At first we were hesitant about booking this hotel as we had heard reports of excessive noise coming from the nightclubs across the street. We were assured by the booking staff that if we asked for a seafront upper floor room we would not be bothered by the noise. We were still dubious as booking such a room is always...

Visited Penang for a 11 night stay at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel and wasn't disappointed. If you enjoy old colonialism at its best, stay in the Heritage Wing as we did. We had a premiere suite on the ground floor with French doors onto our own little patio with table and chairs and views over the Malacca Straits. A...

The hotel is certainly grand! The check in was fast and well organised. Not all rooms are front facing. There are a few rooms on each floor that face the road as was ours but it still had sea views, but was noisy sitting on the balcony. With the doors shut though there was no in room noise. Loved though...

I have stayed in the victory studio for 2 nights. overall is up to expectation. You have 2 options for breakfast (continental and international buffets) both is very good, vast selections. Pool side is a GEM spot that you can totally let go yourself from a busy city life!

Staying in this stately hotel feels like stepping into the colonial past without having to give up the modern amenities that one associates with a top notch hotel. We stayed in the new wing and got a nice view of the straits. The rooms are very spacious and makes you feel like nobility befitting the illustrious history of this hotel....

This hotel is the most beautiful hotel ever. So beautiful kept. We celebrated our daughter's 30th and the staff were so amazing and accomodating to every single request to make it a special day for her.The high tea is a must. Deliciously small sweet and savoury food fit for a king. Absolutely loved our stay there. Will definitely be back.

This review is more about the staff than the hotel - although the hotel is beautiful in all it's colonial glory. My Mum and I were supposed to stay at the E&O for just 4 nights. I ended up staying for 4 weeks. During breakfast of the first full day of our trip my Mum was taken ill, was rushed...

The hotel has one of the best colonial exterior and interior in Penang. The room I stayed, Annex Suite, is very nicely designed, spacious, and comfortable equipped with everything you need. I especially love the pools; both of the pools. The one on the 6th floor is modern with infinity edge and the one at the old wing has its...

The staff were so helpful! We stayed in the Heritage Wind and loved the whole decor! At the ground floor, sometimes a pianist was playing piano and it made us feel relaxed. Pretty much everything we loved... If you love swimming or chilling at a pool side, you must go to both of the Heritage Wing pool and the new...

The location is not near the heart of the city. The guests would have to take a taxi to if you would like to dine and shop in the city. The rooms are so comfortably decorated with good taste. The breakfast in the hotel is magnificent and the Malaysian food there is authentic and of good taste.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient. ... more   less
