Again my wife and were in Penang and of cause we stayed at this Yeng Keng hotel, the staffs still remembered us and we felt like they were truely happy to see us again, they were very attentive and friendly. We love the small swimming pool and tried to spend time there. The food is excellent, the best Penang can... More

We did not have the pleasure of staying at this heritage hotel, but the lunch offering were simply delicious. The chicken pie is like on steroid, very good including the Alaskan Bomb dessert. Totally sinful with no regrets. The Hainanese Chicken Rice is also worth the try.

We came over from Kuala Lumpur and stayed at Yeng Keng for 3 nights to explore the heritage city. Yeng Keng is a gem within the city. It has a nice pool and nice courtyard and nice linear garden. It has added airconditioning to the lobby where it is nice to sit to read in a hot afternoon. For the... More

Yeng Keng is located on Chulia street and is walkable to many places. The staff were knowledgeable and super friendly and was willing to go out of their way to help us. They have refreshments out at front for all guests and breakfast is included right next to the hotel in the cafe. The breakfast variety is great, ranging from... More

Yeng Keng Hotel is located along Chulia Street and bus 101 runs along that road. Bus 101 is -the- bus to take you around the sights of Penang, even to Batu Feringghi. It's very convenient, with a laundro-mat nearby (not that I used it) Friendly & helpful staff. Nice, clean modern toilet. There is a small pool to chill out... More

The staff very friendly and helpful.Very neat and clean hotel(except for a few ants in the room). The food in the restaurant was delicious especially the Mee-memak and the mango salad.Location great if you like lots of traffic and skipping between the dirty food spills on Chulia Rd.In general all the roads are extremely busy and its difficult to cross the... Our family decided to have a short escape to Penang during the Chinese New Year. This time we wanted something different, so instead of choosing a resort, we opted for a small hotel in the middle of the old town. We chose Yeng Keng Hotel because it has good rating and reviews. We wanted a family room but it was... More

Beautiful hotel ambiance, nice, soft, comfortable bed, extremely friendly and welcoming staff, sufficient parking, and clean rooms. Staff helped us book a table at the restaurant even though it was not necessary for them to do so. Breakfast was so-so, but as Penang is a food haven, we went out for local food afterward, so no complaints on that end.

Nice environment and great location. Receptionist was very helpful and thoughtful for my mum. Breakfast included however not so great as expected - especially the temperature of the food. However...thanks for the great moment.

This is twin-level (Gr & 1st floors) heritage hotel. Front office staff helpful. Room clean. Basic amenities provided by hotel. Wi-Fi good. Generally quiet during nighttime. Located not far from street art sites and night market. Traditional door key unlocking system. So make sure someone is inside the room or ensure you bring along the door key whenever leaving the... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Yeng Keng Hotel is a 20-room restored heritage boutique hotel located in one of the oldest surviving and intact 19th-century buildings at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town, Penang. Like many of the other buildings in the neighbourhood, it was originally built in the mid 1800's as a private residence. The Anglo Indian bungalow belonged initially to Shaik Eusoffe bin Shaik Latiff an Indian Muslim family and remains unique in Chulia Street for not being relegated to the rear of a row of shop-houses blocking its facade. In 1897 trustees of the Cantonese Club 'Ying Han Pit Shu' bought the building on behalf of the association, later donating it to the trustees of the Straits Chinese Building Association in 1939. The building was later leased to Yeng Keng Hotel. The conversion from a residence into a budget hotel was the prevailing trend along the street at the beginning of the 20th century. Small places of lodgings that were conveniently reached from the harbour were in great demand as the traffic in the port grew. An impressive traditional Chinese entrance gate was constructed announcing entry to the 'Lodging House,' adding grandeur to the commercial establishment and to distinguish it from the rest of the buildings on the street. Conservation and upgrading by the present owner, Hoo Kim Properties Sdn Bhd, was undertaken in March 2009 with the renewed Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010. ... more   less
