Very much enjoyed our stay here.  The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed.  There were some issues in the beginning but they were dealt with professionally and quickly by the management on site.  We stayed for a week and got to know and appreciate some of the staff members very well.  These are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.  Thank you Karen and Naofel at reception for knowing your business and getting it exactly right.  Thank you Sebastian for checking up on us to see if everything was to our satisfaction.  Thank you Zuhair and Shaaman for your excellent service and attention to detail and for sometimes knowing what we wanted before we knew it ourselves, you are so good at your jobs.  And finally a VERY SPECIAL mention and thank you Al Mamum for coming out to greet us every morning and for your kindness.  We will miss your lovely smile.  It is thanks to people like you that we will never forget this place and we will certainly return. I hope your managers realise and appreciate what valuable assets you are to the success of this place. In a part of the world with many, many nice places to stay, it is thanks to you that people keep returning to the same one.

Had stayed here 9 years and decided it was time for a revisit!!! The resort itself is spectacular but the rooms were as they were 9 years ago and definitely need a revamp the bed springs were bent and uncomfortable and I think some basic revamping will make a huge difference besides that the service and staff were incredible kudos to Sunil and Sandeep who were both par excellent. Breakfast was sadly v v disappointing needs to be sorted. Food was a touch and go the steaks were phenomenal but the rest of the food max 5/10 and for what they charge they have to do much better. Besides that a very pleasant relaxing holiday.

Thank you once again for choosing our island as your Maldives family holiday destination. Your support and compliments to the team are very much appreciated. We will certainly pass on your comments to Sunil and Sundeep. However, we would also like to thank you for providing us with the feedback on the service in some areas that has been clearly noted for immediate review and follow up, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused as there should be no excuses for not being able to deliver the service we have promised. In the hospitality industry, there is no better way to improve but listen to the needs and suggestions from guests because it is all about the experience. We will keep up what has been achieved and continue to strive for creating better and better moments for anyone who stays on the island. Once again, thank you for visiting the island. Please do feel free to contact us anytime if there is anything Angsana Velavaru team could assist or more comments and suggestions to be shared. We hope next time when you plan to come back to the Maldives, you might consider Angsana Velavaru again as your destination. Best regards from the sunny Maldives!

We had the most amazing stay at our honeymoon at Angsana Velavaru. Since we arrived at the airport, we didn’t do anything. They managed all the stuff about our transport from airport to resort. They are very professional, really kind people and always help you with everything. There is nothing I could rebuke, maybe a bit dirty stairs to the roof, but that was just a tiny little thing and it didn’t bother us at all. The food was also amazing! I would definitely go back there if I could!

For the fourth time on the island. We feel right at home. The friendliness is unsurpassed. The dive centre deserves special mention. The guides, always in a good mood, organise everything. They solve all questions and possible problems professionally. It is luxury diving, you practically don't have to worry about anything. Everything is organised. Between the two dives there are always two fruit skewers and water. The diving paradises are well chosen. You feel safe and can just enjoy. The staff recognise us immediately and you are received in an extremely friendly manner. The service and helpfulness is top notch. They literally read your wishes from your eyes. We love the bungalow with the indoor pool. We have booked again for next year and are looking forward to the island again.

