Detailed Reviews
We flew Sunwing and other than it being very crowded at that small airport in Rio Hoto all went well. Sunwing should update their info and photos on this resort as it is outdated. One out of the three rooms booked was already occupied by other people when the bell boy opened the door! He was as suprised to see other vacationer's belongings in that room as we were but didn't understand English (none of our maids spoke English either) so after a trip to front desk another room was assigned. It was nasty with the patio doors duct tapped shut and smelt really bad! The next day a nice room was given close to other family rooms (as requested). Not a good start but we all enjoyed a great vacation. A la carts were dinner at Italian and Sushi and lunch also served at the salt water pool but others were $. Food at buffet was good as was the service (salt & pepper shakers rare). Rooms and resort were kept clean enough. Exception was the large pool nearest beach and it's bathrooms. Not enough staff assigned to clean bathrooms behind swim up bar often enough! Pool was too large for just one pool vacuum and one staff every morning to clean effectively although they really did try and not enough clorine or bromine was put in that pool at night after closing to keep it clean. Our family's biggest concern was the amount of used plastic glasses (everywhere) at this resort. We and some guests brought our re-usable cups and glasses but the amount of discarded plastic glasses locals and others left behind was horrific. Perhaps resort could issue a souvenir re-usable glass at check-IN to every paying guest to take home afterwards so plastic waste would greatly decrease? Just an idea for managers and resort owners.

This was our first trip with my husband and we truly enjoyed ourselves. The staff at Playa Blanca make your stay even better. Although they spoke very little English, it was not that hard to communicate what we needed or ask any questions we had. They are all very friendly, polite, respectful, and helpful individuals. We stayed for a week and made a good connection with one of the bartenders at the pool, José. He is truly an amazing person that can make some good drinks and will keep your spirits up.
As for our room, we had the deluxe family room with two queen-size beds and a view looking out at the pool with the slides. We were able to control the AC, had a TV, WIFI (throughout the resort), a safe, a closet to hang clothes if needed, a mini-fridge and a clean bathroom. But our phone did not work for some reason so any questions we had to go to the front desk or ask one of the workers. Our towels would get replaced every day by the cleaning staff and they would ask if we were in our room if we would like our room cleaned which was quite nice.
For the pool area, they give you towels if you give them your towel card so they can keep track of the towels they provide and when you're done using it, they will give back your towel card. The pool is kept quite clean. Although, sometimes there will be some small leaves in the pool or sand at the bottom of the pool as you walk. They have slides that are quite fast when you go down them but are enjoyable. Unfortunately, the jacuzzi was not working when we were there but overall, their pools are just like the pictures that we shown and nice.
The food provided was breakfast, lunch and dinner at specific frames times of the day that they give you when you check-in and between them is when the snack bar is open which is usually nachos, hot dogs or a burger. They have a variety of food during the day and would change it up every day. They did have an Italian restaurant for dinner that included appetizers, main course and dessert. You had to book beforehand on the day of and was FREE.
They do provide unlimited alcohol and their entertainment is quite consistent throughout the day. They have some stretches in the pool during the day, a performance of the workers dancing and a talent show every night.
There are a variety of excursions available at the resort such as jetsking, ATVing, horseback riding, kayaking and many more. Also outside of the resort which is usually with a tour guide. Both do come with a cost in USD and vary for all. For the excursions at the resort, there is a pamphlet and outside, you can ask the front desk for help.
As for some feedback, the signs of the food at the buffet could include some English as we were not sure if a food dish was pork or beef. The cleanliness of the sand at the bottom of the pool could be improved. On the Sunwing website, the photos are outdated and need more photos to justify the great resort.
Overall, our trip was an 8/10 and thank you to the workers that made our stay enjoyable, and George from Sunwing who was a fantastic tour guide that was available whenever we needed him.

