Travelers' Choice
Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island located three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia along the Straits of Malacca. This piece of paradise has been 2 million years in the making, and here you will find one of the world's premier resorts nestling in the shade of forest giants as old as the land. You will find no other resorts - just secluded bays curled around pristine beaches, evening skies woven with colour, and a deep sense of serenity reserved exclusively for our guests. A combination of luxury, natural beauty and age-old wilderness woven together to produce an environment where peace and magically memorable moments are the currency. Of the island's 300 acres, only a fraction has been developed to house the Resort and its eight Estates. Wooden buildings blend seamlessly into the forest as if nature had been the architect dictating how walls curve around foliage, and roofs open up to allow trees to continue on their journey to the sky. Nature is respected here, almost revered, and it rewards visitors in ways that simply need to be experienced.

Other reviews here are spot on but missed a few points. For the price you pay per night, the 15 minute shuttle ferry here and back is not included. PLR charges you RM320++ for that. Parking for your car is not included. You take care of that on your own at a public car park space for RM 20 to 25 per day. Breakfast is included for each day of stay from the second day onwards (as per any regular hotel). You can arrange for a private dinner at the beach or 'the rock' for RM 1000++ for a 5 course meal. Watersports options are limited and fishing excursions are prohibitively expensive. See picture. The gym has a benchpress apparatus and sufficient plates. They were rusty so I requested that they get cleaned and polished before I used them the next morning. I was happy that this was promptly done. The restaurants are decent, serving local and western fare. Uncle Lim's serves Nyonya cuisine at prices 10x anything you would pay at the mainland and double of any 5 star hotel in Kuala Lumpur. See picture. We took the Full-board meal package at RM 150 per pax per day which covers lunch and dinner at our choice of the four restaurants. Our dinner at the Feast Village restaurant was fair. Portions were small but sufficient. I've included the dinner menu in the pictures. On the upside, Chapman's Bar at the beach and Royal Bay beach restaurant has happy hour prices at 50% discount for house pouring wines, spirits and beer from in the evenings. See picture. Bottled water is free at the beach. Below is a record of our dining experience at PLR. I'd like to remind you that my opinion is relative to what we paid for the meals. Day 1 dinner. Feast Garden @ 7:25pm Service is warm, friendly and prompt. Creamy mushroom soup was not creamy. Ceasar salad was sad. Tomato soup was pretty good. Beef brisket and grilled sea bass was acceptable. 'Gone bananas' desert had 5 small slices of banana and barely any peanuts. We were thoroughly misled by the name. Day 2 breakfast. Feast Garden @9:00am Wait staff Masum assigned to our table. He was was prompt, friendly, and courteous despite the crowd. Smiling broadly and sincerely every time he is at our table. Seated at the beach side, we were greeted by a pair of hornbills looking for a snack. We were served some coffee, fruits, and pastry as starters. I'm hungry. The pre-cooked meal sets took over 20 minutes to arrive at our table which is messing up my schedule. I might not be able to go to the gym before our spa session at 11:30am Sunny side up eggs were burnt at the bottom, hash browns were overcooked and oily. We asked for the eggs to be replaced which took another 15 minutes. Sigh... at least the cherry tomatoes with basil were good. Day 2 lunch. Royal Bay @ 2:00pm Service by Vije and Mages is accommodating, friendly, and prompt. They have their own quirky style and can throw in some jokes which is lovely. We ordered the flash fried squid in flaky batter, beef burger, and wok fried vermicelli. Burger was prepared well and tasted juicy. It was nestled between fresh tomato slices, romaine, and a sesame bun that is on the sweeter side which gave perfect balance to the bovine flavours. The missus claims that the vermicelli was close to perfect. I'll take her word for it as she eats that dish quite often. Thank you Chef Nizam, you made our tongues and tummies very happy. Thank you for also sparing time to have some light conversation with me about burgers. Day 2 dinner. Uncle Lim's Kitchen @6:30 The restaurant has a minimalist oriental design with big walking spaces which we liked because it gave us a relaxing feel. We enjoyed the view from the beachside booths. Vije is the supervisor here this evening and took our orders. The prices on the menu are very very steep so it was fortunate that we took the full board package. We ordered the 'lor bak', fish maw soup, beef rendang, and soft-shell crabs. Small portions, tasted okay, unimpressive. See pictures. Day 3 breakfast. Feast village @9:00am Ordered the 2 classic breakfast meals and 3 servings of siu mai. Masum was our server once more and we were happy to have him. Day 3 lunch. Royal Bay Beach Restaurant They owed us 4 dishes because on day 2 at lunch and dinner, they mistook our package as the residents package which only consists of 2 course meals as opposed to our full board meal plan which is a 3 course meal. Mages was very apologetic regarding the mistake and allowed me to order 2 mains as opposed to 3 appetizers, 1 main and 3 desserts each. It still wouldn't quite make up for our package but I didnt want to order anything else. Sharon ordered a mocktail as replacement. He even threw in a bottle of wine for the error which really surprised us. It is great to see the level of empowerment given to the staff to keep their customers happy. This man has high standards for his restaurant and big expectations of his crew. PLR would do well to keep him. Sharon ordered prawn rolls, vege burger, and leng chee kang while I ordered 2 burgers. There was no electricity for the kitchen so they didnt have the oven to properly cook my burger patties or fish. I asked that it be prepared on the grill pan instead. It shouldn't be much different if they covered the pan with a lid on low flame after adding the cheese. I'm confident that Chef Nizam would know. The ferry arrived at 1:30pm to shuttle us back to the mainland. We're exhausted from lack of sleep but had a much anticipated relaxing time at PLR away from work and the chaos of the metropolis. Pro tip: Bring lots of snacks and your own toiletries. The ones provided are made to smell like raw vegetables.