I’m an extensive traveller but am not someone who usually posts reviews, but this particular resort I felt was completely mis-sold and misrepresented which is why I’m taking the time to elucidate fellow travellers on what to truly expect here. I have been to Maldives over a dozen times including 4 times in the last 6 months – to various different resorts from 4* through to 5* ultra-luxury. Additionally I have stayed in several banyan tree and angsana properties around the world as I usually love the brand and the hospitality they offer – I even stayed previously at the Banyan Tree Vibbinfaru which was excellent. The angsana velavaru was priced and pitched as a 5* resort – not ultraluxury but certainly a high standard of core services, hygiene and facilities. To start with, we stayed in two adjacent rooms an infinity beach front villa and a regular beachfront villa. It seems that all the positive reviews on this resort I had received, even from my friends, were from the water villa part of the resort – these are essentially two completely different resorts with separate teams, standards and services. My comments below pertain to the beachfront property. SAFETY, SECURITY AND HYGIENE This was the first absolute shocker. We are in the midst of a pandemic and the standard of hygiene was completely unacceptable. Upon checking into our villa, we found an ashtray full of cigarette butts, an empty soap dispenser, a womans hairclip in the shower and later even a long hair in the kettle (before we even had a chance to use it). In such times that we are in now, the standard of hygiene in all resorts is expected (and has been everywhere else) much higher than usual and I haven’t been able to fault it even in 4 star properties. However it was clear on this island that hygiene is not a priority at all. When I raised these issues to the management along with sharing pictures, the response was very relaxed and the same incompetent housekeeping (newly joined) staff came back to rectify the mistakes rather than sending a more senior member of the housekeeping team. To add to this, I had an upset stomach for most of our 5 day stay and only realised on day 4 that this is due to the quality of the treated island water that they give you to drink in the rooms – I am very used to treated water as am a mountaineer and have a strong stomach when it comes to water. I have never had an issue with water in any other of the 12+ resorts I have stayed in the Maldives, but the water on this island is definitely not to a suitable level of hygiene. When I changed exclusively to bottled water this improved. Its not surprising seeing their standard of hygiene in general. Security is poor. Theft is very common to the extent that when you check in they make you sign a disclaimer that any theft from our villa is our problem! It’s as if they are simply giving a green light for theft amongst your possessions. The door leading outdoors from our villa to the beach could be opened from outside even when fully locked because the lock is secured poorly to the glass – therefore you think you have locked your room and are safe, but in effect one can still open the door. When we informed them of this, once again the response was very relaxed. There is no life guard or safety by the main pool on the island at any time of day! Moreover the water activities centre told us that even if we get caught in a current or are near drowning if we take out a paddle board etc, they will NOT be coming to rescue us or help bring us back! SAFETY?? Non-existent. Beware if you are travelling with small kids. This element was unbelievable for us as even the most basic of resorts are mindful of this. FOOD, HOSPITALITY AND SERVICE The hospitality was minimal and not at all to the standard you expect from the Banyan tree group. We had repeatedly made requests well ahead of time to be located on the side of the island away from the jetty and facing out towards the sea and reef and not facing the lagoon. We had contacted the management about this and even our travel agent was involved. Upon arrival, we were located right next to the jetty and ‘sold’ that we have the most desirable location on the island since the villas on the other side was all facing ‘the dead reef’ – exact words of the island manager!! If we wanted to move our two villas would be far from each other. The location really was quite terrible with a cargo boat anchored in front of our villa as our only view throughout the stay. We had also informed them ahead of time that we are celebrating a birthday during the stay but this was completely ignored. Compared to the other issues, I couldn’t care less about that. The Food quality was that of a 3 or 4 star resort. Over salted, oily and poor quality. The service was even worse at the sit down restaurant – wrong food delivered, the right order given to the wrong table, food pre-ordered 2-3 hours beforehand still requiring over an hour to serve once at the restaurant, waiting 45+ mins just to get served water upon arrival…all these and more were part of the routine dining experience. ALL INCLUSIVE ACTIVITIES We were on the play package which gives you $350 credit per day to use on the island. Several water activities are presented as available on the island beforehand, but in reality the vast majority of them don’t even exist. The ones that are available, are typically discouraged as the area in front of the water sports centre attracts a lot of current and due to the fact that there is no emergency rescue in case an issue does arise, they warn you several times to reconsider before doing any of the activities. The jetski they are very happy for you to use when booked for you and they accommodate this activity very effectively and someone even comes out with you. PLEASE NOTE THAT MOST OF THE REEF AROUND THE ISLAND IS DEAD! The snorkling was sadly some of the worst I have seen in the Maldives and even the complimentary snorkling boat which takes you to the only real living reef on the island, was cancelled most of the days we were on the island. After spending $500 each for the seaplane to come far away from the main island, to be faced with a dead reef this was very disappointing. SPA This is the main redeeming quality of the island. The spa is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING – maybe even one of the best in the world, and I have been to many, many spas in my lifetime. I could not recommend this spa enough. Just make sure you book the treatments well ahead of your arrival as they fill up completely. My friend who joined us in the second villa could barely get in any treatments because he hadn’t booked before arrival. FEEDBACK When we raised the issues we faced with the management, they didn’t have much to say at all! Apart from the fact that they apparently weren’t prepared for a busy season and didn’t have trained staff and their training manager resigned and they didn’t have one on the island!! I don’t understand how that is any form of justification for the way our stay was handled and managed. They actually didn’t offer any other explanations even for the hideous standard of hygiene and safety. They don’t even have a resort manager as such and only a front office manager who came to see us only a few hours before we were leaving the resort – clearly with no intention to make our stay better despite us raising very valid concerns throughout. They have 2 sister properties in the Maldives as part of the same hotel group. If they have any training issues they should turn to their sister properties and not just expect their guests to pay 5* prices and receive 2-3* experience. I would only consider this property if you are planning a spa holiday and the spa is definitely worth it if you can accept the lack of hygiene, security, food quality and service. I still feel there are so many better options at similar or better price points in the Maldives. The water villas I can’t comment on, but I have only heard good things about them. The beach island, I would definitely not recommend anyone to stay and instead look at the better options available in the Maldives.

Thank you very much for choosing Angsana Velavaru to celebrate your return trip to this beautiful country. We are really glad to hear that you enjoyed the services of the award-winning Angsana Spa. However, we would also like to thank you for providing us with the feedback on the service in some areas that have been clearly noted for immediate review and follow up, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused as there should be no excuses for not being able to deliver the service we have promised. At Angsana Velavaru, we take great pride in training our staff to deliver excellent service standards at all times. However, we were concerned to read your comments. We will make sure to conduct refresher training in the related areas. We have done a major renovation recently and are concerned to know that the cleanliness of the villa was not to our standard. We do take the cleanliness of our villas very seriously and adhere to our strict cleaning policies at all times. We are glad to hear our front office manager was there to assist with your concerns.
