We really enjoyed our 4 nights at Hotel Kodjue. In spite of our limited french, we received prompt email communications prior to arrival and had good communication whilst staying. The lodge is located a good 15 minute drive from the Kuto, the main port area. So, we found that a car rental was best. The front desk set this up for us after we arrived. We were able to drive all over the island and get to Kuto as needed for snacks (or away from, if the cruise ship was there!). I would have loved to know more about the hotels history as it seems to be perhaps not what it once was. It certainly could use some updates and repairs around the grounds, but we never had any issues in our bungalow (had hot water, no bug issues, fans, lights and air con worked) And we always saw staff working to keep things clean and the grounds tidied. Additionally, the food is good, but they do run out of certain menu items and remember you are island time. So, keep your expectations in check, this is not a 5 star resort. However, it is clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is amazing. If you want to walk along a beach and have it all to yourself, see a sunset that will blow your mind, or dive with a shop that is world class, then stay at Kodjeue.

Flavienne was very hospitable at Hotel Kodjeue from booking to checkout, especially with my limited French. (Consider corresponding back in forth in email using a text translation program if you speak limited or no French.) The hotel is about an 8-10-minute drive from the airport and a 15-20-minute drive from where the ferry and cruise ships dock. (I rented a car from Edmund who was great and provided me with a nice, small, automatic car, though reserve in advance and expect to pay a premium.) Upon my arrival, Flavienne took ample time to politely explain common check-in procedures and pointed out places of interest, where to get fuel, and where I might like lunch. Additionally, she provided me an extra towel for the beach, and when checking out, she slowly and politely walked me through my charges. I thank her for her patience and kindness throughout my entire stay. The clean, oceanfront bungalow serves as the perfect respite on the island. Spend the extra money to get oceanfront: The waves hitting the shore are more than worth it, trust me, especially with such a spacious balcony. The room came with A/C, though I never used it, satellite TV (though I didn’t use it because I didn’t come to the island to watch TV), a decent bed with great pillows, a mosquito net (a common commodity in the tropics), ample closet/bureau storage space, and plenty of hot water for a shower. I’m a vegetarian who does not eat seafood, and the chef, Marianne, was able to accommodate my needs for breakfast with great scrambled eggs, delicious mini-croissants, baguette, cheese, fruit, butter, jam, and the best coffee on the island; however, email Flavienne in advance, and provide a friendly reminder upon checking in since produce and groceries are limited on this small island in the middle of the Pacific. All in all, this place is a safe, clean, quiet, serene hotel. It’s away from cruise ships and their crowds, but you’re not far from it all, either, with a car. (The hotel has car rentals and transfers for a fee, I think). If you’re looking for shiny updates, this might not be your place as some of the grounds could benefit from an update. However, at a great value, the westward-facing bungalow right on the sea might be just exactly what you need. Thank you, Flavienne!

We truly loved our stay at Kodjeue. It was a fantastic value for room+dives, which were with the dive shop located just across from the entrance of the hotel lobby (there were people who stayed at other places and had to be picked up to come to where we were located to join the dives, so it was super convenient for us to just wake up and walk over 1 minute from where we had breakfast at the hotel). Flavienne at the front desk (who I believe owns the hotel) was super helpful and kept us organised as if she was our private agent, making sure we had shuttle transfers when needed, arranged scooter rental, had our day trips arranged, etc. The room we stayed in was right at the edge of the water making it not only peaceful to fall asleep to but also stunning to wake up to. We could see sea gulls hunting for their dinner chasing schools of fish at the water’s edge, and sea turtles swimming around with their heads popped out of the water on the mornings looking for their breakfast. Also, the lovely lady that managed the restaurant had us organised for all meals while there - she was super nice, efficient, and on top of everything. Highly highly recommend Kodjeue, you will not regret it!!!

Flavienne (lady at reception) was absolutely amazing! We were seriously unorganised when we came to the hotel over Christmas and Flavienne helped us organise getting to places and getting dinner. Room itself was comfortable & clean, and being located right on the water was great.

New Cal and islands are very expensive, this was a relatively good value option by comparison! Lovely beach bungalow with a balcony that extends above the sands/sea at high tide. West facing so glorious sunsets. Tea/coffee/fridge/kettle in the room. Tea & coffee available in the restaurant all day. Bay is safe for swimming and snorkelling and dive shop is next door (but you must book in advance). Food at hotel was great (try their escargot!). If you ask they will do you baguettes for lunch. The staff are really friendly and helpful and have good English. I hired a car through the hotel and got to explore the island and it’s beaches... for best photos you want to be west cost in the morning and east coast in the afternoon to get the water colours. There are some beautiful caves, the Natural swimming pool is beautiful but does get very busy (especially on cruise ship days!) and there are plenty of other less busy beaches you can get to with a car. Be warned pretty much everything closes between 11-3 (except a few cafes where the cruise ship comes in) and all day Sunday (it is part of France after all!)
