One of the nicest hotels we have ever been in, full of character. Worth upgrading to the heritage suite with sea view, the room with a room feels very 'old worldy'. Staff are friendly and they pay attention to the small details. I am Malaysian and proud that we have this world class gem here in the heart of Penang....

My family and I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay for a night at the oldest hotel in Penang. Our room was located at the Victory Annexe wing, which had a swimming pool and a dining area of its own, in addition to the existing pool and cafe at the old wing. As the hotel guests, we were given complementary...

I just left three days ago. I think about it everyday. The rooms in the Heritage Wing will talk to you. It did me. Such history and charm and style. The grounds are calm, no beach at all but 2 pools. Always felt taken care of in every way. I did dine here, drank here and swim like a fish...

Spacious, clean and friendly. However we were rather disappointed by the size of the tv in the room. The bedroom windows were larger than the tv screen! Buffet breakfast spread is awesome. You will be spoilt for choice.

This is a big colonial hotel that sets you back in time. There is a main house and an annexe, the new part. The annexe is kept in the same grand colonial style as the main house. Covered verandahs, wooden floors and high ceilings, spacious rooms and a big bathroom with two separate basins, a big walk-in shower and a...

We recently spent four weeks at the E & O. Our fifth time staying at this wonderful hotel. We stayed on the 12th floor of the Victory Annexe. The room beautifully appointed and spotless with every request of the cleaning staff carried out cheerfully and without delay, and that view...to die for. Cocktail hour at the Planters Lounge was very...

Felt very decadent splurging here. An old school charm made it extra plush - an unexpected surprise was the night turn down service! Decent gym facilities, evening canapes and drinks in the lounge, buffet breakfast and polite service made for a fantastic stay.

My wife and I stayed in the Heritage wing, which was absolutely superb in all respects. Our room, cheapest available, had views over the local petrol station but we were able to shut that out to enjoy a beautifully set-up suite. Bathroom was amazing in size and services. The hotel pool was a peaceful haven, compared with the infinity pool...

We stayed 4 days in the historical wing (room 326), the suite was gorgeous, spaceful, elegant, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had a fantastic time at E&O. The high quality of service from all staff and the location made it a very memorable visit to Georgetown. I highly recommend to visit this historic property.

The opportunity to stay in a historic hotel in the heart of an historic town was one I didn't want to miss - and I was not disappointed. We stayed in the heritage wing and were fortunate enough to be given an upgrade to a suite - lovely albeit we didn't use the lounge area - the ambience of the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient. ... more   less
