#1 of 6 Specialty lodging in Pemba
The contruction of Pemba Magic Lodge began in 1998. It started out as a campsite with a few tents and a dormitory for backpackers. Soon “The Blackfoot Bar” became a local institution and favourite hang out place for locals and tourists alike. In time the construction of the bungalows began, all individually designed by Russel, and all using as much local products as possible. Today the place has several bungalows, a large restaurant and bar. Pemba Magic Lodge was long known as “Russel’s Place or simply “The Campsite”, but since 2008 the place started using it’s original name “Pemba Magic Lodge” .

The place is kind of out of town, but it is totally worth it! Juts in front of a beautiful beach, if you are seeking for a getaway, this is your place. I stayed on a shared room and loved it 100%! Slept as a baby. There is also a restaurant with very good food, at reasonable prices. Pd the owner is juts the best.

Russel and his crew are so friendly and I always feel like I am going home when I got there. The seafood is always fresh and it has a pool, and is close to the beach. The beer is always cold! They have live music on most Friday nights and the clients are a great mix of locals, ex-pats and tourists - you will always find an interesting story here.

We stayed 2 night at Russel’s place and would have stayed longer if possible! We really enjoyed it - everyone is very friendly and the ambiance is relaxed. The rooms are cozy and clean, the shower is great! Swimming and coming area very nice as well. And the food is great, we especially appreciated the sea food platter and the lobster!

This was a great place to stay. All the staff were super friendly and smiley. We stayed in a dorm which was open air. It was so nice to be sleeping in nature (just make sure you mosquito net is closed properly!!). The ablution facilities were clean and nice. They had everything from self catered bungalows to an area to pitch your own tent for those on a tight budget. The communal area was great and had a very relaxed feel. Russel was so helpful in organising trips to surrounding places and the food was SO good. Nice to have a reasonably priced western injection after weeks of slumming it. Highly recommended!
