Ambre Mauritius is frequently lauded for its immaculate cleanliness and the warmth and attentiveness of its staff, which guests have often cited as enhancing their stay. While the hotel's beachfront location is praised for stunning views and a variety of activities, opinions on the value are mixed; some commend the all-inclusive options, others point out additional costs and dated facilities.
Rooms are generally seen as spacious yet require modernization and better upkeep. The atmosphere presents a blend of vibrant entertainment and calm, but could benefit from some revitalization.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
We are regular, repeat visitors to the Ambre Resort & Spa and for us it’s like steeping into our own bubble for the fortnight. It’s as close to Paradise on Earth that you can get. We stayed here on 01st December for two weeks. This time a belated celebration of our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and my goodness did they make it special.
Don’t arrive here expecting a standardised room that could be anywhere in the world. Personally we prefer rooms with some rustic charm rather than a characterless square box. The rooms have their own quirks in places. However, the rooms were spotlessly clean and functional and if any problems presented themselves these were fixed straight away when brought to their attention. The king size bed along with the pillows was exactly to our liking. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. For those wondering what to pack here are some of the positives within our room. A full size kettle; please note that the teabags provided have a hint of vanilla added – not to everyone’s taste. The fridge is re-stocked with beers, soft drinks, water, chocolate bars and peanuts each day provided that you empty it first. The electricity sockets are the European 2 pin type but there was one handy additional UK 3 pin socket for convenience. There’s plenty of storage space and many coat hangers. A plug in electric mossie deterrent was also provided. (It’s worth noting that when you turn the main light switch off that this shuts down the lower power sockets too.) Shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and conditioner along with face flannels were provided although I prefer my own shampoo etc. The towels and beach towels were nice and fluffy. The security safe was sizeable and worked well. A hairdryer and slippers were provided. The air conditioning was also quiet and effective. The men were not required to wear long trousers for dinner in the evening. A smart pair of shorts was acceptable.
One important thing to note is that at this time of the year it is very hot and the comparative effect of the UV rays was very strong. Whatever level of SPF you normally use, go at least one stronger and take more than you think you need. Costs of such commodities in the hotel shop were extremely expensive i.e. a regular bottle of Piz Buin was an amazing £26.00; a small bottle of Elvive shampoo was £10.00. It wasn’t much cheaper in the local shops ~ so be warned! On that note the cost of souvenirs was very prohibitive. Such a shame as we finished up not supporting any of the local shops as their prices were so exorbitant.
The remainder of the hotel was fantastic:- the pool which was 4 feet in depth throughout, the amazing beach (yes we were the two ‘professional tanners’ welded to the 2 sunbeds in front of the coral bar from dawn to dusk most days!) The Coral Bar itself provided a wonderful hub for those guests who wanted to mingle with others. This ensured such a friendly atmosphere which spanned all age groups and many different nationalities. There is also the Ti Bar ~ a cocktail bar on the water’s edge. The view from there around the bay was like heaven on earth, especially after one or two sundowners!
We would also add that the Five Island boat trip with Chris was not to be missed even if that’s the only thing you do whilst there. A lovely man who really wants you to have a day to remember. He is well insured and much cheaper than the tour operators. If negotiating with a taxi driver for a tour of the north or the south of the Island you should be able to get this for around 3,500 Rupees. Don’t bother taking US dollars ~ the locals want their own currency. You get a better rate of exchange either from the kiosks in the airport arrivals hall or better still from the ATMs if you have a favourable bank card for using abroad. It is expensive to exchange your money at the hotel.
We would also like to highlight the services of all the hard working staff:- Teeshan the GM and Reyad the Guest Services Manager. They really do make the whole system tick. A huge thank you to Michael who so ably leads the bar team. Michael is a natural born leader and his skills in ensuring he gets the very best from his team are very apparent. He is obviously respected highly by the bar staff and the results reflect this. Alongside Michael, a special mention to Siham. My goodness he was a fast and efficient worker ~ a credit to the organisation. He produces the work of three when the bar area is busy. Nicoletta brightened up the area wherever she was; her smile; her singing and infectious personality was a delight. She obviously loves her job and we love her too! We spent most of each day on our favourite sun beds just below the Coral Bar and most people expected to see us there. Mundhill always kindly kept an eye on us ensuring that we didn’t dehydrate during the day. Tooshar and Krish were also very attentive. Nikhal from the Ti Bar mixed a very good cocktail and always made a fuss of us.
Our room attendants Sayed and Ravish were superb; so friendly and so keen to ensure that our stay was the best it could be.
Kamlesh who is now in La Plage always made time for a quick chat with us. He took a great deal of pride in his work.
Vanessa in the reception was very obliging when we reported an issue which was readily resolved.
Kishan in the Indigo restaurant welcomed us whenever we were there; remembering what we liked to drink, where we liked to sit and ensuring everything was good for us. It was lovely to learn a little about his family which he was so proud to tell us about.
Last but certainly not least were the porters handling our departure. They arrived at our room within minutes of our call and the lad with the clipboard very efficiently ensured that everyone was directed to the correct vehicle and also had the correct luggage. He obviously took great pride in his work but unfortunately I didn't get his name.
Without exception the Ambre staff smiled their way throughout the day. They are a real credit to the Ambre and there are many more that would deserve a mention we are sure.
They along with their colleagues worked tirelessly on our behalf.
Will we return? Oh yes in a flash we will. We can thoroughly recommend the Ambre Resort and Spa. Thank you all once again.

