and I asked Ronal about it and he took us down off the trail through a small creek and we came upon an entire meeting group of probably 20 blue and yellow Macaws. It was the coolest experience of my life. We also did a night tour of the jungle, went caiman searching by boat at night, floated down the river at sunset, visited the organization's farm, and climbed the tallest tree platform in South America. I'm not usually scared of heights but this one got me, so look out.
Anyway, my point is, this place is amazing. Highly, highly, highly recommended!!!
My wife and I have just completed the 3D/2N stay at Amazon Planet. We couldn't have asked for more and our stay exceeded any expectations we had!
From the start we were met at the airport (definitely recommend flying from Cusco as others advised of a long uncomfortable bus ride), taken to lodge to await our boat up the river to the Amazon Jungle lodge.
On arrival lunch was ready for us and food throughout our stay was fantastic - no need for additional snacks!
Our days were filled with varied activities that kept us very entertained. There was also some nice time to relax around the lodge and bungalow during peak heat.
Our guide Ronal was very knowledgable and knew the answer to every question we had about wildlife and the jungle in general. We did jungle walks in the day with a long visit to the animal rescue centre. We then did a night jungle walk and Cayman (a type of crocodile) spotting in the evening. All very safe and very enjoyable. We saw lots of wildlife and some very rare snakes (viper and boa constrictor!)
Our trip ended with transfers back to the airport. For some crazy reason Star Peru stated our arrival time to Cusco on the flight itinerary and NOT the departure time from Puerto macdanaldo! Luckily James the owner knew the flight timetables and they took us to the airport early for our 11.20 flight (our itinerary said 12.30)!
James advised us that they have never had a report of malaria there and we stopped taking our tablets as they weren't making us feel good. If we returned we wouldn't worry about malaria tablets. The bungalows were extremely well bug proofed - just don't leave the lights on and doors open! Neither my wife nor I got a single mozzie bite which was extremely rare for us. We did have a frog in the bathroom which added to the rustic feel but otherwise the bungalow was lovely and quant. With the power going off at 10pm there was no fan so one night I had a wet towel on hand to lie under as it was very hot!
We had the best experience of the jungle and would highly recommend Amazon Planet. The education we received about the jungle and wildlife as well as the sustainability projects they are working on blew us away and we learnt so much during our short stay.
They have a bar on site for a sunset beer. Such a great place. Thanks for having us!!!

We had a wonderful stay here last week and part of the charm is that we were in a tiny group and really got to do what we wanted. There were so many fun ecologically based things to do-- and it's not a resort. We loved the rafting, swimming, canopy walk, rescue center, early morning and nighttime walks the kindness and generosity of the staff. We also had a river view room which was stunning. I did not miss not having electricity (except to charge my camera phone) and even then 5 hours is plenty. This place really gave my partner and I the chance to connect with our surroundings, learn a lot and not be around a lot of annoying tourists.

We went to Peru for 2 weeks and our trip to Amazon planet was the highlight of the holiday. Our guide Gustavo was amazing, he knew everything about the area and the wildlife. All the activities were really fun and the visit to the animal reserve was great because it ensures you will definitely see some wildlife! Food is decent and the lodges are great, beautiful view of the river.

If it wasn’t included in your booking then I’d say so but I can’t be sure, sorry
We were there in February and had a wonderful memory. People in Amazon Planet were very helpful and nice. They told us very honestly about the situation in the jungle for our consideration. As we went there while it was the rainy season, not many tourists there and so we had a peaceful time. Raining normally in the morning but still good, just well prepare your raincoat. Hope you could enjoy the moment as we did.:)
Hi,
There isn't an ATM at the lodge, but there are plenty in the main town, which you will get a chance to visit before you head off to Amazon Planet. They also allow you to run a tab and settle up when you get back to the town, although you may wish to keep some cash for a tip.
But you can get a tab opened at the lodge and then pay it when you get back to the office from the lodge - they can assist you in finding an ATM at the town there.
Hi, Amazon Planet is definately not in the town. It's approx 2 hours up the river by boat. We spotted monkeys and all sorts of wildlife right at the lodge.
I think you'd be very happy here as it is definately jungle. Hope you make it there!