Mr Kornellius (21-Aug) was attentive with our need, he made small talk with us making sure all our need is served... Other staff was good but he went the distance.. I never been to any YTL resort and my wife (the holiday was our honeymoon) is a frequent Tanjung Jara (YTL) resort.... I definitely want to come back again & visit other YTL resort!!!

Never to late to review this nice resort. I travelled here 2018 September. More than 2 years back. Now I'm thinking want to go back for the second trip soon. The place was very nice and we love the beach. I remember we stayed at Hills Villa, travelled with wife and 2 kids, we booked 2 room, and the Hill Villa room have a very stunning view. I can't remember which room, but the person in charge told us, that this 2 rooms are the most stunning view of the sea. (I have put picture here during our last visit, the morning view was superb. Hotel Manager, please let me know which room was this?) Take full board package so you no need to worry about foods. And trust me, all their restaurants, foods are delicious. Nothing will go wrong (at least during my visit because all of us very happy with the foods quality since I'm quite fussy with the taste, so no complaint , thumbs up to all the chefs there) The room, i no need to describe, as how you see it on their website. What I wanted to share, I love the beach so much. I have spent whole day from morning up to lunch by the beach restaurant then continue till sunset. They beach is very nice, good for taking photo as well, love the sunset there. Hope I can come back soon maybe stay longer, previously was 4D/3N still feel not enough to enjoy the peace and quite while listening the sound of the wave hitting the beach. Oh forgot to mentioned, the hotel staff is super friendly and helpful too during our stay. Feel like home. And when check out, i left my laptop charger, and only realized that, when i reach back home. Called the hotel, they check for me, they found it, and courier it back to me for free. That was a good hospitality I had overall stay at this resort as overall. Perfect!

Came back from our 2nd trip at PLR and still enjoyed it very much. Resort is well maintained despite RMCO and the hospitality continue to impress us. Special compliment to Matsum and Hasan from Feast Village, Robin from Uncle Lim and a uncle from Fishermen Cove (didn’t manage to get his name).

Our first meet and greet at the reception, then to jetty & reception was good, whole process from check in until to the room was smooth.. The introduction & briefing session about our stays being excellently done. They served juices to cooling us down from the hot weather. We booked 2 rooms and requested to have it side by side, but unfortunately we don’t get it, probably due to high number of visitors..but Sea Villa Room was beautiful and we’re not disappointed with Ms. Dian recommendation even though it’s quite far but the view is awesome.. everywhere is picturesque and we just can’t get enough with photos. Emerald bay is amazing and we loved it so do the infinity swimming pools are vibe! We sat there in awe to amaze and the Hornbills greeted us so friendly! With the Resident Package we can enjoy a 3 times meal a day and got to experience all the restaurants they had except for Spa Village area which closed due to the pandemic I guess. For the food quality I’m giving 3 out of 5 - probably because we’re local and we’ve tasted better food for local cuisines. For Uncle’s Lim I think it’s quite pricey for the quality of food .. they can do better, The staff, they’re friendly & hospitable as how the supposed to be but I believe they can do better.. they did a good job despite a high number of visitors to fulfill our request and with minimum staff, especially during Breakfast , where our food and drinks always late and need to be request more than once.. this can be improvise by getting more staff during breakfast. The only thing I dislike is the towel in the room, the smells of the bleach too strong. Anyway congrats to Ms. Dian, Mr. Azman the FB Manager, Kumang and the rest of the team.. lGood Job guys!