Just returned home from a weeks stay at the Ambre Sun Resort. After reading some of the bad reviews we went with some low expectations but were very pleasantly surprised. We arrived 9.30am too early to check-in so the very lovely staff firstly gave us a cool flannel, drink and pastries, sorted out the paperwork and showed us to the guest changing rooms so we could freshen up and change for the beach. The experience was definitely not the nightmare some people have made it out to be. Guest Services Manager Vikesh and Food and Beverage Manager Daram both introduced themselves and nothing was too much trouble, all the staff are so friendly a credit to The Ambre.
After spending time on the beach and having some lunch our room was ready at 2pm. Perfect. The room was very clean, spacious with a lovely balcony and a sea view. Both the beach and pool area are gorgeous so very pretty, staff working very hard to keep it all looking lovely. Overall for the money we paid we felt our holiday was good value and would definitely return, the location is stunning and we would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
It's not difficult to have a fabulous holiday in Mauritius! I accept we arrived on New Year's Day just after a cyclone had hit, but this hotel has all the potential of being an excellent rather than mediocre one. There's a severe lack of information available if you’re an independent traveler and our arrival was hot, humid with a very long wait for our room supposedly at 1400hrs, but actually well after that. That said the Buffet Restaurant does offer an excellent selection of dishes at all meal times and staff are helpful and friendly, but to get a table on the Terrace always involved a wait whatever time we arrived and inside really isn’t attractive, being noisy and humid. Worth noting that there’s no AC in any of the food outlets! All drinks are served by the glass and service is often chaotic and terribly slow. The only A la Carte restaurant has to be booked, is rather soulless and service is even worse. Our room was large, fresh, clean and well equipped. There are plenty of sun loungers, but not so many parasols. Reserving loungers is permitted and we could find no showers around the pool. We did really enjoy the kayaks, lasers, pedalos and the beach itself where they had a great bar service running. The gym was small, but well equipped and the Spa was excellent. So in summing up, this is a fine hotel, but just not the standard we were expecting for what we paid. Any problems reported were dealt with swiftly, but I’d rather not have to report problems on holiday.

Dear CCollins-Walker, I wish to express my sincere thanks for taking the time post your review your Trip Advisor. I regret to take note that some details, kept you from enjoying your stay at Ambre Mauritius. Please rest assured that I have immediately reviewed these points with the departments concerned. I would also like to apologize for the long wait for a table on the terrace of our main restaurant, Indigo, due to limited capacity and as you might have seen, depending on the weather, we also set some tables by the pool side for dinner. Indeed, our restaurants are not equipped with an air-conditioning system as all the three restaurants are open spaces, but due to the high humidity and heat of our summer, we have placed some coolers in the restaurants to be able to provide a better ambiance. On the other hand, we are very glad to learn that you had a very nice culinary experience and you have been able to enjoy the complimentary facilities at our boathouse as well as using our small but well-equipped gym, and surely, a bliss moment at our Spa. We highly value our guests feedback as this is what supports us in our efforts of improving the level of service and standards. I sincerely hope to welcome you back amongst whereby we shall have the opportunity to prove that the experiences you lived is not the level of service we provide to our valued guests. Sincerely, Viren GOVINDA CHETTY General Manager