I went with my wife and Son to Playablanca this weekend, just wanted to say that it has really pleasantly surprised us. We last visited it over 2 years ago and it has really changed for the better. It was much cleaner, the service was excellent and we were really treated exceptionally well. Jhaniffer and Mr Faustino ensured that all our needs were met and listened and understood well all the points made to them. We stayed at the Townhall, had a beautiful view of the pool and although we did not use that pool, we went to the resort pool and beach everyday. There were a lot of people in there surprisingly. Also the food hall staff did a fantastic job, they sprayed and cleaned every table after every use, they complied with Covid regulations and ensured all wore masks everywhere. Apart from a few toilets that ran out of water and some sinks that were leaking, the resort had many hand sanitizer units and also provided masks in case one needed them. The entertainment was superb with Dances and performances by Janier and his teams. Janier is an excellent presenter plus Dancer and the dancers routines enlivened the stage. Chef David and his team Thomas, Julio, Linda and many others made us very good meals as we had special vegetarian needs, Gluten free and allergy free food, this made our trip worthwhile. The Teriyaki food was well prepared and presented and we really enjoyed that. Obviously in such a large organisation there is so much going on and there is always room for improvements, I am sure that perfection is something to aspire to and Playa Blanca Resort and Residences has been an enjoyable and relaxing experience, I certainly hope they can continue to maintain that level of cleanliness so that we may have many more such stays.

Level-set your expectations. This is not a 5-Star resort. If it was, you would have paid a lot more money to stay here. For the money we spent, we had a great time and it met our expectations. Only stay at the Town Center. We saw some of the other rooms by the Playa Blanca side and they were small and not nearly as nice. If you go to the buffet, look for Dina and Flora. They are the best servers we met. I looked forward to seeing them during my meals. If you stay in the Town Center, spend time at the lagoon. It is nicer and quieter than the pool sections by the buffet. The water is nice and there is a restaurant and bar right there. You can also exchange towels there. Try the Italian Restaurant. You will need to make reservations at 10am that day at by the Playa Blanca lobby. The staff work hard to make your stay enjoyable and really appreciate the generosity of a tip. I tipped the bar staff, waitresses/servers, and staff who cleaned our room every day. Tipping did not go unnoticed. The local language is Spanish. Most staff could speak a little English. I do not speak fluent Spanish but tried to speak a few sentences to everyone. Again, it was appreciated. Order a pizza by the Town Center Lobby bar. It is a nice change from the buffet. A medium pizza is $18. They have a pretty expansive menu too. Leave the property and go on excursions.
I would definitely return to Panama but I would travel to a different area to see what else this beautiful country has to offer.

My trip started March 9th with an Amazing warm Welcome. As Panama began to shut down along with the rest of the world. The hotel as well was forced due to Covid-19 to close Bars,Pools and Beach area to their guests and follow all safety protocols to keep everyone at minimal risk. That they did and I am so very impressed with all of their efforts! We cannot Thank all of the staff enough for all that they did to make sure the remainder of our stay was as enjoyable as possible. They were successful! We have been to the resort many times and the STAFF ARE THE REASON WE RETURN! They are our friends. Each and Everyone one of them are an asset to the hotel they make you feel like part of a family. Management,Dining staff, reception to Animation you all did an amazing job to make us feel safe and comfortable in this difficult time. Jehinner,Hector,Nemo and many more just to mention a few Thank you! We were very pleased to see improvements made to the hotel and now that it has closed they are taking this opportunity to make even more improvements and we will be very excited to see all that you have done. Come back even better and stronger then ever Playa Blanca Beach resort. We did not want to leave and we were very sad to go. We were not suppose to leave until March 23rd but The Panama Border was about to close. To all of our Playa Blanca Friends we will miss you. See you again next year. Stay safe and healthy.

A bit of a dated resort, Could use some maintenance upgrades. Only 7 minutes from the Rio HATO airport, Sun Wing and Air Transat are the only airlines that fly there. If you fly into Panama City it’s a 2 hour bus ride after a 5.5 hr flight, Clean rooms nothing special and always had gardening staff and cleaner’s out and about keeping grounds neat and tidy.
Small resort so not a busy place, except for weekends and about 250 rooms which has its advantages. One large buffet with an excellent and friendly staff to get you drinks. Food was good lots of chicken and pork. À la carte Italian restaurant was great.
Kids pool with slides and another large pool with swim up bar. Many locals frequent the hotel on the weekends. So there were lots of local kids at both pools. Outdoor Bar adjacent to the pool was opened late and served nachos and burger’s between 9:30 and 10:30 pm. Liquor selection is poor, Rum, Vodka and Gin no whiskey or Brandy. Entertainment was geared to the local kids, same show every night. And quite boring I might add.
Nice beach but it takes about 5 minutes to walk to the ocean. Hot hot hot. Several activities offered for a price to all the hotels along that stretch of beach. Horseback riding, skidoo, boat rides and friendly vendors along the beach. Not pushy folks I found the Panamanians friendly but not many spoke English. Spanish is their language in their country. We managed to communicate. Looking for an inexpensive trip this is it. $3100 per couple Looking for above average resort this is NOT for you. It is slightly below average, I would rate it a 3.0* out of 5*.

