Our stay at the Sugar Beach resort in early December 2023 was outstanding. We went to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. They could not do enough once the hotel learned this was our reason for the visit. We had flowers delivered to our room, bottles of bubbly, canapes and a special anniversary dinner in the Buddha Bar restaurant on the day of our anniversary.

We stayed in a deluxe sea-view room overlooking the main adult pool. The room was lovely, with a large walk-in shower and plenty of storage and space. The way the room is designed is that you enter into a sort of bathroom area, in that it has the two his and hers sinks with the walk-in shower area behind it and the toilet to the side, and the bedroom is beyond that. The two areas can be screened off for privacy if required. The bed is comfortable, although we did have to request more firmer pillows. The housekeeping team is outstanding, and the evening turndown service is lovely, and we appreciated the little touches. Everything is spotless, and they quickly respond to any problems or queries.

We were on the AI plan and found this to be more than adequate. We used all three restaurants on site. Our favourite was the Buddha Bar; the food and service were excellent here. We ate at the Citronella a couple of times. We liked the setting of this and the atmosphere. However, the food was hit-and-miss. I do, however, recommend their excellent pizzas. The main buffet restaurant was also very good, with plenty of choice, with local and international dishes. Breakfast choices were great, and we enjoyed the breakfast fruit choices at breakfast, particularly fresh mangoes, pineapple and watermelon. As a vegetarian, I didn't struggle with food choices. Being a vegetarian, Indian cuisine is a good option for me, and whilst I don't enjoy mouth-numbing heat or spice, here it was very, very mildly spiced, almost bland, and slightly repetitive. This would be my only small criticism.

There are two main pools, with one being adults only. We liked this pool because it had a chilled and peaceful vibe here. We enjoyed watching the sunset every evening from the pool; it was stunning. The pool service here can be slow, so if you want to order many poolside drinks, consider being by the main pool, where there are more staff or the beach. The beach service staff are excellent and very efficient. Shout out to Luka, who looked after us here. The one other area area which could be looked at is the evening entertainment. It could be more well advertised, so you never know what act is on each night nor the timings. While "easy-listening" or mellow jazz acts are pleasant to listen to, acts like the Breakers are more enjoyable and create more of a holiday party vibe with great audience interaction. Generally, we found the resort relatively quiet, with most people in their rooms by 10.30. If you want a more lively and "popping" resort, this would not be it.

The resort is immaculate, and the grounds are well-maintained. The most significant selling point of this resort is the staff. Outstanding in every department. Special shout out to Nimay and Manisha in the Buddha Bar, who looked after us exceptionally and ensured our tipples of choice were ready as soon as we arrived. Also, Vikram in the buffet restaurant who looked after us at breakfast and lunch, along with Ravi, Mitesh, Disha, Dookun, and so many others. All were amazing, and we can't thank them enough for making our stay so enjoyable. Also, to Priya, Executive Housekeeper, who ensured our anniversary was marked properly and looked after us well.
Thank you to the Sugar Beach team; you were all great, and we can't wait to return.

I am delighted to know that our team went above and beyond to make your special occasion memorable, from flowers and bubbly to a special anniversary dinner at Buddha Bar. It warms my heart to hear that these gestures added to the joy of your celebration. Your detailed feedback on your deluxe sea-view room, the layout, and the outstanding service from our housekeeping team is greatly appreciated. I'm glad we could accommodate your request for firmer pillows promptly. We take pride in providing a spotless environment and addressing any concerns efficiently. Your insights into the dining experiences at all three restaurants, especially the positive comments about Buddha Bar, are valued. I appreciate your honest feedback on the Citronella's food, and we will certainly take your suggestion into consideration to enhance the culinary offerings. Your mention of the breakfast choices and the vegetarian options is noted, and we'll strive to improve the variety and spice levels. Your feedback on pool service is duly noted, and we will work towards improving the efficiency, especially in the quieter areas. I also appreciate your suggestion regarding the evening entertainment, and we will work on better advertising to enhance the overall guest experience. We spent 10 days at the Sugar Beach in February 2020 and had a wonderful holiday. The hotel is very well located with well kept gardens and lawns, a beautiful private beach, and two pools (one massive one with a separate enclosure for little ones 0.45m) and another smaller but still good size, quiet pool. There are plenty of sun loungers both on the beach and around the pool with fresh towels. The sea is like a lagoon so it is easy for swimming and snorkelling and warm but it is a good idea to bring special shoes because of the coral and sea urchins.
Our room was one of the old ones but will be updated this year. The cleaning service from our cleaner Sweety was excellent.

