Ambre Mauritius is celebrated for its pristine beachfront location and the serenity it offers, complete with soothing music and lively entertainment. While the staff's warm and efficient service garners appreciation, some guests suggest the rooms could benefit from refurbishment, despite their cleanliness and potential for stunning views. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness shines through, from the spotless rooms to the well-maintained grounds. Although opinions on the hotel's value for money are mixed, the ample amenities and dining diversity still manage to impress many travelers.

Hotel's Favorite
We are regular, repeat visitors to the Ambre Resort & Spa and for us it’s like steeping into our own bubble for the fortnight. It’s as close to Paradise on Earth that you can get. We stayed here on 01st December for two weeks. This time a belated celebration of our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and my goodness did they make it special. Don’t arrive here expecting a standardised room that could be anywhere in the world. Personally we prefer rooms with some rustic charm rather than a characterless square box. The rooms have their own quirks in places. However, the rooms were spotlessly clean and functional and if any problems presented themselves these were fixed straight away when brought to their attention. The king size bed along with the pillows was exactly to our liking. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. For those wondering what to pack here are some of the positives within our room. A full size kettle; please note that the teabags provided have a hint of vanilla added – not to everyone’s taste. The fridge is re-stocked with beers, soft drinks, water, chocolate bars and peanuts each day provided that you empty it first. The electricity sockets are the European 2 pin type but there was one handy additional UK 3 pin socket for convenience. There’s plenty of storage space and many coat hangers. A plug in electric mossie deterrent was also provided. (It’s worth noting that when you turn the main light switch off that this shuts down the lower power sockets too.) Shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and conditioner along with face flannels were provided although I prefer my own shampoo etc. The towels and beach towels were nice and fluffy. The security safe was sizeable and worked well. A hairdryer and slippers were provided. The air conditioning was also quiet and effective. The men were not required to wear long trousers for dinner in the evening. A smart pair of shorts was acceptable. One important thing to note is that at this time of the year it is very hot and the comparative effect of the UV rays was very strong. Whatever level of SPF you normally use, go at least one stronger and take more than you think you need. Costs of such commodities in the hotel shop were extremely expensive i.e. a regular bottle of Piz Buin was an amazing £26.00; a small bottle of Elvive shampoo was £10.00. It wasn’t much cheaper in the local shops ~ so be warned! On that note the cost of souvenirs was very prohibitive. Such a shame as we finished up not supporting any of the local shops as their prices were so exorbitant. The remainder of the hotel was fantastic:- the pool which was 4 feet in depth throughout, the amazing beach (yes we were the two ‘professional tanners’ welded to the 2 sunbeds in front of the coral bar from dawn to dusk most days!) The Coral Bar itself provided a wonderful hub for those guests who wanted to mingle with others. This ensured such a friendly atmosphere which spanned all age groups and many different nationalities. There is also the Ti Bar ~ a cocktail bar on the water’s edge. The view from there around the bay was like heaven on earth, especially after one or two sundowners! We would also add that the Five Island boat trip with Chris was not to be missed even if that’s the only thing you do whilst there. A lovely man who really wants you to have a day to remember. He is well insured and much cheaper than the tour operators. If negotiating with a taxi driver for a tour of the north or the south of the Island you should be able to get this for around 3,500 Rupees. Don’t bother taking US dollars ~ the locals want their own currency. You get a better rate of exchange either from the kiosks in the airport arrivals hall or better still from the ATMs if you have a favourable bank card for using abroad. It is expensive to exchange your money at the hotel. We would also like to highlight the services of all the hard working staff:- Teeshan the GM and Reyad the Guest Services Manager. They really do make the whole system tick. A huge thank you to Michael who so ably leads the bar team. Michael is a natural born leader and his skills in ensuring he gets the very best from his team are very apparent. He is obviously respected highly by the bar staff and the results reflect this. Alongside Michael, a special mention to Siham. My goodness he was a fast and efficient worker ~ a credit to the organisation. He produces the work of three when the bar area is busy. Nicoletta brightened up the area wherever she was; her smile; her singing and infectious personality was a delight. She obviously loves her job and we love her too! We spent most of each day on our favourite sun beds just below the Coral Bar and most people expected to see us there. Mundhill always kindly kept an eye on us ensuring that we didn’t dehydrate during the day. Tooshar and Krish were also very attentive. Nikhal from the Ti Bar mixed a very good cocktail and always made a fuss of us. Our room attendants Sayed and Ravish were superb; so friendly and so keen to ensure that our stay was the best it could be. Kamlesh who is now in La Plage always made time for a quick chat with us. He took a great deal of pride in his work. Vanessa in the reception was very obliging when we reported an issue which was readily resolved. Kishan in the Indigo restaurant welcomed us whenever we were there; remembering what we liked to drink, where we liked to sit and ensuring everything was good for us. It was lovely to learn a little about his family which he was so proud to tell us about. Last but certainly not least were the porters handling our departure. They arrived at our room within minutes of our call and the lad with the clipboard very efficiently ensured that everyone was directed to the correct vehicle and also had the correct luggage. He obviously took great pride in his work but unfortunately I didn't get his name. Without exception the Ambre staff smiled their way throughout the day. They are a real credit to the Ambre and there are many more that would deserve a mention we are sure. They along with their colleagues worked tirelessly on our behalf. Will we return? Oh yes in a flash we will. We can thoroughly recommend the Ambre Resort and Spa. Thank you all once again.

