The one sentence summary is that the quality of the resort/amenities/food and the impeccable service made our stay really enjoyable even though it stormed most of the time during our stay. We will definitely go back if we go back to Maldives. The service during the stay was just impeccable. This includes our amazing personal concierge Shawki who took care of our very request, the twice-a-day room cleaning service that never missed a single thing, service at every meal, their thoughtful arrangements for us to celebrate both my birthday and our wedding anniversary, airport pickup/send-off, and honestly just with everything we do in the resort. The level of attention to detail was very impressive. They truly didn't miss anything. Our flight was very late on the last day and they extended our checkout to 9pm so that we could stay in the comfort of our own room until last min. I also want to give a big shout out to our personal concierge Shawki. He helped us with multiple bookings for restaurant and massages on a timely manner, was extremely responsive in communication with us on WhatsApp (really nice touch, BTW), and just had such a warm and happy demeanor that made us feel welcome. Also, without him, we would have attempted to leave Maldives without the health QR code. :) The resort itself is fantastic as well. Our villa was in great condition and it is great even for rainy weather because there is a sizable outdoor area that is under a pavilion so you can enjoy even if it's raining. We also really enjoyed the oversized tub when it was storming outside. We were particularly impressed with the huge infinity pool by the beach and also the massage villas. I won't describe the massage villa here because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover for yourself. Food wise, the international buffet breakfast was very high quality with great service. By the time we made it to Waldorf, I had started craving Asian food and the Asian section of the buffet breakfast was a pleasant surprise in quality and authenticity. We also sampled a couple restaurants. Having grown up in Beijing, I endorse the quality of the Peking Duck in Li Long. I probably can't say it's as good as the best ones in Beijing but it definitely met my expectations for being in the middle of Indian Ocean. :) The Ledge Burger also delivered. I think it may have been the best burger I've ever had. If my stay were longer, I'd have gone back for the burger a second time. My husband and I definitely will go back to Waldorf Astoria if we go back to the Maldives. And we will be sure to end there because we want to end at the best resort.

I normally don't write reviews, but this property deserves the effort. There are many positive things to say about the Waldorf Astoria Maldives. We've stayed at other Waldorfs as well as other Maldive properties, and the level of customer service at this particular property is superior and welcoming. First, the yacht ride to the island was perfect, our yacht concierge Sam made us feel right at home. She set the tone for the rest of our stay with her wonderful and friendly service. Our personal concierge Saddam was also fantastic, ensuring we got reservations to all the restaurants we wished and checking on us everyday at breakfast. The staff at the restaurants were all very kind and fun as well! They made us the best meals. Our compliments to the talented Culinary Director VJ and his colleagues of amazing chefs, Sam, Hayat and Addi and our servers Bilhy, Shazeel and Husynu, all whom took great care of us. It makes a huge difference to the quality of our vacation when the staff are genuinely kind and welcoming, taking time to remember our names and likes and chatting with us. It goes without saying that the property and rooms are beautiful. We loved the traditional thatched roof of our villa and the high ceilings. I spent everyday solo snorkeling on our reef just off our infinity pool. There is an abundance of large, vibrant and colorful marine life just 20 meters where the reef drops deep into the ocean beyond. It was such a thrill to be able to wake up and jump into the warm Laccadive Sea and swim with large parrot fish and other creatures every morning. Thank you Etienne Delançon for managing such a "fantastique" team. We really enjoyed everything about our stay, the privacy, the food, the well appointed villa and location and the amazing and warm staff. We hope to return soon.