The staff were wonderful during our stay, attentive to details and always helpful. A big thank you to all the pool waiters that worked tirelessly all day to serve drinks and food always with a smile.

My daughter did some activities with the teen club and a big thank you to Bea, Carine, Sly and Johnathan for entertaining night and day!
Also big thank you to the lifeguard Vishagen for entertaining our little one with drawings during our stay. There is a very good kids’ club and well-equipped gym.

The food at the buffet Mon Plaisir is good, with every night a different theme. Again, the chefs are sweating all night to cook fresh fish and meat in the heat.

I am only giving it a 4 star because the downside is the price of the drinks and food that is not included in your package. We went half board and glad we did, as even if you are all inclusive, you have to add a supplement for nearly everything. A pint of Heineken is mru 500 (£10!!!!) same with a glass of wine. If you are AI you even pay a supplement for fresh juices at the pool. We had lunch at Citronella which was massively overpriced (£80 for two pizzas, one tomato pasta and two small starters with two beers)! The pizzas are very good from a wood oven built outside but the Spanish starters were poor. Either way the menu is overpriced as are drinks generally. A bottle of water cost mru 21 in the supermarket but mru125 at the hotel.

Overall, we loved our stay at the Sugar Brach and will definitely visit again if we have the opportunity.

I took my girlfriend to the Sugar Beach for her Birthday, she told me that it was her favorite hotel growing up and that her parents would bring her there for her birthday when she was younger so I thought it would be worthwhile to do it again to allow her to go for a walk down memory lane... And I must say the resort blew me away in every aspect. Whether it was The Head of Sales Isabelle and the Guest Relation Supervisor Wasim who called me beforehand to make sure that all my special requests for her birthday were met. Or Anand the Waiter who came to check on our table every morning to make sure we got our hot chocolate which was my gf's favorite drink! (He Remembered) or Fazle the barman at the beach bar who would go out of his way to make sure that the a club sandwhich my GF ordered was just way the way she wanted. The rooms were emaculate with a breathtaking view over the lagoon with a truly mesmerizing sunset. The food was exceptionally good in all the outlets and we tried them all. The pizzas at Citronella were delicious and the mixologists Jean and Pravesh went out of their way to organise a table outside so that we could have a family lunch with her parents. Last but not least was the Budda Bar concept. Truly something to experience! The cocktails extremely funky and out of this world with unique presentations that showed the time and effort of preparing these unique cocktails. The Food of Budda Bar was quite literally to die for with such amazing service! This resort has won me over! So much so that we came back two weeks later with the same satisfaction and the same difficulty of leaving it... We will be back again and again. Thank you all 😁

We have just spent 10 days at the Sugar Beach Resort to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable and the day itself was very special. We were invited to a complementary ‘Milestone Meal’ at the Buddha Bar restaurant, which was a splendid evening and much appreciated. Our stay in room 737 was made all the more comfortable by the constant attention on Wesley, our Housekeeper who always greeted us with a smile. At the South swimming pool we were extremely well served by Sorab who ensured that we always had clean towels and plenty of water. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the pool and its surroundings. As always, the staff make all the difference...!

We have just returned back to the UK following a wonderful second stay at Sugar Beach, Mauritius for 14 nights. During this stay we were delighted to be staying in our ground floor room in one of the newly refurbished sections of the hotel. The room itself was beautiful. There was plenty of useful storage, house keeping were excellent and left a number of towel art displays.

Throughout the hotel the hotel grounds are kept immaculate and clean. The hotel has a magical feel. The beach is paradise. We enjoyed a lovely massage during our stay which was fabulous, well worth the money. The spa is great.

The newly refurbished Italian restaurant is lovely, with an outdoor bar area and pizza oven. The pizza's were delicious and the alfresco dining is a great option. The sunset view from the Italian is the perfect setting for an early evening drink. The Buddha restaurant is located right on the beach which is a great location and is extremely peaceful. Kash and Sarah from in the Buddha restaurant were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you.
All food was lovely quality and there is plenty of choice in variety of restaurants including the main buffet. Each night has a different theme in the buffet restaurant which provided some variety. The cocktail list is perfect too.

All staff helped to make my husbands birthday very special during our stay. They left a "Happy Birthday" message in our room and sang happy birthday with a cake at our meal that night. Everyone could not have been more helpful and kind.

