Out of 4 other islands we’ve visited this one has the best beaches. We initially had a room on the north side which was lovely but the beach was too rocky for easy bathing. we asked to change and we were offered a room on the south side which was perfect - opposite the inpool villas where we could watch the sea planes coming in to land. Beautiful beach right next to large sandbank. All staff were excellent and went out of their way to please; the room boys were excellent so too staff in dining room with special mention to the guy on the egg station! We were slightly put off by occasional flies hovering near the food. Our own waiter, Mahid, although quiet, was first class and gave us excellent service. Food was good and plentiful, but nowhere near as good as Bandos Island, where selection, cleanliness choice and variety were second to none.

Thank you for taking the time to share your Angsana moments with the world. We are delighted to hear you've enjoyed the beautiful beaches at Angsana Velavaru. It is indeed our most unique feature that makes us different from other islands in Maldives. Your support and compliments to the team are very much appreciated. We will certainly pass on your comments to Mahid. We certainly note your comments regarding food quality and cleanliness and we understand there are always spaces for improvement. Thank you once again for sharing the experience, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards, Angsana Velavaru Management Team

During the spring of 2019, my family traveled from Charlotte, NC all the way to Angsana Velavaru and it was absolutely incredible! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a delicious cold snack after almost 22 hours of travel, which was great! I could immediately tell that not many people from the USA made the trek all the way out to the Laccadive Sea, which was later confirmed by many of the staff. We were also unique in the fact that we had one room on the island and one room over the ocean to accommodate everyone as the 3 large suites over the ocean with two beds were fully booked for our dates. This separation added a unique challenge since upon our arrival, we learned that the ferry between the island and the water suites only ran (I think) every hour, meaning we had to carefully coordinate everything from breakfast to dinner, which was not a huge issue, but hotel staff were very reluctant to any exceptions. The only time this became a true issue was when someone in our party’s spa time went slightly over, and they were forced to wait for an hour on the island until the next ferry so they could get ready for dinner. Again, not a huge issue, but it would not have been a big deal in my eyes to make the extra quick trip across the water. The rooms overall were very nice and comfortable. The spa center was absolutely incredible and the Thai masseuses were specially trained for their posts. One of the best experiences of my life! The water sports were lots of fun, and I loved the free wave runner time! Now onto the food... Most of the time, we ate at the Funa restaurant (the restaurant over the water) because the food and service was much better than at the Kaani restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic, and we even opted for the lobster dinner one night! Their menu was very broad and almost everyone could find something to eat. Considering where we were geographically, the quality was amazing. However, there is one thing that I did not enjoy, and yes (lol) it relates back to the water taxi. Typically, we would eat late and be the last ones at the restaurant. We were never on the last taxi, but when we would finish up to go back to the island (also where the staff stayed), all of the kitchen staff, bar tenders, and servers would also join us on the ride back. During the course of our stay, the staff was always incredibly friendly and helpful, but it did feel a bit awkward being surrounded by a bunch of the staff in a pitch black water taxi at night. Moving onto the snorkeling, (I’m very sorry if I botch his name) Ageel was very very nice! We did go on the Waleshark hunt and did catch a glimpse of one after many hours right as we were about to leave. He was very friendly and professional, and brought a great energy to trips. Above all, the coral was incredible and the best I’ve ever seen!!! One of the purposes of our trip was to see the coral before it, unfortunately, disappears due to increases in ocean temperature and inevitable sea level rise. The fish and organisms were also like nothing I have or probably will see again. The Atolls are unique because it creates a “shelf” or “wall” that goes staring down and all of the creatures swim and grow on the sides until you can no longer see the bottom! Speaking of fish, we were allowed to go on a late afternoon/evening fishing trip, which was awesome! The man in charge of fishing was a British Marine Biologists who also happened to be the DJ (more on that later), but was fun to talk to. However, it was clear that he was not liked by the rest of the hotel staff who were, for the most part, locals from the Maldives (and many of the were from the island right next door!) My father caught a fish, however it was protected by the Government as an endangered species. It was getting near the of the fishing trip and he still hadn’t caught anything, so one of the local Maldivian citizens offered to use his ability to take the fish (as I learned that the protection laws don’t apply to Maldivian citizens) and give it to him as a gift. However, this caused a lot of frictions and tension between the British man and the Maldivian man who spoke moderate English. The British man repeatedly yelled at the other hotel staff member “That’s endangered, throw it back! Throw it back!” This was kind of an skyward position for us, but we declined the fish and thanked the Maldivian man very much for trying to give us the fish, but we were already lucky enough to have caught one other, which we did enjoy the next day! I did previously mention that the British Marine Biologists was also the DJ, which was a lot of fun! When we got there, it was an absolute blast and we had a lot of fun with not only other guests from across Asia and Europe, but also some of the staff from Asia as they are allowed to interact with guests on a social level after hours. This was really fun, although I was pulled aside by one of the younger male Maldivian workers who I could also tell didn’t like the British man by the bar while ordering a libation. He (weirdly) asked me if I wanted to prank the British man and then asked me if I thought he was gay. I thought this was also a little weird and awkward, but I pinned it on the cultural differences and continued to have a good time. We also participated in soccer with the staff and karaoke night, which was a ton of fun! We attempted to take part in as much as possible as I know they work hard to put on these events. Lastly, when I was in the gift shop, I met a very nice Maldivian man who helped me mail a postcard back (It took four months lol) to where we lived and gave me several notes and coins of the Maldivian dollar, which was a very nice gesture and a cool collectors item! That was very nice. Final thoughts: Once again, considering where we were geographically and how remote it was, it was an absolutely incredible experience all around! The food was good, spa was amazing, nice people, incredible snorkeling, lots of fun activities, and interesting people from all over the world. For those wondering, I would say ~40% were Asian and the other 60% were European or Russian. This was very cool as I have never interacted with so many people from around the world at once without having any other Americans around and the same was true for them as many had never met any Americans before (I hope we made a good impression!). I highly recommend Angsana Velavaru with the small request that they make some changes to their water taxi and can ensure that their staff remain as professional as possible around guests, as I fully understanding the cultural and religious differences between the various groups. Thank you to everyone, especially our waiter who we had for almost every meal and did a great job! Stay safe during these crazy times! -Ben