Please Please please If you are thinking of booking a family vacation here DO NOT. I do not know who rated this resort as a 4 star.....it's a 2 star at best. No one speaks English making it extremely difficult to communicate with staff. Buffet is a joke. 2 stations serving the exact same things. 2 restaurants are included byt the only one open seemed to be the Italian. There is a pay restaurant by the beach. Rooms are extremely outdated. When we first arrived we were put in the town centers. Moldy shower head, Moldy air conditioner vents, the TV did not shut off, safe was not working. Got moved to a new room. Shower leaks onto the floor near toilet. The safes batteries were being held in by duck tape. 3 times we had to call security up to have them open it. Wifi is spotty and if you have to call front desk for anything you have to use WhatsApp on your phone. Good luck with that when you cant connect half the time. Thursday through Tuesday the hotel is taken over by locals which makes lines really really long at the bars, buffets and finding a pool chair. Since none of the staff speak English and they cater to the locals all the night shows as well as kid shows are in Spanish. The only 2 staff that made this place somewhat bare able were Julio and Marytel at the front reception. They did their best to speak English and were the only kind and helpful staff at this resort. I was booked here through a mixup when reading the reviews on this place I tried to take it with a grain of salt. NO these people were telling the truth.

Reading all the reviews I got a little nervous coming here…I always looked at it as I have never been to Panama so I’ll make the best of it..
Check in was a breeze, not alot of people so it was quick and easy, One person spoke very little English but it was fine….we stayed in the Tower Centre overlooking the lagoon room 601 …was pleasantly surprised how clean the room was and the view was breathtaking…..walking to the main area where the pool, beach and restaurants are was maybe a 10 minute walk not really that far at all…Food in the buffet area was good, always had something different each night, we ate at the Italian and Seafood restaurant very good, especially the Italian one…first day by the pool thought I would have to get up at 730 to grab chairs that was not the case, people don’t start coming down til at least 8-8:30 a.m so no need to rush….not much action by the pool during the day only exercise that’s it, which is fine by me. Went to the lagoon, that somewhat was a disappointment, you need to go on other side of lagoon as the side closest to the Tower is for people that have purchased, but you can enter just further down the beach. Maintenance around the grounds, during the week have seen someone always picking up plates, cups, garbage left by locals…kept the grounds very clean…pool area was always clean, pool scrubbed and cleaned every morning…but do suggest they do a hard clean on the pool as it’s starting to show wear…went to do an excursion called Monkey Island, that was a lot of fun highly recommend. Night shows are all in Spanish makes it hard to understand but you get the just of it….ALOT of kids found out it was their summer break again no big deal….the only thing I wasn’t impressed by was the local Panama people come and overtake the resort on the weekends…makes it very crowded hard to find chairs….and buffet becomes a bit overcrowded at times….overall it was a great first time experience in Panama and am pleasantly surprised. Staff are very friendly that want to be, some, if they don’t speak English they will ignore you. But there are few of those…google Translate becomes your go to app 😊 side note if you are planning to do any excursions I would recommend you purchasing them on the plane as they are cheaper…We went to the beach, not really beach people but went to see and it was nice and clean.

I do not recommend it. As a connoisseur of the hotel industry, my experience is very bad, the customer service is bad (the bar staff is rude and lacks respect, they laugh at you instead of communicating what the bar rules are like, the snack people are super rude, the staff definitely needs more customer service. The rooms were super neglected (bathroom with mooh, dirty sink, dirty walls, TV that did not send a good signal, sheets in poor condition, safe or batteries and I had to call and go to the lobby because they were not going to attend to us Regarding the safe (then the security arrived and did not give us a solution), when we arrived the rooms only had 2 towels when the reservation said that 4 people would be accommodated, we were a family group where there were 6 rooms and each room had 4 pax and they only placed 2 towels per room. The dinner did not have variety and the waiters took more than half an hour to bring the drinks, the breakfast was varied and the lunch more or less. Facilities in their entirety in poor condition and the toilets in poor condition. The pool is not very good, the floor inside feels slippery. This Resorts is missing a lot. IM NOT COMING BACK ANYMORE.