Ambre and its staff went out of their way to make our second stay even more memorable than last year! The food was very good. Indigo: We loved the daily Indian flatbreads, cooked freshly either on the hotplate or tandoor in front of you. There is a good selection of main meals, salads and puddings to cater for all tastes. The staff in Indigo were so lovely. They got to know us and soon began anticipating our needs! Veema, Anil, Sheila, Arka, Prakash, to name a few wonders! With a special mention to the ever smiling Jannick. La Dolce Vita managed by the smooth operator Davisen, ably assisted by Kenny and his young staff, always a happy greeting even when it is a busy service. Coral Bar. Siham is the absolute star mixologist of the Coral Bar. He gets to know what kind of cocktails are to your taste and would greet us with a wonderful cocktail even before we’d placed an order. He makes a cracking coffee too. It’s no wonder he wins competitions. Michael and Pascaline were also gems of the Coral Bar. Jearee was brilliant at the Ti Bar and beach service. Again, once he knew what drinks we tended to order, he would just bring them along to us! Even remembering which drinks we had at different times. Cannot fault this for attention to detail service. Well done to the GM Mr Teeshan Gutty and his team for his magnificent staff who ensure that his guests enjoy their stay.

Ten local Mauritians, including myself, enjoyed a fantastic stay at Ambre Hotel from April 8th to 10th, 2024, on an all-inclusive basis. Our experience was exceptional, with delicious food and impeccable service. Special thanks to Laxman at the bars for his excellent service and to Mahen, the F&B Manager, for his utmost helpfulness. Mahen ensured our stay was perfect by arranging all our meals, including lunch and dinner.

We had booked Amber resort in Mauritius for 2 weeks over Easter, and BA got us there from London in good shape. Unfortunately I fell ill 2 days into the holiday and ended up in a local hospital for 4 days. When you book a holiday you never expect to have to use any medical facilities, and the value of Ambre having a full time nurse on site with a medical centre was immense, with the local gp on call and only 15 minutes away. The true culture of any resort comes to life when there is a problem, and the Ambre staff were genuinely kind, caring, concerned, and every day multiple staff were politely talking to my wife to see if there was anything that they could do to help. That made a real difference. The friendly and caring culture of Ambre is a real credit to the resort owners and management. Well done! Elsewhere in the resort, the Italian restaurant was really good, and the 2 lagoons meant that there was ample water space to either paddle or swim.

