Hidden down a country lane, just 100 metres from the coastline in the friendly village of Santubong, The Village House offers the tranquility and service that most travellers crave. A stones throw away are the eco tourism hot spots of Mt. Santubong and Kuching Wetlands National Parks as well as the Important Bird Area of Bako-Buntal Bay, so activities abound. The traditional rooms around an internal pool courtyard are decorated with local materials and Sarawak handicrafts. This together with the caring staff ensure that you enjoy the local style and warm hospitality for which Sarawak is famous. To ensure maximum privacy, the property is reserved exclusively for in-house guests and only welcomes guests above the age of 12. Day visitors are required to pre-arrange their escorted visits. The kitchen offers a delectable menu complete with a wide range of drinks and culinary delights. This means that all you need to do is to kick back and enjoy a serenely peaceful getaway.

📍 The Village House, Santubong The Village House is the perfect getaway in the midst of Sarawak’s pristine forests. Surrounded by towering trees and lush greens, nature-lovers will find themselves immersed in the best of what Sarawak has to offer. 🌸 🍃 Picture waking up to the pattering of raindrops, coupled with the ringing of crickets, while breathing in cool fresh air. Or sipping on freshly-squeezed watermelon juice by the beautifully designed infinity pool. The Sarawakian vernacular designs and architecture are so well thought of, it exudes an authentic Bornean jungle feel. 🌺 Nestled at the foothills of Mount Santubong, The Village House is only a 40-minute drive out of Kuching, and a stones throw away from Pantai Puteri Santubong. Consisting only of 10 suites, this exclusive resort is no doubt one of Kuching’s finest hidden gems; one not to be missed. 🚙 *Travel Tip -Come on weekdays, as weekends are always FULLY booked. Michelle and I came on a weekday, and we had the pool to ourselves most of the time! It was such a sublime experience 😃 -Prices range from Rm60+/person (dorm-style), Rm 290+ for the Village Double Suite, to Rm 600+ for the Rajah Suite. -It’s a straight-forward simple drive. Use Waze, and you’d be there in 40 minutes from Kuching 😃 For the best deals, book directly with them. Call 082-846166 or Whatsapp +6012 8890880 for bookings 🌼

It's really a nice place.. Quiet and calming. Although I personally think that it cost more than it offers but since it is considered a boutique Inn, it's OK for us since we were kinda desperate looking for a weekend gateway lol. The atmosphere is very chill.. The room is small. No TV. If you wish to watch TV you have to go to the library.. More like a small living room on the 2nd floor of main building but no privacy since you have to share with other guests. First come first serve. You came first you control the channel lol. They have a pretty cool rustic looking reading corner.. Which they called it as a library. Insta worthy too. The room is pretty warm during the noon. I advice you not to linger in your bedroom esp during noon otherwise you won't feel the aircond and it's pretty hot. Food selection is not much but it is nicely cooked. I love the Nasi Goreng. If you love spicy food, this is more than adequate level of spicy lol. They're pretty generous with the breakfast. We love it. Never had the chance to swim in the pool. It looks pretty shallow. If you're looking for a place to stay but not expecting too much, this is a nice place. Enjoy your stay!

The pool is very nice, relaxing and fresh. The place was quiet as we were the only customers but with a big group around, it may be noisy as all activities are around the pool and all rooms are located above the pool. Also, please note there is a mosque next door so be ready for an early wake up call! We were very disappointed by the food as there was very little choice (this could be linked to the pandemic) and what we were served was expensive but not good. Service was low, we felt we were not given much attention.

We had the most enjoyable staycation at this well appointed beautiful property tucked away in Santubong. Felt totally relaxed in the lush green & flora, clean spacious room (we took the Putera), great hospitality and chilled by the pool. Staff are attentive and welcoming. In the morning we rode on their bikes, first towards the village crossing Sg tekoyong, and looped around back to Lorong Pantai Puteri towards the beach approx. 7km. Highly recommend to take their bikes. Arrived back at hotel for breakfast and another dip in the pool before check out. Real gem.

The Village House at Santubong embraced me with a tranquil outdoor and healthy environment. The boutique hotel with its colourful & artistic scenery and pool area is located at a stone trow of the authentic fishermen village and beach of Kampung Santubong. The numerous little waterfalls surrounded me with the peace of mind to relax, enjoy today and pick up a book.

I found myself stranded here at the Village House as the only guest during the Covid-19 outbreak, when gov lock down began. The kind owner of the village house allowed me to stay on in this lovely quiet location whilst I waited to get my flight back home. I ended up staying a month. The location of Santubong is a quiet and friendly small village just outside of the city Kuching. I was allowed out to walk locally on the wonderful beach (although you cant swim) and walks into the national forest up Santubong mountain. I spent most of my days relaxing in the pool or working online. The internet connection wasn't great, but sufficed just enough. Although the staff were excellent in cleaning the rooms, it did become a bit frustrating that our communication didn't always work well and I found that the choice of food became very limited. Perhaps outside of Covid-19, food would have been fine? it is a very beautiful property in design, full of peace and relaxation. There is a pretty garden to wander in, lovely designed rooms. I ended up staying in a dorm room which was very affordable and just as comfortable as the standard rooms. The property is about a 2 min walk to the beach/sea. Although you wont be able to swim there due to crocodiles unfortunately. However, there is a lovely pool, so perhaps not so necessary.

We stayed during the last week of December, so we enjoyed the Christmas decorations in the tropics. The staff are very helpful and nice. The small bar and restaurant offers some tasty meals and drinks. The internet is only accessible near the lobby area, which may be problem if you need connectivity in your room.

We booked this accommodation through Booking.com for a two night stay at the beach with our two children. We arrived at the property, on my birthday, to a very hostile greeting. One member of staff looked at us when we arrived in the taxi in disgust and walked away while another male member of staff watched me and my two young daughters struggle over gravel and steps with our suitcases. On entering the premises we were told we could not stay there as our children are under twelve. This, we later discovered, is in the incredibly small, small print of the booking. It was not clear at all at the time of booking. The owner refuses to refund any of the accommodation fee despite Booking.com saying it is at his discretion. Beware families, this property discriminates against children who want to play on the beach!

Response from maridontreks, Owner at The Village House
Responded Aug 18, 2019
Dear Janine First of all please accept our deepest regrets and apologies over our seemingly 'hostile' greeting on your arrival. As true players in our local hospitality industry, being hostile is completely out of our equation and we sincerely apologise if any of our team member came across as carrying this unbecoming behaviour. Our policy of not accepting children below the age of 12 is primarily due to safety and security reasons. The Village House was not built nor customised to meet children's needs and the many risks factors present compelled us to adopt this policy from our inception. Following your feedback, we have taken measures to ensure this clause is in even larger bolder prints than before. Being an extremely small property every single booking contributes to our sustainability. In light of this and although our booking policy clearly spells our our non refundable conditions, allow us the opportunity to accord you and your spouse a complimentary 2 nights stay on your next visit here in the coming year. Kindly drop us an email to secure this offer in goodfaith. On behalf of our team, we wish you happy travels for the rest of the year and look forward to the opportunity to extend our true hospitality to you one day. Thank you.
