We stayed in the old wing of this hotel for 6 nights in 2015 part of a journey around Borneo and Malaysia. It was a pleasure to stay here, we cannot fault the service, catering or room. Breakfast was a pleasure such a last variety of foods. We booked a suite as we wanted a balcony well worth the money

My wife and I spent a highly enjoyable 10-night stay in a Deluxe Sea View Suite in the Heritage Wing. The suite was quite spacious and well-appointed. The room was very clean except for being dusty in two less accessible spots: the cupboard top and under the king bed. There were a few minor signs of wear e.g., the cupboard light...

This hotel markets itself as a classic Colonial era gem. No matter how good it may have been in the past our experience was very disappointing highlighted by poor service. We wanted a two night stopover to experience firsthand Georgetown and its street food. We arrived late in the evening after a lengthy journey. We were directed to the wrong...

We stayed for three days at this property. The location is the best for Georgetown. ( 40 mins taxi ride from the airport). We pretty much could walk to most sites in the area. The staff were very courteous and helpful and the free breakfast was superb. Stayed at the Victory Annexe ( newer wing) well appointed room and large...

Stayed here for four nights just before Christmas. The hotel is slightly further away from the centre of George Town, which could be a problem for some people. There are a couple of restaurants, we only ate breakfast which was the extensive buffet style found in these types of Malaysian hotels. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. My partner...

My husband and I have just spent 6 wonderful nights in a Deluxe Suite in the Heritage Wing. The room was extremely spacious, over looked the ocean, pool and extermely comfortable. The coffee machine, complimentary fresh fruits and soft drinks were greatly appreciated. We also joined the yoga classes and booked in for the hotel's cooking class. The chefs were...

As usual the E & O did not fail to impress. From the personal greeting and explanations on arrival by the concierge Nina to the friendly "hello" and "good morning or afternoon" by all the Eastern and Oriental staff you are made to feel welcome and special. This time we stayed in the Victory Annexe. Andrew, Mickey and all the...

We stayed at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel, in Penang for 8 days, which included the Chinese New Year. We had a beautiful and comfortable room overlooking the bay. The service at the hotel was second to none. Staff were always helpful and cheerful, providing advice and useful suggestions of what to visit and where to eat. In the early...

The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient. ... more   less