My wife and I stayed for 10 nights in April as a holiday for our wedding anniversary. From start to finish, we had an amazing holiday and would recommend this hotel a million times over. The rooms are spotless and the mini bar is restocked every day, along with bottles of water which is very handy. The member of staff who cleaned our room (Rm500) was always so polite and asked how we were and if there was anything we needed. Such a lovely man and always had time to have a conversation. The Italian restaurant was a highlight for us and you could not keep us away. The lunch time menu is so good that we ended up having two courses most days. We also visited the Italian in the evening twice and the food was beautiful. The service was always spot on but we have to give a huge thank you to Kenny who couldn't do enough for us and always with a huge smile on his face. La plage was stunning too. The staff set us up a special table for our anniversary and the food was delicious. We paid extra for the lobster for our main course and it was probably one of the nicest meals we have had. For our anniversary, Saskia made sure everything was perfect and our room was also decorated with beautiful petals. The pool area is cleaned every day and the staff go above and beyond to try and keep it well maintained. Yes, things may blow into the pool but this is to be expected with it so close to the sea. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool and towards the beach. The gym was spotless and had a huge range of free weights and was never too busy. Air conditioned too which really helped with a water fountain. People moaned on reviews about seaweed. They have tractors doing work to try and keep it maintained but also, what do you expect when the tide is constantly in and out? We often frequented the Ti Bar on the beach and again service was amazing. One member of staff (whose name I can't remember but he was a young tall male) was always making us laugh and couldn't bring us a drink quick enough. The area itself was beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed sitting there watching the sea. There is also volleyball and other activities around that got guests involved. Coral bar, where we spent our evenings with the most attentive bar staff you could find. The following staff were incredible for so many different reasons, Vishnu one of the bar managers. Dhanish, who was one of the waiting staff. Siham, one of the bar men. Kumar another member of the bar staff. None of these let us have an empty glass, were so friendly and welcoming. These members of staff are a credit to the hotel and part of the reason why we want to return. Do not miss out on the 5 island speedboat tour with Christ who is based at the hotel. What an experience! We saw giant turtles, saw dolphins, fed monkeys and saw some of the most amazing sights. This also couldn't have happened without our guide, Kenny who was so friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We only did the experience with a day left. I wish we did it earlier as we'd have done it again! My wife and I couldn't recommend the hotel enough. The staff of Vishnu, Kumar, Siham and Dhanish were all the most amazing hospitality staff. Kenny in the Italian was brilliant from minute one. Saskia, brilliant whenever I needed her help. We will be back.

Accommodation is definitely 3* no frills is tried and need work done. Rooms were clean though apart from the small ants that get everywhere. Don’t bring food to the room they will get worse! We didn’t really use the pool as every day the towels were laid early by people that half of the time were not even sat there. Beach beds are a little uncomfortable the bars underneath just seen in the wrong place somehow. Beach does accumulate loads of seaweed but the hotel do their best to remove quickly and almost daily. We had a fair bit of rain during the evening and the bar area roof seemed to leak if heavy so didn’t seem well equipped for rain. Food can’t complain about varied, hot and tasty. Staff all very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Now the down to this hotel, there were 2 dogs roaming the beach the first couple of days I saw a dog water bowl that I hear a guest brought for the dogs which then disappeared. Guest were having to use cups to give these dogs fresh water. The guests are stealing food to feed these hungry dogs all because the hotel refuse to work with a charity offering to feed them which is disgusting. I have re-honed one of these dogs as she was in a poor state and I couldn’t leave her. The second was taken by the charity castrated , flea and worn treated and brought back to the hotel as being fed by tourists. From me putting the word around to other guests he managed to also be revoked by another guest on my last day which was great news. If you see a poor dog look up stray dogs belle mare and make contact they will come get the dog and treat it. If you see a dog with a collar have a look will mean it’s likely up for adoption too. These dogs do need to be suffering help then!
