I booked this vacation through Elite Island Resorts from a certificate I won at a non profit auction. All of my expectations were exceeded! I cannot compliment the staff enough. Not just one but literally ALL of them! The resort is absolutely beautiful. The ground and maintenance crew work tirelessly to keep everything so beautiful. The cleaning ladies made everything spotless! The culinary staff was terrific. I have some odd food allergies and my daughter was vegan and they were kind to accommodate us and make/ change anything we asked them to. If you go away hungry it’s all on you. The excursions offered were all excellent and at all different skill levels. They can help you book everything you need and or call taxis at reception. If you are interested in anything in the area they are very knowledgeable and can help you, just ask. They suggested we go to the local market on Tuesday morning to shop local which we did and loved. Many hand crafted items to purchase. There was also live music at a local bar on Thursday evening. We did not go but were grateful they let us know about it. The hotel provides most of the transportation to your excursions. Make sure to ask how it will work if they order you a taxi how you will get back. If you have to take a taxi depending on how many are in your party and where you are it’s from $4-8 one way. Depending on the tour you can chose to do more than one a day. Some are included in the price, others extra. I suggest do as many as you can. I also suggest trying to plan your time out. Some excursions aren’t offered on every day. You don’t need to plan in advance but it was helpful for us because there were a few things we had to change because of availability. The spa is interesting. They only have people there on certain days and certain times. If this is your main reason or highlight of the trip plan this as soon as you get there. I did not use but my daughter and SIL did and it was a bit messy to schedule, I highly recommend the 4x4 trip to the top of the volcano. It is a rough ride (rough is an understatement but not sure exactly how to describe) but the top is so worth it. If you get motion sick this is not the excursion for you. This is an extra cost and I highly suggest paying in cash (they accept USD). We did a coffee, tea, bee, and rum tour. All extremely educational. We did the panoramic tour by bus and loved seeing the countryside and learning more about Boquete. Another couple did this by ATV and said it was amazing! My daughter and SIL went white water rafting and loved every minute of it! We also did the birding hike (which is the exact same trail as the Pipeline hike just not as long) and saw a baby sloth. This is what I would call a easy to moderate hike. Some people staying at the resort had a harder time. There are loose rocks and it is a slight incline. My daughter and friend did the Lost Waterfalls trails. Said it was amazing but difficult. They suggest for only experienced hikers. And some points there are ropes to help you get up and down. My friends legs hurt the entire rest of the trip. There is the ability to have Wi-Fi in certain buildings and your room. There is a local cell phone carrier if you need cell service. The local language is Spanish but most speak English or understand English. I highly recommend knowing at least your numbers and money before trying to get a taxi. In case you are wondering because I was worried before we went the water is safe to drink in Boquete. You are in a cloud forest so be sure to pack a raincoat or umbrella. The resort has umbrellas but if you leave or do an excursion you will need your own. That being said you also need sunscreen. It gets very warm when the sun is out, There is no air conditioning at the resort. They have windows and a ceiling fan. It was humid and moist but not uncomfortable.if you do a wet excursion they do have laundry services for a small fee to wash and dry your clothes. All in all this trip was amazing!

