La Pirogue Mauritius garners praise for its pristine cleanliness and serene, traditional atmosphere that guests adore. While the value for money receives mixed reviews, particularly in terms of dining prices, many travelers laud the hotel for its excellent service and abundance of amenities, including varied dining and water sports.
The rooms, celebrated for their charm and cleanliness, are set against a backdrop of lush gardens, though there's some mention of minor discomfort with furniture. Its beachfront location is a highlight for those seeking picturesque scenery and proximity to local attractions.

Garden Bungalows are simple, but have everything you need, very lovely and clean, nicely arranged in half circles alongside the beach front, surrounded by an extensive garden area full of palm trees and a broad variety of other beautiful plants. After sunset you can watch fruit bats landing in the palm tree tops, looking for fruits. Royal Suites are huge, with a luxurious furnishings. (We had an upgrade for the duration of 4 days, due to unavailability of the booked bungalow), it was very pleasant to have so much space (and somehow funny because all the staff was assuming we are super-rich :-) ) Beach is amazing - blue/green water, fine white sand (not hot at all), but lots of corals so one best wears bathing shoes/thongs in order not to prick oneself. Beach beds and umbrellas are available both at the beach and at the pool, there is also shadow from the palm trees; while the beach beds were quite worn-out (but still ok), the big plus is that the umbrellas are arranged in a spacious distance to each other. And it's great that you can get fresh towels every day. Main (buffet) restaurant is a wide open space, very nicely divided into multiple separate areas so that the experience was still nice despite the many guests that were having dinner at the same time. Broad variety of food, be it starters, be it main dishes, be it desert, and the quality was excellent too! Staff is outstandingly friendly - not just polite, but really caring. Special thanks go to DIKSHA and RAVI (chefs de cuisine) for assisting every single day (!) in identifying the vegetarian and lactose-free dishes on the buffet, and for preparing one or the other delicious "extras" - extra-extra-ordinary, and touching! Thank you so much for making me feel 'special' in a very positive way (hotel manager could learn a lot from you guys!)! Special thanks also go to FEROZE for the warm welcome in the mornings at "our" breakfast table, and for the excellent service! Thank you! If there is one thing to complain then it's the conparably high prices for beverages and food (esp. in proportion to the local price structures), but that might be owed to the fact that it's a high standard 4 star house, and guests cannot only afford, but are also willing to spend that money.

