Salalah in August is very high season, strangely the humid and rainy climate attracts Omanis to Dhofar. I say strangely because we Italians would run away from a climate like this.
But it's worth going, if only to see the Omanis picnicking on the wet grass in the rain.
Since we don't have to stay there for more than a day (unlike the Omanis who spend their entire holidays there), we took a hotel in the city, which among other things is also close to the airport if you need it.
This large and anonymous hotel is perfect for a short stay, but if I were to spend a longer period I would look for something more scenic.

If you are looking for a good breakfast and paying higher than compared to other hotels around then don't chose this one. Break fast has no variations and no options. Less quantity as well and not happy to serve you more.and good variety. We booked for that but were disappointed.Food manager absolutely not flexible .
No Indian TV channels, not even 1. So no TV to be realistic if you are interested for Indian channels. 1 TV not working out of the 2.
Hotel Location is good, swimming pool, snooker, tennis , table tennis available. Timely room service. Nearby Lulu and Carrefour.Rooms are spacious. No microwave in rooms.

Booked the hotel due to its cheap price and the awesome pool it claimed to have. I didn’t get to use the pool. Checked into the room and it was dingy and dated and had this old carpet smell. The bathroom had fungus in the shower, I immediately complained and was put in a vip room which at least did not have fungee. I spent the night and booked another hotel. On check out there was no one at the reception desk for three hours. However, the front desk staff were very apologetic and polite and the bell boy was extremely helpful, resourceful and proactive.

The hotel is situated close to the city, beach and airport. Local trips would be to the UNESCO heritage site, frankincense centre and the tomb of the prophet Job. The rooms are a generous size, the double beds are also large and comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities and mini bar are in each room . The air conditioning is efficient. There is a pretty out door swimming pool that has listed swimming times. Staff are friendly and very helpful, a credit to the management.

May be we liked it more because we had low expectations after reading the reviews. There was no room to complain. Clean property, friendly staff, super fast wifi in the room, cosy bed linen, comfy bed and pillows, well appointed bathroom.
I can't say if all this is limited to the renovated third floor where we were staying.
General ambience was rather depressing, adding to which was the house keeping trolley permanently parked outside our room, with the collected waste.
Location is close to super markets and restaurants.

I and my friends decided to stay in hamdan plaza hotel as it was close to the airport in the heart of the city. but our experience was terrible.the receptionist was too slow during the check in - took 15 to 20 minutes to hand over the room keys as she could not speak or understand english. the bell boy was not very pleased to see us. the room was good. the tv did not work properly. we made many complaints for the tv but no one was interested to listen to us. the restaurant was on the fifth floor and very shabby. some of the staff were unhygienic it seems they have not changed their clothes for a long time. the menus were in a bad shape and smelling of food. we ordered for food in the rooms which took almost 60 minutes.the food quality was bad - chicken and beef were not cooked properly. the chef was also very rude.he could not understand what we wanted and insisted that the food is made in this way only. the swimming pool was big but very dirty. the wi-fi in the hotel was good. the location of the hotel is good as it is a stone throw away from shopping malls. we wanted to go for sight seeing but the hotel staff were not helpful. finally through the help of one friend we got someone to take us for sightseeing. we tried to contact the manager of the hotel to complaint regarding the services but the staff said he has left the hotel.
our stay in hamdan plaza hotel was terrible bad management, bad services - must be avoided. we would not recommend this hotel to anyone. we will tell our travel agent not to send anyone to this hotel.

I don't know where to start from ... The hotel is around 30 years old Very old furniture in the lobby There is an escalator in the lobby that does not work. The staff is unfriendly and uncooperative. They seem as they have been forced to serve the customers. The elevator is very small. The rooms are having very old furniture. Old televisions instead of new LCD TV channels are very few and those few also do not work properly. The room lacks amenities. Wifi was the only plus point. Bathroom is too small without a bathtub. No phone in the bathroom. No direct dialing from the room. The restaurant is hopeless and the food is pathetic. The hotel says 24 hours room service but in reality it is unavailable. The health club and swimming pool were very dirty. The hotel website is says many things but all the information on the website is false. The only advantage is that the hotel is close to the airport. I wanted to meet the hotel manager but one of the senior staff told me that he has quit the job due to the owner was not ready to make changes in the hotel. Me and my friends had a very bad time and wished we had stayed in a better hotel like Hilton. I have stayed in many hotels but I have not stayed in a Worst Hotel than Hamdan Plaza. It was a Waste of Time and Money.