We are really looking forward to returning again next year and seeing the newly refurbished buffet area, reception and Manor House. Thank you to all staff for making our holiday so relaxing and special.

Wifi is non existent in the room (702/703), the service was definitely not up to standard for a 5 star hotel. We were not once serviced without having to find someone to ask several times.... Not in the dining area or the beach area. The kids club facility is a 9 out of 10 but the programme is rarely stuck to and kids are left disappointed when activities are not adhered to. The actual hotel and rooms are 10 out of 10 but There is no chance to rest in the evenings in your room as the "bass" from the music being played until midnight EVERYNIGHT is just ludicrous and something that kills the ambience of the resort. You cannot even relax in your room without listening to "doofus doofus doof" all night long, If I had known the resort was a Party resort until midnight every night I would have skipped it from the start. The TV keeps freezing up for some reason and makes it rather difficult to watch a story. It is my 2nd time visiting Sugar Beach and I would in all likelihood not return. I have stayed at several hotels in Mauritius over the years and at the rating and hype over Sugar Beach I was a little disappointed. At the Cost of what I paid I expected a lot more.........

Dear Clivemaher, First of all, thank you for having booked your holidays in Mauritius with us. I would, also thank you for giving us a 10 out of 10 for our newly refurbished rooms. I am very sorry to read that we have not been delivering service up to your expectations. I have already seen with mu IT specialist to increase the rendering to the WI-Fi but I must mention that we did indeed have a general internet issue in the region of Flic en Flac itself. I have also seen my whole team to ensure that service delivery is enhanced through training and that the sound is monitored to a certain level. Spent my quarantine at Sugar beach from end of July to mid-August. Most of the time was teleworking, feeling very privileged to work in such a gorgeous place. The room was very clean and spacious with a big bureau to accommodate my laptop, notebook, cell phone and mug. Importantly, the Internet connection was very fast and there was never any problem to send heavy documents. My room overlooked the beach and the quiet pool: very practical to check if the pool was crowded with screaming kids . From time to time, I had an early swim in the morning (the pool is cleaned every morning) but gosh the water is cold though I must admit revigorating after a few strokes. I don’t recommend the sea - in some places it’s lined with long and scary Synapta Maculata, snake sea cucumbers. However, I had a lot of fun watching and teasing them with my flip flop. Every morning it was low tide and it was reassuring to see that the water was crystal clear. Before my working session, probably due to the positive hotel atmosphere, I always felt joyful and peaceful walking in the sea where there were plenty of sea urchins, black sea cucumbers, starfishes and strange/funny fishes. After work, I always went for a long walk on the beach and everyday even when cloudy, the sunset was stunning with incredible different colour shades!

Breakfast was delicious (Benedict eggs, sausages, beacon and Mauritian specialities like dholl pourri, tipouri, etc), all very yummy. Must definitely try the crêpes (taste is different from crêpes bretonnes) even if one doesnn’t like sweet stuff. They were light and super tasty and toppings go from maple syrup, nutella, lemon, coco powder to different types of marmalade.

Dinner was a treat every night. The menu changed every day, at least was never repetitive during 12 consecutive days. For sure must go direct to the Mauritian specialities, washed down with a few local beers. I really enjoyed the Mauritian Thirsty Fox craft beer which comes in various types (lager, weiss, pale and amber ales), ideal with spicy biryani, tandoori chicken, shrimp chatini, kung pao chicken version indu-mauritian, grilled tuna and calamari, octopus salad, etc
All the staff was very welcoming and they make their best to satisfy every guest. Special thanks to smart Akshita, kind, attentive and caring Aldo, enthusiastic and smiling Somrah who always call me from far to fill my plates with unknown delicacies, and sweet Mrs omelette, the only female chef, whom I forgot the name. To all the staff, congrats for your professionalism, hard work and hospitality.