It was SO good to be welcomed back to La Pirogue after 9 years. A huge thank you to all of the people in the hotel who made our stay absolutely wonderful. We come away with full hearts and memories to last a lifetime.
I've been lucky enough to travel to lots of lovely places however La Pirogue is hands down the best place I've stayed with regards to the people, the Island and the hotel.
Located on the West Coast of Mauritius, the natural, all ground floor villas perfectly blend into the natural palm tree surroundings. Think barefoot, comfort, relaxed and a place where you can leave all your troubles behind. A place to truly unwind, where the staff do everything to make sure you have the best time. Crystal clear water, beautiful sand and a gentle breeze with activities should you wish to do them, it is the perfect holiday for any traveller. Activities are fully included (regardless of what board you are on) snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boards, pedal boats, windsurf boards, sail boats, tennis courts, ping pong, yoga, organised beach volley, water polo, the cocktail making competition or the tranquil beach or infinity pool, this place has you covered. Special mentions to Rohin at The Boat House and all the people who helped set us sail and welcomed us back after activities on the coast.
After visiting twice before with family in 2013 & 2014, I came back with just my teen after 9 years and am so pleased I did. We made a lot of friends with the staff at the hotel who remembered us from our last visit and went out of their way to make our holiday out of this world - and being away from family at Christmas, we were nervous however were spoilt by the incredible little touches La Pirogue offered. Worth mentioning here that they have a double turn down service. Once in the day (the normal room clean) and once whilst you're at dinner. Also worth mentioning that La Pirogue is a very flat hotel. So completely able to facilitate anyone with mobility issues. They go out of their way to help those who need extra support.
The food was absolutely incredible throughout our stay but I must say, the Christmas Eve special dinner was out of this world. From a cheese table to sushi and fresh oysters to spit roasted pig / lamb to a traditional turkey (the best we've ever had) to sprouts with roast potatoes to biriyani and about 7 different flavour yule logs. Vik - the Executive Chef has absolutely hit the nail on the head here with the quality of food and the delivery of it. I take my hat off to everyone that worked the double shift in the kitchen to make the dinner.
Prior to dinner - we were all invited to a special cocktail evening with carol singers and canapes. None of this was an additional cost for HB/FB. A real rarity. Most other hotels charge a supplement for Xmas dinners...
Huge thank you to Vijay at the Beach Bar. Your hospitality and good humour throughout our stay was so very welcomed. You've not changed in 9 years and you're an asset to La Pirogue. We watched the way you make all guests feel really special speaking several languages along the way! Another few mentions to Jeewan, Blessed, John, Adebayor and Anita at The Beach Bar too. It was so good to meet you. Thank you for making the time to chat with us ... particularly about football :)
In the main restaurant, Wolmar, we would love to thank Lobin - the restaurant manager for running such a tight ship. Kevin, Ravi, Sabrina, Dev, Kamela and Sookoo always made sure we had plenty of tea at breakfast but also knew which table we preferred which was such a treat. Thank you Kevin for my tea at supper time with desert - such a treat!
In the kitchen, we'd love to make a special mention to Dav, Mary-Jane, Damilola (who managed to find me fresh coconut!) and Mama who cooked us fried eggs in the morning. You all work so hard but from what we see, you look so happy and nothing is ever too much trouble.
With regards to activities, my teen (13) went off and made new friends to do things with but also a special shout out to Thierry from the teens club/animation team who made such a special effort if there were no other teens around, to do things with him that were not scheduled. Thank you Thierry for remembering us from last time too! Tobias was also great fun doing water polo I'm told. Was also great to see Cinthia who leads the activities at La Pirogue continuing to raise the bar and make sure the guests have things to do should they wish to do so. The Christmas parade was awesome - drummers and Santa Claus arriving on a Paddle Board - SUCH FUN!!! They also handed out gifts to ALL the children organised by age.
The beach sellers are also lovely too - Mario and Solitaire David chatted with us. No hard sell and they have some beautiful sarongs and bracelets. Don't be afraid to chat to them and buy gifts to bring home or souvenirs for yourself.
Finally - the management here go out of their way to make sure your needs are met. They do everything they can and check in regularly. Parwez, it was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for taking a suggestion of mine and implementing it straight away. Thank you also for great conversation. Romeo C too - thank you also for checking in on us.
In summary, we had the best time at La Pirogue and I am looking to book flights as soon as I can to get back out there. It is a truly relaxed hotel where the opulence is in the people, the nature, the care and commitment vs the overly "stylised luxury" you might find at other hotels.

We are in our first week of a 2 week stay and are very impressed by the hotel and the staff. Located on a beautiful sandy beach, which is very well maintained, we are spoiled for choice of watersports, never struggle to find a free sun lounger, and have thoroughly enjoyed the beach bar / restaurants. The rooms are quirky and far more appropriate to the location than blocks of typical hotel rooms would be. The food offered in the various restaurants is excellent, but we find the buffet suits us best as the options vary daily, and there is always something to suit each member of the family. Finally, the members of staff are really attentive and keen to please. Highly recommended!

We had a great time at La Pirogue from October 19th to November 9th, 2023. The hotel staff were concerned about our well-being in every way, the employees were always friendly, considerate and careful. Despite somewhat limited language skills, all of our wishes were fulfilled. The beautiful, well-kept and spacious hotel is perfect for a relaxing holiday. There are enough loungers and stationary parasols on the beach. Trees also offer good sun protection. Beach towels are available right there. No extra costs for loungers, umbrellas and towels. Very good: There are drinking water dispensers in several places on the beach, which hotel guests can use free of charge. The standard accommodations, as we lived in, are in beautiful thatched houses, two in each building. They are no more than 100 m from the beach. Accommodations with a direct view of the sea are more expensive, to what extent the features of this higher category deviate from the standard is not known to us. We were completely satisfied with the simple category. The food offered in buffet form in the “Wolmar” restaurant is of good quality. In our opinion, the breakfast buffet left nothing to be desired. The evening buffets, which change theme (Asian, Italian, Indian, fish, sushi), were also always presented with great care. And if you arrive late for dinner, you can still find the entire range of offerings. It is worth noting that “all-inclusive guests” generally have to pay about two thirds of the price for a bottle or glass of wine that is charged for half board! For those who do not place great value on regular lunches and several cocktails throughout the day, we therefore only recommend half board. From the hotel you can walk along the beach to the town of Flic en Flac. After just 10 minutes you can reach shops and a little further away there are also restaurants. We recommend the experience of a ride on the number 123 bus to Port Louis! The stop is 100 meters south of the hotel entrance. Buses come regularly, approximately every 20 minutes. You pay the conductor, the trip to Port Louis costs about one euro per person. What was negative from our point of view? Only the behavior of some guests, who had to feed the cats living in the complex during their meal and also had to use the porcelain that the