Property's Favorite Review
Like many, I won a certificate in a fundraiser and wasn't quite sure what to expect. From the moment I was contacted by Travis who answered all of my questions and was a pleasure to work with in getting everything booked to the moment we got to the airport to come back home, I can honestly say it was one of the best travel experiences my husband and I have ever had. Los Establos itself is just absolutely stunning and beautiful. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and the view of the mountains and volcano are gorgeous. There is a heated pool and hot tub. We upgraded to the premium suite which was an extra 50.00 a night. It's in a separate building with amazing views! It was a beautiful room with a king bed, living room, a huge walk-in shower and balcony. The bath towels were the softest we've ever had...they were awesome!!!! There are only 17 rooms between three buildings so it is a very quaint and cozy place where you got very personalized attention There were only a few other guests staying during the week we were there, so we literally had the whole place to ourselves!!!! The staff is absolutely amazing!!! Layla and Josefina at the front desk will help you book all of your excursions which are also included in your stay. They will go above and beyond to make you feel at home and make your stay perfect. Jean Paul and Franklin are so friendly to talk to in the restaurant and happy hour. The service they provide is absolutely outstanding! Jean Paul makes the best margarita....trust me!!! Everyone from housekeeping to the groundskeeper will say hello and make you feel special. There are excursions included every day you can choose from. We did the Panorama tour, coffee plantation tour, hot springs, Ziplining, rum tasting and the spa massages. There is plenty of other tours to choose from like hikes and drives to the volcano and white water rafting. There is something for everyone to do! The spa services were spectacular! There is a 30-min massage included but you can also get other services you pay for. I got a facial and it was the best one I've ever had! She did a great job. You get three meals a day included as well as happy hour from 4-6. There is a separate restaurant building on the grounds. The menu for breakfast and lunch is the same with plenty of options to choose from and the dinner menu changes nightly. Everything was delicious!! We did not have a bad meal here. Everything was top quality and made to order. It made it hard to go out to town to explore different places because the food was so good!!!! There is also a kitchen and living room in the main building where you can get beer, wine, soda, water, coffee and tea 24 hours a day. There is a refrigerator and microwave for your own food if you want. During happy hour from 4-6 you can also get mixed drinks made for you! You are a short taxi ride to town with plenty of restaurants and shops. To get a cab to go anywhere in town from the resort it was $5.00. If you just hail down cab in town to head back on your own it was only $3.00. This was definitely an out-of-the-box trip for us. It was so different than our usual beach vacation, but I can honestly say it was one of the best trips we've taken. I cannot say enough great things about Los Establos!!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. If you have a certificate from Elite Island vacations that you have won, definitely do not be afraid to use it here!!!!! You will love it!!!! Just a few minor observations/suggestions that are in NO way a criticism!!! The shower in our room took a few minutes to heat up. Turn it on and then wait a few minutes(literally) for the water to heat up...it will! Having some hooks in the bathroom to hang up towels, etc. would be helpful. When we first checked in we weren't told about the key for the safe. You don't need a 4-digit code. It's a little key attached to your room key that locks/unlocks the safe. I accidentally set off the safe alarm by trying to set a code! It would be helpful if there was a little description added to the list of tours in terms of what they include, clothing recommended for each like if you need a bathing suit, jacket etc. just so you have an idea of what each tour is about. Since it rains a lot even though there were umbrellas in the main house by reception to use and the housekeeping staff was kind enough to give me hers one day, having an umbrella in each room would be a nice touch for guests like me who forgot to bring one!

Congratulations on winning your charity auction trip - and it's a trip you should take! Here's what you need to know: 1) While you just made a nice donation, you don't really have a free trip. What the charity auction has done has put this beautiful, undiscovered location on your radar. You will pay a daily "all-inclusive" fee in lieu of paying for a reservation. 2) Getting there: We flew from the US to Panama city. In Panama city you clear customs, exit terminal 1 and take a bus to terminal 2. When facing terminal 2 don't go into the main terminal. Go very far to the right and you'll see a 1-gate domestic terminal for your flight to Boquete. There are no restaurants or stores in that domestic terminal, so plan accordingly. After a 1 hour flight you'll arrive in the tiny Boquete airport where the hotel will meet you and drive you 1 hour to the resort. 3) The hotel: The hotel is nice and comfortable, albeit somewhat basic. There is a heated pool and hot tub, a pickleball court, corn hole and games. 4) Food and Beverage: All meals are included and they are good. There is a mix of western food and Panamanian specials. If you are a big eater you may find the portions on the small side, but you can ask for extra or order multiple entrees. If you're staying for a week I'd suggest going out in town (a 5 minute, $5 cab away for a change of pace). Local beer and wine is available at all times and cocktails are severed during happy hour from 4-6. Buy a bottle of your favorite spirts or craft beer in town if you don't want to be dependent on happy hour. There are no snacks, so I'd suggest getting some in town. 5) Excursions: These are the highlight of the trip! You'll want to do at least 1 per day, most of which are included. The hotel doesn't offer great information on these so research online ahead of time so you know what you want to do. With many excurions you will first go into town and then meetup with a larger group. We did (ranked in priority order): - White Water Rafting: Our best excursion with beautiful scenery and just the right level of challenge. Note that it's a 2 hour drive each way with forest bathrooms. - Honey Bee Farm: Not included but an amazing tour of a honey bee farm with a honey tasting. - Zip lining: Fun an scenic zip lining. While really fun it was logistically complex. You take a cab into town. Then wait, then take a bus to the activity center. Then after zip lining you wait an hour to take the bus back to town and then cab back to hotel. There is a restaurant to have a drink while you wait. It ends up being 5 hours out of the hotel for a 90 minute activity. The activity center does have other stuff (hike, rum tasting, etc. In hindsight it may have been worth spending the day there and doing several activities. - E-bike food tour. Not included, but a several hour e-bike tour in and around town. The guide was just ok, but a really fun way to see the town and try a bunch of things. - Birding: A nice hike where we saw a the famous quetzal, a sloth and many other birds. Great guide! - 4x4 up volcano: A 4am wakeup to take a slow 4x4 journey to see sunrise at the top of the volcano. Hard work for an amazing view. - Mini canyon: You go and jump off a 20 food cliff into a canyon. A few minutes of fun that would be a good stop on the way somewhere but isn't worthy of being a destination. 6) Service: The hotel has 3 star service. The staff are friendly and try hard, but they just don't excel in this area. You will always be asking for things (more water, more pool towels, info on excursions, etc). Don't be shy on asking. Note: We didn't rent a car, but i would research it if going again. It would make getting to some of the excursions and going into town easier. We travelled with with a group of 6 people and this trip is great for groups. Enjoy the adventure!