Having stayed at the Sugar Beach several times over the years we recently returned for the first time since the pandemic and had an excellent stay.
As always, the setting, pool areas and grounds of the hotel looked gorgeous and were very well maintained. We stayed in a room in the Manor House which had recently been refurbished and was excellent, large, light and airy with a lovely large walk-in shower area. We ate in the main restaurant every night where the food was delicious, with a wide choice to cater for all preferences, although we all agreed that some of our favourites were the Mauritian dishes and snacks. A new ‘cool room’ where all the salads and desserts were displayed had been installed in the restaurant since our last visit which was good to see. Breakfasts were also excellent with a huge choice and some dishes cooked to order. There are lots of activities on offer and we made good use of the gym which was very well equipped and also ran several classes, and water sports which ran out of the boat house along the beach towards La Pirogue Hotel. Pedalos, kayaks etc are on a ‘first come first served’ basis with some activities (boat trips, snorkelling etc.) needing pre-booking at the boat house. My husband made good use of the golf course at Tamarina which is a great course and free for guests, with a shuttle service to the course provided. However, above all else it was the staff that made our stay here so amazing, for us there was truly a sense of ‘coming home’ as many of the staff were there during our last trip pre-pandemic. All of the staff are genuinely so hospitable and kind, and always have a smile for you. We haven’t singled out specific staff for compliment (for fear of leaving out some we should have named!) but we truly believe that the staff at Sugar Beach achieve the rarely found perfect balance of providing a quality professional service whilst also having the ability to tune in and engage with guests on a very individual level, making us as guests feel very special! Hopefully we’ll be returning again before too long.
With love

As a resident of Mauritius I have stayed in quite a few of the luxury hotels here. Sugar beach may look luxurious on the photos and to be fair it is in a fantastic location. The rooms are very clean and tidy but very small. What really let’s this hotel down is the service, it’s shocking to say the least, last night I waited 45 minutes between my starter and main course. This wouldn’t have been a bug issue had we not been the only people in the restaurant. At breakfast we sat for 20 minutes before any waiter asked if we would like tea or coffee, and when I asked for sparkling water was pretty much told to get it myself. Unless this hotel send all of their staff on a customer training course, then they should not consider themselves a 5 star hotel! It is a 3 star at best. If you ever visit Mauritius, give this hotel a very wide berth as there it will ruin your experience of this beautiful island.

I am very sorry to read that we were left behind with the Food and Beverage service as our associates strive hard to provide an enjoyable dining experience to each and every guests. We have taken the necessary measures to reinforce the standard of service in our restaurants. I understand that your experience at our resort did not really reflect the level of service that you were expecting. We truly value your loyalty and hope that you will give us the opportunity to redeem ourselves by welcoming you back in the near future. Sincerely, Nicolas De Chalain General Manager

We went to Sugar Beach with our 2 kids and were there for a 14 nights stay. The staff specially Shan, Vani, Kumar, Ornella nd Imrit were always there for us. Even though the activities provided by the hotel were limited (no heated pool and no snorkeling) we were impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the staff in general. We were provided with top notch service and special needs/requests were fulfilled. We can say that the employees are the ones who make the hotel a five star one. The food there is also very delicious and meet up to the level. Unfortunately during tea time at 4 p.m there is only pancake/crêpes available and choice of fruits is also very limited during breakfast (only papaya, pineapple, kiwi, apple and orange). We would have expected a better choice of fruits. For vegetarian there is not much scope for lunch (no low carb). We really liked the pizza prepared by Citronella. Buddy Bar had also really exquisite dishes. Our room was cleaned daily and when our 3 year old kid was unwell, we were reassured by Shan and the other staffs also were also willing to help. However the second batch of staff who came ( the first batch having completed the 14 days service go in a 14 days leave) were not up to the level. Fortunately it was only during the last 4 days of our stay. Overall we would give the hotel staff 5 star plus rating and for the hotel a 4 star rating

Dear happymum84, Thank you for your review which is extremely valuable to us. I shall certainly forward your feedback to all employees, especially those you mentioned; Vani, Kumar, Ornella, and Imrit for going the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. The credit for the scrumptious buffet goes to our chefs and a note has been taken of your request regarding the afternoon tea together with fruits selection. Along with the chef, we shall find possible ways to review the menu. The possibility for special orders is also available upon request. We are obviously sorry to read that we have not entirely lived up to your expectations with regards to the service provided by some of our team members. There is always room for improvement. We will use your feedback to re-enforcing our training to achieve excellent levels of service. Do rest assured of our hospitality at all times. Sincerely, Nicolas de Chalain General Manager

Hi. Yes you could do. I think local currancy is best for tips. We found it useul to have some rupees. You're right that you can't buy them easily in the UK. You buy them at the airport in Mauritius. it's all very straightforward. There is an exchange just through the airport after you pick up your baggage. The exchange rates are good and you can buy what you want. On your return, you just go to the exchange office and exchange your rupees back to whatever currency you want. Again the rates are good.

Hi, you can get water at breakfast and lunch, but water is not free around the hotel, it is in the mini bar in the room. Food is served from the restaurants only, Citronella & Buddha bar are on the beach