The best stay of my life! The welcome of the staff is particularly remarkable. Kindness and dedication are their main assets. Always smiling, always wanting to help (I will particularly remember Parwez the executive assistant manager, Mamie the omelette lady :), Shedrick the lifeguard who is so kind and Ajay his colleague, Priti Madame Coco who is adorable, Prayag the waiter who is so dedicated and others). The bungalows are impeccable (large bed with good bedding), the TV offers a few French channels (canal, TF1, M6), there is a small fridge and a bottle of water is provided every day in the room. Bathtub and shower are the best. The buffets are INCREDIBLE, I remember the beauty of the place but the buffets make the stay even more fabulous. Every evening there is a special corner (Mexican, Italian, Mauritian etc.) in addition to the many dishes offered. Special mention for the ice creams, which, made with Mauritian sugar, become succulent. I regret the exorbitant price of wine, and the water a little too expensive. The shows every evening are quality. The beach is beautiful, cleaned but you have to get up early to reserve a deckchair, always the system of those who reserve with towels but it's okay, we manage to find them. I appreciated the free activities such as snorkeling (a must do even if you are not a swimming pro), the boat with a transparent bottom, paddle boarding, etc. For excursions, there are some offered at the hotel, taxis are also in partnership with the hotel but I chose "taxi flic en flac" on Google maps (red car with driver Suraj). The prices are unbeatable and I'm not talking about the kindness of this driver who took me to fabulous places with the best guides. He picks us up at the hotel reception. It's a plus to be able to enjoy the Sugarbeach hotel next door and be able to eat (reservation required) and swim there too. We benefit from 2 hotels and their infrastructures (for information there is a pink flamingo and turtles in the lake on Sugarbeach and at the Pirogue we have large bats in the evening). Tip: you can weigh your suitcase at reception, there is an infirmary, bring back the towel cards for check out, there is a currency exchange office with commission. In short, this hotel is paradise, don't hesitate :)

The wow effect begins from check-in: the hotel is designed in an authentic eco-style. Bright bungalows with thatched roofs seem to continue the beautiful seascape, rather than conflict with it. The hotel is incredibly stylish and beautiful. Very well-groomed area, trimmed lawns, beautiful tall palm trees, infinity pool overlooking the ocean. There are flying foxes, snails, and hedgehogs.
The beach is clean and beautiful. The sea is clean and calm, but there is practically no underwater world; the place is not suitable for snorkeling. There are sun loungers on both the beach and the pool. Lots of hammocks on site. There are a lot of coconuts on the palm trees that fall from time to time, but the staff tries to remove them from time to time, just be careful.
Very high quality animation from real professionals. I work as a fitness trainer, and I appreciated the quality of aqua aerobics, yoga at sunset under palm trees and dance lessons (Stellio is simply a pro). The gym is also of a very high standard. All staff speak both English and French. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. When checking in, I forgot my sweater in the lobby, they brought it to my room. The manager at the restaurant (a man with glasses) is also very kind and sweet, always trying to help.
The hotel borders on another hotel of the Sugar Beach chain, but in my opinion, the territory of La Pirogue is much more comfortable and atmospheric, even though it has fewer stars. The food is delicious, very high quality products (for example, cheeses), there is an island with a barbecue outside for dinner, which we discovered on the last day, because... and without it there was a good selection of dishes. For breakfast there is sparkling wine and delicious fruit, for dinner there is a large selection of desserts and ice cream.
The only negative that slightly spoiled the impression of the holiday was the paid water for dinner. We took breakfast and dinner, and dinner did not include any drinks except tea. Even a bottle of plain water costs money. This is our first time encountering this, especially in a hotel of this level. This is a small thing, but it greatly spoils the hotel's image. Otherwise, the hotel is wonderful, we will happily return there again.