I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives for twelve nights in April 2021. This was my fourth trip to the Maldives over a 20-year period but my first to the WA. I have stayed at some great hotels around the world, but this is the first time I am leaving a review. The experience was frankly incredible from the second I set foot on the boat in Male and until I returned. The main thing for me was the villa. Looking at pictures and videos online can not do justice to the build quality down to the smallest detail, or the stunning layout of the villa. I had a reef villa which was the best option for me given the proximity to the breakfast at the Tasting Table. I believe each villa looks the same except for some variations in size. Waking up each morning and hitting the “open curtain” button on the room ipad gave me goose pumps every time. Looking out over the deck with the pool and the stunning lagoon beyond is just breathtaking. The island itself is 2.2 miles from end to end and I did a round trip on the supplied bike each afternoon. Everything in the place is impeccable. The breakfast buffet is superb and includes both Indian and Chinese food in addition to Western food. The pastries were fresh daily and delicious. I tried one of the tasting menus at both the Japanese and the Chinese restaurants and both were quite good. Good, but not Michelin star good. Apart from the breakfast buffet, the food is the only area where I was not blown away. The Middle Eastern restaurant was closed during my stay, and that would have been nice to try. Both the main pools are superb in different ways. Every time I sat down on a pool chair someone came by within a couple of minutes with cold water. Anything I ordered came promptly as well. I went to the gym every day and the staff could not have been more helpful. I had a massage which was superb as well. I did a few dives. This is one of the main reasons I come to the Maldives. The dive trips usually only have up to a handful of divers which make everything comfortable compared to being on a packed boat. The checkout dive is straight off the beach down to about 50ft, and I liked it so much I went back and did it a second time after a boat dive trip. The snorkeling on the house reef is quite good although it’s a bit of a swim in shallow water to get out to the drop-off. The service is normally not of huge importance to me unless it’s really bad. Arriving at the island guests are met by a personal concierge. Mine was Saddam. He gave me a small phone with his number programmed in and told me that I could call him any time. He then took me on a buggy ride around the island and showed me everything. I told him he would be unlikely to even hear from me. However, when I asked restaurant staff to call for a buggy late at night when I didn’t feel like biking a mile back to the villa, Saddam was the one who came with the buggy every time. He called me to tell me about free snorkeling trips and other events. He made sure that everything was smooth and easy, and the level of attention was just right. He would drop by to make sure everything was ok during the Hilton Honors happy hour, and the Hilton rep. did the same several times. Thanks Saddam and Shanu. You are awesome. Every interaction I had with staff was extremely nice and professional. For me, Four Seasons hotels around the world set the standard in this area, but the WA Maldives staff just moved the bar quite a bit higher for me. All in all, it’s hard to find adjectives that do justice to this hotel.

I recently spent 5 nights/6 days at this little slice of Paradise with my husband as well as a friend who joined us for three nights. This place is nothing short of magical from start to finish. First up Covid: All in our party had been vaccinated so felt comfortable traveling. In addition had to provide PCR test w/in 96 hrs of arrival and complete Health Declaration form prior to arrival. Once we were on Waldorf property, guests not required to wear masks except at breakfast buffet. Staff masked at all times and had at least one vaccination. Arrival/Departure: We had been at another resort prior to the Waldorf (WA) and were escorted to the WA representative who whisked away our luggage and escorted us to the gorgeous yacht that would deliver us to the resort. We were settled into our luxurious quarters, and attended to by our concierge Mohammed, who offered delicious finger sandwiches and treats, water, juices, and of course their signature Champagne that we could not get enough of. The 40 min ride was a delight as was our return journey 5 days later as we were the only ones on board. On the way back, the crew slowed the engines, escorted us out to the front of the yacht so that we could watch the dolphins that were leaping and playing around us. Special note: Mohammed followed us with our champs. Staff experience: We were welcomed at the dock by several staff upon arrival, offered their signature drink. and greeted by Pooja, the Assistant Manager, who thanked us for our Lifetime Diamond status, informed us that she upgraded us our last 3 nights (even though our villa was already perfection - more on this later), and introduced us to our personal concierge for the trip, the wonderfully attentive KD. I had also been in contact prior to arrival with Pooja asking for several accommodations which she was enough to grant. KD quickly checked