So we came on holiday with some apprehension having read some of the trip advisor reports.
The reality for us is that the hotel, the grounds, the beach are all beautiful. The bedroom is small and functional, we have a mini bar which is replenished daily, cans of local beer, water, coke, sprite and local chocolate bars. Tea, Coffee and sugar are all available.
There are sunbeds on the two beaches and around the pool, even though the hotel has a no reserving sunbeds policy and there are signs round the pool saying that towels will be removed after 45 minutes of no one being there it’s not really adhered to, which is an annoyance and spoils it for those who are looking for somewhere to lie.
The beach is beautiful, the waiters are friendly but not intrusive and they wander round asking for drink orders.
The pool area is stunning, the coral bar brilliant and the staff are all very friendly.
The food in the main buffet restaurant is abundant and changes daily, there is a choice of meat, fish, curry, stew. A large selection of salad and appetisers, sushi, carpaccio, cold cut of meat and much more. The fresh bread is amazing.
There are theme nights in the restaurant, we’ve had world buffet, Marco Polo, Mauritian and all have been great.
My advice leave room for desert the patisserie is delicious, there are bite size cakes a plenty and fresh fruit, I’ve eaten so much fresh pineapple it’s divine.
The drinks on the all inclusive package are plentiful and we’ve not needed to pay for premium brands, I’d recommend the MaiTai if you are on the beach or at coral bar.
If not the local Phoenix beer is very refreshing and cold and they do a good G&T.
The best bits -
The beach, the pool, the staff, the food and drink, the evening cocktail ritual.
The minor gripes - service was incredibly slow in Dolce Vita (part of all inclusive but needs to be booked) and the restaurant had little atmosphere.
The TI bar on the beach not being part of all inclusive, the setting is amazing.
The sun lounger reservists who don’t show up for hours but have beds reserved.
Overall, this is a great place to holiday, it’s relaxing, the food and drink are great. Last nights Chicken Makhani curry was delicious. We would whole heartedly recommend.
Ps if you are a dog lover the strays on the beach like ham and cheese.

We was here 3 years ago definitely not the same hotel. Check in awful waited for 4 hours for our room. Stayed in 825 deluxe sea view haha the view on top floor was a palm tree very dark needs serious updating. We saw several children staying in a so called Adults only when lots of people complained they said they’d seen their passports confirming they was 16 no way the youngest one we saw was around 10 what a joke. Some of the staff remembered us which was nice others ignored you when we asked for water while in the restaurant most need to learn how to smile. If you like curry your on a winner, the food is very repetitive mostly only warm. Dolce Vita is a joke so is La Plage service is appalling 45 minutes or longer between courses. There was no supplements last visit now there’s loads never saw anyone at the Gin bar with seating made of cheap pallets. The drink are terrible in my opinion watered down. If you want entertainment on an evening in the coral bar don’t hold your breath this needs addressing, there is locals doing dancing but mostly are all the same very repetitive. Put karaoke on in the H & H Bar every other night it was only once in 2 weeks which was a great night & drew in lots of customers. There should be signs around the beach telling people it’s adult only because parents & children was coming in from the beach. Animation team don’t make any effort doing aqua gym counting a few times then walk away. Chefs in the pool hut on a lunch time spend more time on there phones than encourage you to get snacks from them not a good impression. In my opinion themed nights need looking at ie surf n turf was thin strips of beef & fish. Where is British themed night seeing how a lot of customers were from uk. They seem to go out of there way for Mauritians staying for a few days. In honesty I couldn’t see any plus sides. We will definitely not be returning

Dear Guests, I wish to express my sincere thanks for taking the time post your review your Trip Advisor. I have read your comments with great concern and wish to sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you experienced during your stay. I fully understand your ‘disappointment’. Please rest assured that each point has been reviewed with the respective managers with regards to the service and your comments will sure be relayed to the level concerned to avoid any recurrence of such nature. However, we wish to reiterate that our resort is an Adults Only resort and we do not accept reservations for teenagers who are under 16 years old. We regret that the changes that we brought were not to your satisfaction but we wish to reassure you that our Ti-bar concept is to provide a more local tavern experience along the beach. I sincerely regret that these ‘inconveniences’ have somehow altered your impressions on your stay but would sincerely hope that you give Ambre team one more opportunity to regain your faith in our hotel. In the hope to the opportunity to welcome you back. Sincerely, Viren GOVINDA CHETTY General Manager

