Do not stay here. The hotel (at least the “Annex”) is not safe. We left early after someone tried to break into one of our rooms at 5am using the room key from the reception (banging on the door, trying to open the door with the key, trying to open the door by putting things in the door to get the lock to open). We also had the cleaning staff make a fake bill for laundry (on hotel invoice paper) and demand money from us in our room in exchange for our laundry. The hotel management is aware of the problems; we complained at length to the management and it was clear they had an existing safety/security issue in their “annex” (which is the older part of the hotel, a separate building from the new hotel). Regarding the new hotel: it has the same staff as the old hotel, so if there are issues of security that due to individual staff members, I would not trust staying in either hotel.

Hotel has two parts a new and old One with different prices. New One cost double . As for the old it's a low 3 stars hotel but no service in It. No elevator , no food no wifi . Personnel not really client oriented . At full night 2 am receptionist allow people to enjoy internal pool without any respect for other guests. We had no TV for 2 days . AC working good but only in the rooms with new machine . The new One has a clean external pool , good service and receptionist available to help . Food at restaurant it's good .

The hotel has a good location. Nice view if you choose the suites. Big room and clean. The staff is good. Nice swimming pool. The restaurant is ok, not the best quality in town but quite ok. As a summary is a good hotel.

First of all it is immensely noisy. I mean crazy noisy. There is a road with a lot of trucks coming from the port underneath and you actually feel the vibration in your room and the noise is just unbelievable. It is like sleeping on the pavement. So if you are for business here and you need to rest during the night it is definitely not for you. I was wearing noise cancelling headphones during the night but still couldnt sleep. The staff is highly unprofessional. They dont understand the concept of online booking. They tried to charge me twice for the breakfast which was included and they also forgot to order a taxi despite I asked in advance so I nearly missed my flight. Breakfast is very bad and there is so many flies flying around that it is very difficult to not to eat one.

Our stay at Hotel de la Poste was a delightful experience. We were met at the Diego (Antsiranana) Airport by a man with a hotel sign as soon as we left baggage claim. Our room-for- 3 was in the old hotel, which we found nicely updated, fascinating, clean, comfortable and air conditioned. Our room was very spacious and overlooked the harbor and some seaside industry. Breakfast buffet was poolside in the new hotel just around the corner from the old hotel. The breakfast buffet, (cost about $4) consisted of croissants and several other breads, fresh fruit (we hit Diego at peak mango season), eggs made to order, yogurts, juices, coffee, tea, etc. The hotel and restaurant staff was very helpful and spoke English. The hotel owners graciously greeted us and offered every kindness. The hotel is on a side street off the main drag, so is was quieter and more private than the hotels on the main street through town.

This review is for the new building, annex, or expansion. (Please ensure you specify that if you decide to reserve a stay. More expensive, yes; but the reviews on the old building had me a bit reticent to stay at all.) Bottom line: a solid choice for this section of the north. Cons: bathroom was nicely outfitted but lacked a little in the cleanliness department. I had no hot water the entire stay, but with the 30+ degree weather in Malagasy summer, lukewarm cool water (and sufficient water pressure) was good enough. Lastly in the Cons: the bed came straight from the local stone quarry- I don’t think I’ve ever slept on a mattress a ‘firm’ as that one. I like firm and slept pretty well but, if you’re not one for firm mattresses - you’re not likely to enjoy the beds. Pros: ocean view is incredible; service is friendly; meals were top-tier adequate; it’s pricey compared to other local hotels but 65 euro a night is probably the sweet spot for what you get. Room was clean, had fridge and AC; no street noise and a rather nice pool. While it’s downtown accessible it’s not in the thick of it. A moror-pus will get you to all Restuarants for about 2000 MGA. Recommended as a solid and quiet choice.

I had a room in the old part of the hotel, on the courtyard side. However, the room gives directly on the stairs used by the visitors, so I could not open the curtains or the windows. Some of my travel mates had a room on the outside, but they were noisy (generators, as there are frequent power outages, and the harbour). Wifi was a nightmare - almost impossible in the rooms, and very infrequent in the passages. It was better in the new section of the hotel (not always), but not always easy to move to that part. Mattresses are very poor, but rooms are big and clean, with an adequate bathroom. Staff on the ground are friendly, but cannot solve the issues and management is unreachable. Other hotels at the same price in town offer better services.

Delicious zebu steak with pepper sauce and potatoes. Just one of the many good meals on offer at the Hotel de la Poste downtown in Diego Suarez. The restaurant is an open space overlooking the harbour and the bay and quite popular with locals, expats and hotelguests.

The Hotel de la Poste has two buildings of the same name which are separated by 100 metres. The buildings are polar opposites when it comes to standards and quality, the new building is pretty nice while the old building is a mouldy dump. The group I travelled with had a large number of people so we were spread across both buildings, those unfortunate enough to end up in the old building mostly tried to move to another hotel. The rooms were dirty, had no A/C, unable to lock doors and fully of insects at night. The new building was clean, modern, nice pool, great rooms with large hot showers and all the basic ammenities you would expect from a modern hotel. There is a lack of technology in the new hotel and while there is Wifi for guests, there is no controlled form of check-in as such the day we arrived keys we handed out randomly and people were given keys to rooms they hadn't booked then another key was given to the next erson who booked the room. In all the confusion and dis-organisation multiple keys were handed out to many diiferent people, this took over 6 hours to sort and many guest decided to leave for other hotels. It was extremely disappointing, that said the rooms were reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. I would most likely stay somewhere else next time I visit Diego Suarez as staying at the de la Poste was not enjoyable.

Stayed here for 3 nights, would definitely recommend it. Nice location, friendly owners, the room was fine to me, nice atmosphere. The best part about the room and the hotel is the view. Nothing wrong with the room except that the air conditioner would just blow out warm air and it was like 30c outside and inside.
