As my first trip to Kota Kinabalu, my aunt had booked a room here at this hotel as she arrived here first. Since I was coming to visit, she had requested for a bigger room and asked if they had a discount if she upgraded. Unfortunately no. So I had met up with my family a few days later late at night from another trip with friends. My first impression was this hotel was located in a dank looking mall. Furthermore, upon getting ready for bed, the sheets were gross and stained, the pillows were yellow and ants were climbing on the wall where my tiny twin sized bed was up against. I literally could not sleep as some got onto the bed sheets, mind you its almost 1am. The next morning, I found a few ants climbing on my suit case as well. Being disgusted by this, I insist we move out immediately. I had gone online and booked a nicer room at the Ming Garden. We tried to get a refund since my aunt had pre-paid in advance for the nights I was visiting. They would not do anything for us, they said if there were bugs to call room service. Honestly, I don't think they would understand this but when there are ant's, MORE will come. And what? You're gonna have the maid spray RAID next to my bed at 2am? That smell of bug spray probably isn't good to inhale. They looked at us like we were being too much or too extra but honestly, we're from the USA and I haven't stayed in such an unsanitary hotel before. Not even in the Philippines. What is really frustrating is they wouldn't give my aunt a refund. They could only offer her credit to stay at a later date. This would never fly or be alright in the USA. Very disappointing in the service. Just beware! This was terrible service in my honest opinion and the Ants! I had to check everything in the new hotel as some ants got into my suitcase. DISGUSTING. BEWARE. DON'T STAY HERE. Photos are also false advertising of the deluxe room. The walls were cracking, the floors were warping....just beware.…
The deluxe room was very basic. Just a little bit upgrade would be good enough. Receptionist was courteous, located nearby waterfront where most happening bars are located at, not to forget the walking-distance Filipino market. Lot of eateries nearby and Centre Point Mall was just opposite the hotel. Anyway something to look at - the water heater malfunctioned and the bathroom was not that clean. If these two can be catered, then all is good. Had a good sleep, loved the pillows. Thank you.
The best part of this motel stops at the check in desk. The staff are very friendly, unfortunately the amenities are broken down and not well maintained. Repeated requests to fix the toilet were not fulfilled and cleaning of the room was hit and miss. Recommend a wide berth be given
Our bathroom was not cleaned properly before we checked in. We saw hair from previous guests all over the bathroom floor, water heater doesn't work, furniture not installed properly (bedside light, shower door, wardrobe). We requested late check out (on a Monday because our boat from the island was running late). They can only accommodate until 1pm, after that they charged late check out of RM30 per hour. The only positive thing about it is the strategic location. Stay elsewhere if you have option.
Someone introduced suggested me to stay in this hotel because of its location. Stay in for 2 nights for a business trip. I arrived late and was surprised that there was only on receptionist a.k. technician etc. at the counter Need to give RM50 deposit. I was told to walk out of the lobby to an open area (not part of the hotel), walk up some staircases and would find a lift. The lift was dirty but functional. Need to use the access card to open the door to the rooms aisle. If you are unlucky, the access card malfunction and you need to go back to the receptionist to get the card authorized. My room supposed to be non-smoking room but.....It smelled like a smoking cubicle. No sound proof. At least my room had window facing the sea (partial view) and roof from adjacent building. Toilet very basic and not clean. Unfortunate of me, on the first night there was no water in the washroom from almost two hours, snd was told that the whole floor was effected. The receptionist a.k. plumber, technician etc. fixed it up. Later, the water supply was back and good pressure. Breakfast...need to get a coupon from the receptionist every morning and request breakfast (limited choice) at an Indian stall beside the lobby. The advantage of staying here is the location - walking distance to the Filipino market, malls and 7 eleven.…