A pretty tatty old resort in need of more upkeep. We were shoved in a tiny dated old room at the back of the furthest block from reception and were kept up all night because the kitchen staff from the resort next door were taking deliveries at 4am and by the sound of it weren't to pleased about it either. The balcony and main window of our room was over viewed by all of the washing up staff in the kitchen next door. We complained and they could only move us to the room below which had lights hanging out of the ceiling, mouldy tiles in the bathroom, about an inch of dust on the bathroom mirror and yellow stuff in the fridge. God knows what that was.
On a plus note because we were in the far block we did have use of the cocoons to sit in which other customers were charged about £10 a day for. This was a blessing as there were never any spare loungers by the pool. There was a sign saying that towels would be removed if unattended but they never were. On our last day we checked out early at 5am and there were people putting towels out at that time so we had no chance.
The food was just OK but to book a table in any of the restaurants you had to book it at 9am which isnt great if you fancy a lie in.
I am glad we had a car as it was in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing around. From seeing the island you would be better going to the West coast if you want some outside action.
I would say that if you are looking for luxury look elsewhere as this worse than some 3 star hotels I have stayed in in the Mediterranean.
Oh and the hair dryer set on fire and the electric kept going off. More like faulty towers than luxury. The beach was nice though.

Dear alansO4390YC, Thank you for having taken the time to share your stay experience in 2019 on Trip Advisor. We regret to take note of the inconvenience you were faced with and wish to express our sincere apologies and wish to renew our thanks for highlighting the areas of concern to our attention. We wish to reiterate that as our restaurants have limited capacity, the table reservations are on a first come, first served system so that all our guests may enjoy the dine around experience in our restaurants. Also, as we have limited seats available around our pool, it is also on a first come, first served system. However, we wish to reassure you that we have placed more sunbeds along our beach and in the gardens so that our guests may enjoy a nice beach experience. We read that you had the chance to rent a car and drive around the island and we hope that you were able to discover the lovely flora and fauna of our tropical island and the cultural diversity of Mauritius. We reassure you that we have analyzed your feedback with the different departments of the hotel which you commented on, and we would like to reassure you that immediate actions have been initiated for corrective measures. We hope you will give us the opportunity to regain your faith in our resort. Sincerely, Viren GOVINDA CHETTY General Manager

We booked a 7 night stay in this hotel at the very last minute so we hadn’t really done a full research of the Island never mind the hotel.
We had travelled for the best of 23 hours door to door and we were pleasantly greeted with a frozen orange slushy with some sugar cane, everyone was then told the rooms wouldn’t be ready until 3 hours later (3pm). Not ideal.
The we paid extra for a sea view which is definitely a must! The room itself was nice and spacious the bed was massive and very comfortable!
The beach was glorious although you had to get up early to get a bed with an umbrella, the sun was so strong you really need one for a bit of relief or you’ll cook!
There are some free activities on the beach, pedalo’s, wind surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayak’s and snorkelling/ glass bottom boat trip.
The buffet was nice and the theme changed a every evening, based mainly around fish and vegetable curry’s. The Italian restaurant was a case of booking a table at breakfast and you were treated to table service.
The main grumble we had with our stay was the all inclusive, the TI bar wasn’t all inclusive but then if you argue with them they will serve you as it says you can get drinks on the hotel channel on the TV.
Avi in the coral bar was brilliant, always looking out for us to see if we were okay for drinks, a real asset to the hotel and should be recognised.
Ram was the cleaner for our room and he was a breath of fresh air every time we met him, he just wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

We had a fantastic time at Ambre sun resort for two weeks over Christmas, a special mention to Avi who looked after all our drinks he made our holiday very special and Always went above and beyond his duty, restaurant staff were always very attentive, food was excellent and amazing especially on the Christmas Eve gala entertainment was amazing too.
Some attention is needed for check-in being on the beach in the heat is not very pleasant, the rooms could do with an update but didn’t spoil the holiday.
The cleaners of the rooms could learn from the bar staff we didn’t find them very good, that said we still had a fantastic time and is good value

