We had an amazing room with a big terrace right on the lake. The view from anywhere in the room was stunning, and the bed was huge! There is an annex building a bit further down the road that houses a number of other units we didn't see, but the main part where we were was quiet and clearly well cared for. We also visited the neighbouring tea plantation which was interesting and cheap (just turn up but the tour is in french only). If you're self driving (like us), follow the road sign to the lodge along a road not on google maps (although it pretty much follows the railway, which is marked) for a quicker drive in.

During out trip through Madagascar we stayed for two nights in the hotel. Its location is beautiful. It has big and very clean rooms in the main building and bungalows in the lake. The employees are friendly. Also the food was delicous. Our room was big and clean. Close the the hotel is a tea plantage. Its visit is recommended. The lodge is really a very good oportunity if you've planed a trip by train to the coast to Manakara. The only thing wich wasn't very good, was that the travel agency booked a beautiful bungalow in the lake for us. But when we arrived in the hotel, the gave us the train coach to stay. I mean it's a big train coach and the idea to stay inside there is really something special. But it was so hot inside the coach, that we couldn't stay there. So I asked at the reception, if they've another room for us. Fortunately they'd a big and cooler room for us. Anyway, it's a great pity that the hotel did not gave us the bungalow in the lake as booked by the travel agency.

Wow, what a beautiful hotel in more than beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed our stay so much, we stayed here for 5 nights during our trip through Madagascar. We drove ourselves, no guide, no chauffeur, it gives you so much freedom and the opportunity to stay for several nights in a hotel. And this hotel really deserves that. We had a bungalow on stilts above the lake. The view in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, all are great. We visited the teaplantation, we made a walk around the lake (it's a bit adventurous, but you can do it, just follow the paths made by the local people), we had a great massage and we went for a day to Fianarantsoa, it's a 45 minute drive, so it's not far. The food is excellent, enough to choose from. And the people who work there are lovely. They have a great shop with great souvenirs. I don't know what to say more, just go and see (and stay for more than 1 night!!).

If you are planning to travel to South Eastern highlands of Madagascar I highly recommend you stop by Sahambavy and stay at the charming LAC HOTEL Sahambavy. A lovely hotel that features bungalows that extend into lake Sahambavy. I highly recommend this place for travelers looking to spend a wonderful relaxing time within the Betsileo countryside of Madagascar. All the rooms have been custom designed by Maggie (the owner) to exceed your level for of comfort and travel experience. Each room features incredibly comfortable king sized beds, satellite cable TV, locally sourced tea from the tea fields of Sahambavy, handmade sourced soap made from local materials and local artwork featuring some of the best craftsmen, photographers and Malagasy artist. In addition the food at the restaurant is EXCELLENT. Most of the items on the menu are in-house from homemade yogurt and bread to the vegetables that are hand-picked directly from the garden at the Hotel. This hotel is one Madagascars best kept secret and If you are looking for a hotel that offers high quality items, excellent staff offering top notch service and an environmentally friendly establishment this is the place for YOU! P.S. I HIGHLY recommend Bungalow 13 for couples and/or single travelers.

Lac hotel is a wonderful and charming hotel at lake Sahambavy and next to the Sahambavy tea plantation. It's also close to the train station. The bungalows on tilts at the water are amazing! Very peaceful, huge, comfortable and clean. We were given the so-called honeymoon bungalow! The biggest bungalow at the lake with a private terrace overlooking the lake and its surroundings. The bungalow has a king sized bed and a huge flatscreen TV with Canal+. Apart from their bungalows they offer to sleep in a cool antique train wagon.   This hotel is also very innovative and eco-friendly. The products they use are organic, homemade and homegrown. They have their own vegetable garden to provide quality and fresh products. The restaurant offers a European and Malagasy menu, all very good! The hotel also has an agreement with the Malagasy train railway to give customers the best quality of service in terms of ticketing and last but not least, they are planning to build a spa in the colorful houses at the property to complete your relaxing stay at Lac Hotel! There's WiFi available in the restaurant area; it's not working in the bungalows. Lac Hotel also offers activities around the lake. They have some water bikes you can use to explore the lake, which was great fun! You can also plan a visit to the nearby tea plantation! We had a great experience and would love to come back in the future!