us in, gave us a quick tour of the island in a “buggy” (golf cart) and then took us to our villa. Over the next 5-6 days we were overwhelmed by the staff’s kindness, genuine love of what they do and attention to detail. Each and every person we came into contact with went the extra mile to make our experience exceptional. What makes this place special is the consistency of excellent service. If we even hinted of something that was “off” it was immediately addressed so as not to take away from our enjoyment. If you looked like you were lost, someone would escort you, if you looked hot, water was immediately in your hand. Hungry but too lazy to go up to buffet? They brought it to you. I think you get the idea. From start to finish, the entire staff went the extra mile. In addition, Pooja kept tabs on us, making sure we were happy, checking in with us each day at happy hour or stopping to say hello when she saw us. She was so wonderfully warm and efficient, I had to hug her when we left. Shout out to Hassan Amber, the airport concierge who guided us through a crazy airport and cranky airline staff on our departure from Male. More on KD and other staff below. Concierge: We loved having one person, KD, who attended to all our needs, answered our questions, made restaurant and spa reservations, chauffeured us all over the island, arranged snorkeling gear, room service, PCR tests and even filled out those pesky health declarations forms for us. KD was all that and more. He gave us a phone to call him but we used WhatsApp which was more convenient for us. He introduced us to Amber, the champagne bar with the best viewing of the sunset, always showing up to pick us up 5 min after the sun set. He recommended restaurants and accommodated my frequent cancellations, was always conveniently there to transfer us back to our villa after the complimentary HH for Diamonds. Never oppressive, just behind the scenes in case we needed him. Restaurants: We ate breakfast every day at Tasting Table (free for Diamond and Gold) - amazing buffet and ala carte menu which included more champagne. Some favorites - the eggs Benedict, the poached egg with avocado toast and their amazing croissants. Mouhan, the manager warmly checked in with us each morning always stopping for a chat. On our last day, one of the servers, Aalif, creatively decorated our table with coffee beans “See you soon” with dolphins and hearts. Such an effort was so appreciated and touched my heart. We had dinner at Shimizu where the wonderful Sharon guided us through wonderful sushi and sake selections (although watch out for mosquitoes- it had rained that day and they were out in full force). We also dined at Terra where you are put in bamboo treetop “pods” the most romantic restaurant, served a 5-6 course prefix meal by the delightful Melody (HE was a former DJ and the name stuck) so beautifully presented that you hated to eat it - but we did and it was yummy! Very expensive but one of those experiences not to missed (think beluga caviar). Lastly we dined at The Ledge after we told about the unbelievable burger - it delivered and we had it twice. (The second time was one of those cancellations that we moved to room service at the last minute without even the blink of an eye from staff). Summation: all food was spectacular. Lastly our daily happy hour from 4-5: sparsely attended and saw the same 6-8 people every day. Bartender Sudeep made a mean Vanilla Margarita, and the servers Ali Waheed and Hussein were friendly and fun, and took such care of us, as did the manager and sommelier Zeddy. Spa: I had to visit as I am a Spa fanatic and they offered an additional 30 min of service for Diamonds. Beautiful treatment rooms, with private dressing rooms. I was given a foot soak then 90 min massage looking down into sea as we were in an over the water casita. Served tea and treats after, while they called me a buggy. Do not recall the therapists name but she was lovely and the massage was very good. Rooms/Villas: You must look up the website to view and truly understand the opulence and beauty of these villas. We had booked a King Reef and were upgraded to Grand King over the water villa (bigger with a living room and over the water views). Both had large decks, pools, lots of lounging area in sun and shade. I took several naps on the swing. All lights, drapes etc were controlled by iPad in room. We snorkeled right off our balcony - make your way past coral in shallow area to edge of reef (cooler water) - and just follow reef down the island - saw beautiful fish and a few small harmless sharks). Housekeeping: This team is spectacular. They are in constant contact with KD your concierge to coordinate when you were out of the room for breakfast so they can come in and do their job. They left us extra water, beautiful treats in the evening and we’re truly wonderful and friendly. Location: I won’t say much here as most of you know the Maldives is truly paradise on earth. It is a trek to get to - I highly recommend Qatar Airlines from the states to Doha, then the flight from Doha to Male. Still a long flight but very direct. However once you arrive, you question why it took until now to get there. The pictures you see on Instagram accurately reflect the beauty. Summation: This crown jewel of The Maldives is not to be missed. The Waldorf Astoria is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