The hotel complex is very well maintained, very clean and blends in very unobtrusively with the surroundings. You don't get the feeling that you are in a large complex.
The hotel is on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius, Flic en Flac. The hotel's own beach is fantastic and there are plenty of loungers. You also get new beach towels every day and there are even water dispensers on the beach.
The food selection is fantastic with daily changing theme evenings; there are also two a la carte restaurants. We had AI, which was well worth it because most of the dishes in the a la carte are included and even the wine and cocktails.
In general, it is the best AI we have ever had (worldwide). There are really good cocktails that are prepared and decorated with great attention to detail. The wine selection in the AI package was also very good.
On the beach you can rent pedal boats, kayaks or SUPs free of charge and snorkeling trips or trips on the glass-bottom boat were also free.
There was live music every evening and live shows on selected days.
The waiters are really very friendly and very attentive, and special mention should be made of the two waiters Ravi and Prayag, who practically knew what we wanted in advance and always served us the right thing. At lunch in the Magenta Fish Restaurant we were spoiled by the lovely Kamla, who speaks almost every language and always has a joke. We then spent the evening at the Medine Bar, where the charming and always cheerful waitress Mimi served us. She basically passed on her good mood to the guests.
It was also worth mentioning that we were able to enjoy the all-inclusive until the very end on our day of departure and were even able to take another shower in the evening despite checking out at 12pm. So we spent the whole last day on the beach.
All in all, a very nice holiday and a hotel that we can recommend without reservation.

Nice and polite staff. No staff constantly running around and trying to force excursions/SPA on you. You are rarely and discreetly asked whether you would like to take part in the pool activities. Cocktails are mixed well. The food was very good and we tolerated everything. Every now and then we were surprised by spicy dressing. In general the facility is maintained and kept clean. An exception would be the covers of the beach loungers. Although they are washed off, they could still be replaced slowly. At the wedding gazebo there is a pond with frogs. You can hear these at night. If that bothers you, you could ask for another room. The WiFi was stable but has a filter against VPN services/erotic/unsafe or scam sites. That was too much censorship for me. Prepaid SIM card from the airport for free internet helps. If you have booked all inclusive, you have to sign a €0 invoice for everything. That was kind of an unnecessary waste of time/paper. You could save yourself the deposit system for beach towels. You can often just take new cloths without having a card. Fresh towels are provided on the pool loungers. On the other hand, the beach towels are also collected without you getting a card. Then why have a deposit system at all?

We stayed at La Pirogue Mauritius for a week in October 2024 and stayed in a premium garden bungalow with sea views. In a beautiful and well-kept garden area with a lot of palm trees and right by the sea. The beach of Flic en Flac is made of white, fine sand and invites you to take long walks. Cleaning of the room was ongoing. There are 5 restaurants to choose from, all dishes are freshly prepared and varied. The main restaurant is divided into several sections so that there is always pleasant peace. All staff are very warm, always give a smile and are helpful in all cases. Bathing shoes are mandatory due to deposits from the coral reef and sea urchins. Swimming in the sea is restricted as very shallow. We had a wonderful stay and can use this place Recommend without restriction. Many thanks to all the people who made this holiday possible for us. To everyone we've met and those who've worked in the background.

What can I say, everything was perfect, we are absolutely thrilled. We spent our honeymoon here and it was absolutely not a bad decision. There really wasn't a single member of staff who wasn't super friendly to us and brought us something straight away if we were missing something. The rooms were cleaned every day, the bed linen was also changed every day and our clothes were even folded and our things put away. The complex is super huge, so we didn't have to leave the hotel because we had everything we needed in the hotel complex. The food was delicious and there was a large selection of meat and vegetables. Really an absolute top recommendation both as a couple and as a family vacation or even as a girls' vacation. The hotel deserves only a positive review :)