My wife and I went with my parents and brother/sister-in-law. It's hard to say enough about how much we all enjoyed the time we spent at Los Establos. Here is a breakdown of all we can think of. 1. Facility. Top Notch. About 1 5-minute taxi ride outside Boquete, the facility is very well located. Taxi's are $3-5 and very easy to find. The hotel itself sits on the side of the mountain with beautiful grounds and views of the volcano. They only a have a few guests at a time an it seems everyone becomes quick friends in the friendly environment of the resort. The rooms are well appointed, though if I have nay complaint at all, its that the beds are not the most comfortable. The food is excellent (MUCH better than I ever expected), and plentiful. 2. Staff. Without exception they are awesome! It's a small group that you will become friends with by day two. They know your name and they know your happy hour drinks! If you have any issues with travel, they know all the answers as well. Everyone is treated like a VIP with their own concierge. 3. Outings. We did the Zip Line, Cloud Forest bridges, honey tasting, coffee tasting, horseback riding and massage. All absolutely worth doing. 4. Boquete. Quaint little town. Good restaurants and shops. People are nice and feels very safe. We spent a few afternoons there and enjoyed it very much. Recommendations. Come hungry. They have three great meals a day. However plan to spend time eating. It's very "European", dinner takes two hours. But for us it was great family time! Bring an extra pillow if you have a bad neck. Plan your excursions a day out and don't be afraid of two per day. They are the perfect length. Bring hiking shows. Many excursions require SOME up hill walking. You don't need bug spray, but you do need sunscreen. The weather is perfect day and night, but the sun is deceiving in its intensity. Do both the honey tasting and coffee tasting (I didn't want to do either and love them both). Do the horseback ride! My wife and are very experienced riders. My father/brother are not. They had horses for all levels and the locations of the rides are AMAZING.

What an incredible experience!! I’ve never stayed at a boutique hotel before, so I wasn’t expecting to be treated like a VIP. There are only 17 rooms, so the staff gets to know each guest personally, so you feel at home during your stay. Josephina and Carla at the front desk arrange all of your excursions and transportation, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy your vacation. Mario, John Paul, and Elias made sure we were never thirsty or hungry. the food was amazing! We went on excursions every day, and had so much fun and excitement while learning the local culture. We loved every excursion, but my favorites were the hanging bridges and zip line because you get amazing views of the jungle / cloud forest. The coffee plantation tour was very interesting, and the tour guide was excellent. My only complaint is that there are more things to do than we had days there. I guess we’ll have to return for more.