Dear Ben, Thank you for taking the time to write an in-depth review of your experience staying with us. Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed a warm welcome. The journey to the island is indeed quite long, especially if traveling from the US. As you’ve mentioned, we don’t get as many guests from the Americas, as people there prefer to travel to Polynesia. However, every once in a while someone will land to the island, mostly to explore the vibrant and diverse nature, both over and underwater. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the InOcean experience and the comforts of the villas. What makes Angsana Velavaru special is its isolated location. Being a bit further from Male means cleaner waters and coast, less boat traffic, and no aircraft noise pollution. Being located in the South Nilandhe Atoll, our reefs have retained 60% live coverage. Thank you for recommending the daily complimentary guided snorkeling safari. It's a unique opportunity to explore the abundant biodiversity of our house reef. We would like to thank you once again for highlighting the good work of Ageel. We will certainly pass on your kind comments. At Angsana Velavaru, we take great pride in training our staff to deliver excellent service standards at all times. However, we were concerned to read your comments regarding the cultural differences and lack of communication between some of our associates. We will make sure to conduct refresher training in related areas. Our management team is also looking at the feedback on the speedboat transfer schedules. We, however, do insist on the schedule, as we don’t want too much boat traffic inside the lagoon. Your feedback is very much appreciated! Thank you once again for sharing the points, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon,

