On the edge of the Dorob Park, the Swakopmund River mouth and mere metres from the beach, Tiger Reef has a prime location can't be beaten. Clean, neat private campsites with covered parking, a sprawling grass 'park' and right next to the famous Tiger Reef Beach Bar and Grill. Access control with a remote gate and security, communal area and hot showers. Stroll along the beach to the the lagoon in the Dorob National Park behold and its bird life - flamingos, pelicans etc. The National Marine Aquarium is meters from our entrance, walking distance to the jetty and the unforgettable restaurant at it's point-some 300 odd metres into the Atlantic Ocean- Jetty 1905. Town centre is a scenic few blocks away. We can't wait to welcome you at Tiger Reef Campsite

The campsite is at the entrance of Swakopmund right at the beach. An ideal place for camping and caravaning. Small spots with table and barbecue give you a nice niche. The facilities are very clean and the team is highly motivated in service and very helpful if asked. The bar and restaurant nearby at the beach allow a pleasant dinner or a decent sundowner.

TigerReef is a good place to stay for a couple of days. Going to the beach and bar takes 3 minutes. When you want to go to city centre it’s also less than 10 minutes by foot. Campsites are clean and wide enough for a car with rooftent. Theres all you need at your site and toilets/showers aber just a few meters away. Staff is friendly and always there if you need any help!

Perfect place for campers to stop in Swakopmund. The campsite is in town and has everything you need with nice shades in a circle. Clean and quiet. The proximity of the campsites is in favor of meeting new people. Always nice when you travel

From requesting a quotation on a specific camp site to checking in and security and night shift and weekend staff, all extremely helpfull, I even leave my fishing rod, car keys, computer in the tent and they look after it. Sleeping in a tent, hearing the ocian at night, I have no words to describe it, beautiful. One problem, toilets and showers keep leaking, we can not afford to waste water in Namibia

Please be aware that the area is not secure no matter what the management or website says. The perimeter fence is made of fishing nets and palm leaves which 2 nights ago was easily breached by criminals who stole all our clothes and backpacks with computers, gas bottle and other gadgets. This all being done while we were asleep in our van!! We had just arrived after an 8 hour drive and hadn’t unpacked our kit. Understandably exhausted, we didn’t hear a thing! They do have 1 night security guard (who was gutted to find out the theft happened on his watch) but the grounds are large so he can’t be everywhere all the time. Apart from that, the grounds are neat, ablutions well cared for and the on site assistants are wonderful. Apart from patrolling security guards, I would like to recommend a proper perimeter fence and security cameras. Then the 24 hour security claim can be valid.

Response from Keren Till, General Manager at Tiger Reef Campsite
Responded Jul 19, 2022
From Tiger Reef management and staff we are deeply sorry for this incident. We did all we could to support you and assist with contacting the police immediately after your robbery. We have security (as well as a guard on duty) and we do our best to secure the premises but nowhere is impenetrable or infallible. The fence is a wire fence that is covered by palm tree leaves and net. Whatever the fence be it a solid wall, wood or palisade, if they want to get in. They will. Scaling a wall would have been just as easy…the street lights on the street side are very dim and we are on a National Park bordering a river on the edge of town, which makes it more vulnerable: all the campsites in Swakopmund are on the edge of town and criminals exploit their vulnerability. We do advise our guests to be vigilant and not locking your vehicle unfortunately made you an easy target. Criminals will always target tourists and they sit on the periphery and watch for any opportunity. Camping anywhere in Namibia carries this risk and most campsites along the way have no security at all, campers should be aware of the vulnerability of the open air aspect of the accommodation. We will and always do try and improve our security but we can never guarantee that an incident cannot occur. Hotels with the best security have break-ins in their parking lots as cars and smash and grabs are easy fodder for criminals. Once again we are sorry for this negative experience and we will do our utmost to try and prevent a recurrence. Thank you for your other positive comments despite the theft. We hope that you had a safe journey home. Yours sincerely, Tiger Reef

Great campsite with good ablution facilites and access to an excellent reataurant with sea view. Even though we arrived late we were able to get a camp site. Each site were fenced, had a cover over a place to sit, a place for cooking and a water tap. Everything noce and clean

We stayed here in the quiet season and there were only a few other people at the campsite with us. Despite the low numbers, the facilities were immaculate and staff was always present. It’s a nice little Campsite with some privacy between each site. The raised sitting area great and there is lots of room to park a truck. Water was always hot in showers.

Driving in we were in two minds whether to stay or look for another camp site. Looked neglected and a heap of, what looks like, old building material were lying next to the camp sites. Based on the spotless and spacious ablution blocks, we decided to stay and it turned out to be a pleasant stay. Well situated next to sea and within walking distance of two good restaurants.