When we got to David, the shuttle driver we arranged was waiting for us with a sign that said Los Establos. It was $25 per person one way. One of the people we met at the resort said that their driver was very chatty and pointed out things of interest along the way. Our driver didn’t say a word, but he got us to where we needed to go, so no complaints. When we arrived, Elias greeted us and took us to our rooms. We booked two coffee cottages, but there was an issue with one of them, so we got an upgrade to a premium suite on the room I got. The coffee cottage was in the main building and the suite was a very short walk away. I would absolutely pay the extra and stay in the premium suite again! It was great, and I loved the volcano view from the balcony. I thought my friend’s coffee cottage was a little dark. It also didn’t have a coffee maker like it was supposed to have. I slept well until about 530 when the birds and rooster got going, so bring ear plugs! It was time for happy hour and then dinner by the time we arrived. We did that every night and enjoyed getting to know the other guests and sharing experiences about what we did. Every night there were a couple specialty cocktails and you could also get basic cocktails, wine, and beer. They grow their own coffee that you can buy to take home. It only comes ground though. They had bottled water, soda, beer, and wine out 24/7. They had games to play and after dinner we watched movies on the big TV in that area. It’s in general pretty quiet at night. The meals were very good. The breakfast and lunch menus didn’t change except each day they had a different Panamanian special. What they described as flour tortillas were actually like fry bread and really yummy. They didn’t advertise mimosas at breakfast, but we were able to get them. Dinner varied a little bit more and it was my favorite meal. The grounds were so beautiful and filled with flowers and amazing views. There’s also a cute little greenhouse. I could’ve spent most of my time just sitting outside with a book. I enjoyed the pool area, but the pool was on the warm side, so it wasn’t as refreshing as I’d have liked. There was pickle ball, ping pong, and corn hole for outside activities. A couple people at the resort got pretty burned, so don’t underestimate the sun even if it’s not that hot. There were birders at the resort and they said there was a lot of activity. All of the staff there were great and very friendly. Everyone you pass by says hello. I had a massage scheduled for 2, but a little after 1 was told that the massage therapist needed to reschedule to 4. That definitely messed up the day as we probably would’ve gone into town if we had known earlier. Ended up just having to hang out for a couple of hours and wait. One of our other tours was rescheduled which has nothing to do with the resort, but we didn’t find out about it until we were passing through the lobby after dinner about 730 and were told that our tour the next day had changed. I’m not sure how we would’ve found out if we hadn’t walked through the lobby. Maybe they should take peoples’ phone numbers and text them when things like that happen so you can make your plans. One of the tours we did was the volcano 4x4. I give you some information about that below, but one thing that’s important to note is that you end up paying for the full price of the tour directly with the tour operator, so make sure you bring a credit card. It wasn’t clear when we booked it and we had to follow up, but that does not count towards one of your daily activities, and you can take another free activity. This is a very early pickup, but they had coffee ready for us. You don’t book your activities until you arrive. I think having descriptions of the tours on the handout would be helpful. And even on the website to tell you what to bring. I would’ve brought a heavier jacket if I knew the volcano was cold. I would also like to know the name of the companies doing tours so I could look up reviews v One thing we didn’t discover until the last day was that they’ll let you preorder breakfast if you have an early tour or pack a lunch for you if you’ll be out all day. That would have been helpful to know earlier. I’m not sure what time someone gets to the front desk, but on our last day, we had a 7am pickup time and there were a lot of people waiting for tours and there was no one working. It was a busy time that seems like would be nice to have someone at the front. Our driver was 15 min late and we weren’t sure how to call and check on it with no one there. Tips not related to the hotel specifically: We had a rough start to the trip, so hopefully our experience will make it easier for you. We flew from the US to Panama City and when we landed, we had no idea how to get to our gate for David because the monitor just said Dom and no other gate info. We ended up missing our flight….arrgh! You have to go down an escalator and exit the international terminal through customs. Then it’s a walk outside to the domestic terminal that doesn’t open until a couple of hours before your flight. There are no restaurants in the domestic terminal. The volcano (provider Adventure Cruisers) has a pick up as early as 345 am, so we had to be ready in the lobby then, but they didn’t pick us up until 415. It is an incredibly bumpy ride for about an hour and a half. It’s also chilly up there, so bring something warm. The views are beautiful though. There is a 5 to 10 minute walk up some steep and rocky areas if you want to see the best parts, but you could stay down below if you wanted to. They served some breakfast, which was grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, fruit, and little muffins. There are women’s restrooms there, but none for the men. We did the pipeline hike, which was described as the easiest, but it was hot and humid in the rainforest, so, although it might be the easiest, we didn’t necessarily think it was easy. It took us a couple of hours round-trip. It probably also depends on your guide. I heard someone describe it as stopping every five minutes to look at plants and hearing from your guide, but that was not our experience. Our guide walked pretty fast the whole way with some occasional commentary. We also did the panoramic tour (the provider was Beyond Adventure) which was probably our favorite. Rolando was our guide and he was the best. It was nice to drive around and hear more about the area. We were there during the Boquete Jazz Festival in March, so that’s another option if you are there during that time. We also went to the fairgrounds where they hold the flower festival every January. It was only a dollar or two to get in and there were a lot of pretty displays. A couple of the favorite activities from the other guests were zip lining and the island tour.