To start with, let me thank the entire team of Angsana Velavaru. I may not be able to recollect the names of many of them except for Mr. Sundeep from Kuredu Restaurant and the Manager of FnB dept, who were helpful for arranging all the wonderful Indian Cuisine throughout our stay. The food was really good especially Paneer Butter Masala which we had on the first day during dinner. We really didn't expect such an authentic Indian taste there. It really felt like “home away from home”. An Indian Chef who made amazing egg dishes at Kaani restaurant, Young lad Shahil from support at Kuredu, Mr.Rahim during breakfast at Kaani and all the Chefs from Kitchen who prepared those delicacies – Thank you so much for the wonderful service and food. The food was superb all throughout. Also, the ambience is so inviting that you just don’t want to leave the place for quite a time. The live music by Roxana and Artur during dinnertime made the ambience so lively. Poolside sitting under the stars with live music and lovely food with your love besides you is all that you need. They even had a Maldivian Night with dance and music, which made us aware of the traditional dance of Maldives. It was fun to watch. We stayed for 4N (2N in Beachfront Villa and 2N in In-Ocean Villa (IOV)). Even for the 2 nights, which we stayed in IOV, we came to Kuredu restaurant itself by jetty, just because we were sure that we would find good food, which offers Ala-carte menu. Since you need to order for your meals in advance and due to limited variety available in Azzuro restaurant, which is located in IOV and with the strict timings here, we did not risk of having food in Azzuro. I would say that Land Villa is for sure value for money and we really liked the service in Land Villa. Right from the reception to the house keeping staff. The access to private beach straight from our room, the sunrise and sunset, the pool area in land, the beach area everything was alluring. With this, I would also like to highlight the bad experiences, which we experienced in IOV starting with the service. 1. Room service in IOV is poor. The telephone, which the staff took with him due to some fault in it, was never returned back even after reminding about it. 2. Once, we had asked for clean cups for having our morning coffee since the one in the room were not clean. We waited for almost an hour with no cups made available at our room. Since, the timing of jetty to go to the land was strict, finally I had to run to the reception, took the cups from the restaurant, came back to the room in hurry so that we do not miss our jetty towards land for having breakfast. We were extremely disappointed with the service in IOV. 3. The sea area beneath the Sala was also not clean (attached screenshot). Due to this, we did not go and enjoy the sea from our water villa, which one would want to experience. We had snorkelling equipment with us, which you get once you pass a test. Although, I did do snorkelling activity once in which they take you at right place in the middle of the ocean and the experience was quite thrilling and miraculous. It is all together a different world. The fresh corals, the entire water species. To summarise and considering the price of IOV and the experience there, we found IOV unreasonable. So, it is better to stay in Land Villas. This was our first trip to Maldives as we were there for our honeymoon and we hope to visit there again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your Angsana moments with the world. We will certainly pass on your comments to Sundeep, Shahil and Rahim. Oksana and Arthur from Duendo Band have left to Ukraine, but we will send them your compliments. Glad to hear you enjoyed the activities, as well as the entertainment and local culture experience during the Bodu Beru night. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the beach experience and the comforts of the villa. Indeed the lagoon is one of a kind, with the 6-kilometer house reef surrounding it. Thank you for recommending the daily complimentary guided snorkeling safari. It's a unique opportunity to explore the abundant biodiversity of our house reef. However, I would also like to thank you for providing us with the feedback on the service in some areas that has been clearly noted for immediate review and follow up, and please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused as there should be no excuses for not being able to deliver the service we have promised. At Angsana Velavaru, we take great pride in training our staff to deliver excellent service standards at all times. However, we were concerned to read your comments. We will make sure to conduct refresher training in related areas. We will also work with Marine Centre team to do a check of the reef surface beneath InOcean Villas to make sure this experience is not repeated. Once again, thank you for visiting the island. Please do feel free to contact us anytime if there is anything Angsana Velavaru team could assist or more comments and suggestions to be shared. We are happy to see that you had a great holiday and we are looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future! Best regards from the sunny Maldives!

We are not big fan of huge mega infrastructures and if you are like us, this is the best place to go. The beach-villas are wonderful and the services provided are high. A special thank you to Hatim who made our 15 days trip even better. Everything was perfect :) and will definitely come back

Excellent stay. Water villa 363 has both sunset and sunrise due to its perfect location. Highly private. The villa is huge with larger pool and marine life is better than any other resort. Staffs are genuine while looking after you. Shout out to Adhuham from housekeeping who kept my larger villa spotless. Food is extremely reasonable priced and high quality. The cheese cake as desert is the best I ever had. This hotel is worth the time and have the best value for money.