After a 12 hour flight and travelling we had been up 24 hours, having to wait 4 hours for our room did not make us happy! Whilst we waited for a room we had a drink at the pool bar, the gin and tonic was served in a plastic glass which had seen better days, it was disgusting, we couldn't drink it, decided to order a sparkling wine, also in a plastic glass, this wasn't much better but we drank it. Looked at the menu and all the decent drinks are extra. Whether you have paid all inclusive or bed and breakfast the cost of the drinks are the same for everyone which is unfair. We got to our deluxe sea view room 812, on the top floor but no sign of the sea unless you squinted to look through the palm trees. The food in the buffet is very repetitive, the same every night apart from the 3 curries that change, it is only lukewarm. When you ask for drinks they take ages to be served to you and the water is not chilled and there is no ice - if you ask for ice don't hold your breath waiting for it. Dolce Vita is a bit better as it is waiter service but a bit slow and still no iced water which is ridiculous when it is so hot. We used La Plage at lunch time and it was really nice and no extra charge whereas at night you have to pay. There is a gorgeous gin bar with comfy seating and great views of the sea but you have to pay and its more expensive than buying a gin and tonic in the UK but it's the only place you can get a proper glass. We didn't stay for the entertainment as it looked poor. There were a lot of locals at the weekends and in the evening and the hotel couldn't cope with the extra guests, a few times we went to the Dolce Vita at lunch and the gin bar but couldn't use the facilities as there was a private function on, I appreciate the hotel has to make money but when you've paid a lot of money to stay in an all inclusive resort you should be able to use all the facilities, they seem to favour the Mauritians staying for a few days or day trips. They have a lot of specials eg sushi nights, meal on the beach, but everything comes with an extra cost. I have never been to an all inclusive where I've had to pay to eat decent food and drink. There are a lot of staff that deserve a mention and they made our holiday Cleaners, Manav and Sharav, the guys who run the beach pods Jay, Avyn & Rahul. The H & H bar Vindon and Soobash. The mini bar Khushal. The buffet Girish, Oumesh and Vishal. We would not return here and I would advise anyone who is thinking of coming here to look at other resorts or bring plenty of money

Dear SouthAfrican2, Thank you for reviewing your recent holiday at Ambre on Trip Advisor. We have taken note of all the points mentioned by you and would like to assure you that every single feedback - both positive and constructive is taken on board with the utmost seriousness it deserves and where applicable we will be correcting the service standards. We continually strive to provide the very best to all our guests and the very many reviews on this forum are a testimony to that. We apologize for the inconvenience caused during your stay. However, we wish to reiterate that we do not make use of plastic glasses at Ambre, as per our sustainability program, and we rather use polycarbonate glasses which can be washed and reused. We serve drinks in these type of glasses around the pool or along the beach as they do not break easy, thus avoiding most chances of injuries, if they fall down. In our beverage menu in the all-inclusive package, we propose all the local ones or locally bottled drinks only. All the beverages that are imported are available with supplement and there is a difference in the prices for the guests who are on all-inclusive and those who are not residing at the resort. At our main restaurant, Indigo, we serve a buffet with around 29 to 35 items daily and we do not serve the same items everyday. It may seem similar due to the presentation, but we reassure you that it is not the same items. However, we take good note of your comments with regards to the lukewarm food, which we shall relay to the concerned department. With regards to the room, as per your reservation and confirmation received from your agency, the room check in is done at 15.00hrs, and your local representative reconfirmed that the same information is provided to all the clients upon confirmation. On the other side, we are pleased to learn that you enjoyed the friendliness of our staff and we thank you for recommending those who had the privilege to look after you during your stay. We hope you will give us the opportunity to regain your faith in our resort. Sincerely, Viren GOVINDA CHETTY General Manager

Me and my husband had our honeymoon at the Ambre resort and there is only one word to describe it and that is fabulous!
On arrival we were greeted with cold towels and fruit cocktails, we checked in to our room we had a superior sea view room and it’s worth the extra as the view is incredible. As it was our honeymoon we also had a bottle of champagne in our room and a meal at there beach front restaurant (this is not included in the all inclusive package) the food was brilliant and we even got personalised menus as a keep sake, I would recommend eating here if for nothing else the view! The food in both restaurants was lovely there was a nice variety and we both tried foods we might not usually.
The staff at the resort cannot do enough for you, all greet you with a smile and are very accommodating warm and welcoming.
The all inclusive package is brilliant as it included non motorised water sports, we tried paddle boarding and my husband also paid to do water skiiing which is all provided in the resort.
On our final day we had to check out of our room at 12pm and were not due to leave until the evening, the hotel has a lovely touch in that there is a hospitality lounge with drinks facilities, TV and separate bathroom suites for guests to freshen up prior to the flight, this was much needed after a day in the sun.
Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend this to anyone travelling to Mauritius whether this be for a couples break or your honeymoon you would not be disappointed.

hello we were at the hotel with 3 adults and i can assure that there is enough space. You will just have to request an additional bed in the room. There is enough space for that .
There is also a beach bar. It's not necessary to sit near the bar to enjoy. There is a lot of space to have your drinks by the seaside. There are a lot of waiters who are ready to serve clients to their best. Anyway, it's hoped that Food and Beverages Managers ensure that clients are royally served.