I found Elite Island Resorts a few years back and have stayed at several of their properties and have loved each one. I, like others, won a certificate to stay at Los Establos. When I booked the trip I had no expectations regarding my visit to Panama. I just returned home with such amazing memories. You may ask why I did not give a score a five and that is very specific to my trip which I will get to. The hotel is just lovely. The rooms spotless. The food was so good!!! The staff, in general, were so attentive and accommodating. They took the time to answer our questions. I walked away feeling that in general they really cared to make our visit the best! A shout out to John Paul and Elias at the hotel and Gill and William (cab drivers) who went the extra mile for us! Daily happy hour takes place between 4-6pm. We just loved it. It allowed us to get to know the other guests and share experiences not only in Panama but other destinations. Also if you just want to sit alone and have a drink and take in the beautiful view of Baru guests respect that. My travel buddy would describe our time at Los Establos as a Trip not a vacation as we were up every day very early to take in all the daily excursions. We would highly recommend the island tour, volcano, hanging bridges, panoramic tour, rum tasting (try the geisha rum), coffee tour and bird watching (saw the questal and howler monkeys). I recommend going to town as there is so much to do and try. Cab rides are typically $5-$7 USD one way. If up for a nice walk it can be done. Why the four stars vs five? The regular concierge person was out for personal reasons and the person filling in for them did not exude confidence to us. They need additional training. Every activity we signed up for except one was rescheduled on us. We also asked this person to make a dinner reservation. They never confirmed it and when I asked to reschedule it as we were still on the island tour we were told the restaurant was closed for the day….. so how did they make the reservation in the first place. Once the regular coverage came back and John Paul stepped in to help us all seemed to fall in place again. The other thing is when the gardeners were there they left a machete on the path to breakfast and I stepped on it. Thankfully nothing happened but…. Overall a lovely trip with amazing memories. When you see the certificate at an auction grab it!

We spent a week at Los Establos, and it is a perfect place from which to explore western Panama. First of all, it would be a perfect place to do absolutely nothing; the staff couldn't be more attentive, the food is fresh and delicious, the rooms are comfortable, and the view of Baru Volcano is mesmerizing. Nevertheless, we ventured off of the property, and loved nearly everything we did. White water rafting near the Costa Rica border, the tour of Don Pepe coffee estates, and the island tour were all amazing, as was our hike in the cloud forest over the hanging bridges, our climb to the Lost Waterfalls, and our visit to the weekly market in Boquete - only on Tuesday mornings. (on the down side, would have been glad to skip the Hot Springs, which compared to these other excursions was like dropping into a sad puddle in someone's backyard). The staff is fantastic. We especially appreciated John Paul, Carla, Jane, Elias and Mario. I would return in a heartbeat.

It is one of those places that photos and words don't do it justice...the experience exceeded all expectations. What truly makes the experience unique are the wonderful staff - the overall vibe is pure beauty. If you have the opportunity to go, do not hesitate. From the moment you arrive the staff are wonderful...the excursions are fantastic..the food was good (I am a vegetarian and had no issues - food for all including the meat eaters in our group). We stayed in the cottages and had plenty of space including a private patio. We were there for 6 nights..and did the coffee tour, island tour, white water rapids, waterfall hike, hanging bridges and hot springs. The only one we did not love was the hot springs..but all the others were amazing. The hanging bridges was a moderate hike but the lost water fall tour was an extreme hike that last hours. The tour guides were lovely. But i can not say enough about the staff at Los Establos. Kudos to the owner at picking wonderful folks..and cultivating a community where you can feel they enjoy where they work. Jean Paul was wonderful giving advice for tours and made me a coffee drinker with his wonderful cappuccinos (and BEST gin and tonic!) Carla was incredibly patient, sweet, helpful and wonderful to work with - a true gem! And the list goes on - Elias - warm and welcoming..to Mario..new and incredibly accommodating and fantastic bartender mixing up cocktails last minute for us as we arrived late from our excursions. Leaving there felt like we were leaving friends. I hope to return some day and my paths cross again with these wonderful people!!

Located in the hills of Boquete, Los Establos Boutique Inn does not disappoint. What makes the place so special are the views, vegetation, food, and staff. As someone who is gluten intolerant, I was pampered by the restaurant staff during a four-day stay. They went out of their way to make incredibly delicious gluten free bread and desserts for me. I was beyond grateful for their care and attention and even left with a hand-written recipe from their amazing pastry chef. The activities are also great. We did two hikes with superb guides, saw the magnificent quetzal bird while hiking, and went to the top of the volcano. We loved the coffee plantation tour as well. I'd go back next week if I could. Thank you to everyone at Los Establos. I miss you!
