The reason why I came to Babaomby is not the reason why my trip was more than a trip.
I was looking for sun, fun while surfing on a magnificent sea and rejuvenating nature. Obviously I found everything there.
On the other hand, meeting such kind and friendly Malagasy people was the surprise bonus. I warmly thank each pair of hands who make life sweeter for us in Babaomby. Their joy is inspiring.
We must highlight the flavors on the plates, the smiles of the waiters and the advice at the sailing club which helps us progress enormously.
Fortunately, the shells collected on the beach remind me that this trip was not just a dream, but a waking dream.
Babaomby is worth the trip, no matter how far away you are from!

We stayed here for 10 days. This place is just magical, it’s a real life experience that I recommend to all kitesurfing, windsurfing and wing surfing enthusiasts. A generous and delicate Malagasy team, a setting is incredible, lost in the middle of the emerald sea. This place is a rare gem, I would come back

We went as a family and occupied two tents on platforms for several nights. Due to the world health crisis, we were the only ones. It took me time to bring myself to write this review because we´d just love to keep it to ourselves. That´s how good it is.

Babaomby Lodge was really above my expectations. I arrived after a 50 min boat trip and found myself in a kind of Robison Crusoe experience. No stress, relaxed I could completely unplug and enjoy this magnifique place. Nicolas crew took care of everything... thats what I needed for my vacation.
The nature, the wooden lodges, the color of the sea and the plants were an amazing setting. On top of that I met a wonderful group of people and ate delicious Malgesh home made food.
In terms of sport I was really satisfied. I could kite surf every day and took lessons with the very patient and nice professors (Pierre and Angelo); after the kite sessions I could relax thanks to the massage, enjoy the petanque and apero with the group. A very cozy ambiance, definitely feet on the Emerald sea.

The Emerald sea with its green waters is a dream location and Babaomby island lodge is a great place with two big shortcomings. Thankfully these should easily solvable if Nicolas the owner puts his mind to it.
Facts: we love it but this place is pretty basic: communal showers and loos, rooms are actually protected tents (perfectly suitable for us), shared tables for meals, the latter being part of the appeal of the place when other guests are as pleasant as they were when we went there. Fantastic for experienced riders (strong winds, waves of all sizes everyday), not so good for beginners, particularly in July-August (30-40 knts wind, gusty, choppy waters) Most days lessons could not happen because the wind was too strong. Great kitesurfing crew and renting gear.
Two things to fix (we would have taken them up with Nicolas had he been there but he was not there the last four days):
- the food. Not enough quantity considering the amount paid and the sport done; and not enough variety. Especially when considering that in even more remote locations in Madagascar the cooked food we found was vastly superior. One week of rice every meal + always the same dessert of papaya and pineapple, Either improve the portions or at least organise a tea with food between kite and dinner. And if no delivery on Sunday; as is understandable, anticipate (it is the case every Sunday) and stock up for one day!
- the attitude of the two ladies who serve the meals. Consistently slow and hostile. You clearly bother them when you ask something, anything and big shoulder bumps without a word to retrieve your plate. V unpleasantly surprising and not consistent with the renowned malagasy friendliness we encountered everywhere else in Madagascar, including at Babaomby with the kitesurfing crew or with Boniface the delightful gardner.
Verbatim morning exchange translated from French illustrating the two shortcomings, after having been given just two pieces of bread (delicious but clearly not enough):
"Hi. Is it possible to have a little bit more bread?
No
How about bananas?
No
And no eggs either?
No
Is it possible to get anything else?
Don't know. You go to the kitchen."
30 minutes later after having had to go and beg at the kitchen and received promises of pancakes. (Pancakes but no eggs??)
"Hi, any news about the pancakes?
No. You go to kitchen.
OK (starting to get a little fed up) I'll go but I was afraid of taking your job away from you."
We had a great week overall at Babaomby but clearly did not enjoy the two wrinkles described above which became a subject of discussion and fun among all the guests. If they get fixed, we'd love to be back.

I stayed here about 3 years ago and kited every day for a fortnight. Waves were incredible, fish were freshly caught every day, tents were a little basic but overall a fantastic experience and amazing value. Not suitable for beginner kite surfers or anyone worried about insects or reptiles. Quite remote. Food is mostly fish and rice every day so it is like going to a health camp. Very convivial with everyone eating together. Highly recommended.

I just come back from this amazing place. It was great experience. My trip was planned in a hurry so i just checked places for kitesurfing and i haven't been worried about where i'm gonna stay for sleeping. So i knew that Emerald sea is a unique kite surfing experience but i didn't have any expectations about the lodge. So at first place it was quite a surprise that this are actually tends with no electricity and of course not a private bathroom and toilet...this is camping to get clear idea.Prices are defiantly not camping and not even madagaskarians prices but if you can afford it and you are just a bit easygoing adventurist go ahead for this unique experience.i wasn't prepared to sleep in camping without light and the toilet in the middle of the wild life but they gave us lights so everything was just fine.Don't expect to work on internet here because is very bad (if we can still call it internet and also telephone signal is good just if you take 10 minutes walk on the hill. Bring something against mosquitos and start enjoying this amassing cosy place. If you will be lucky as we have been you will meet great people whit which you be shearing moments of your day at the lunch and dinner time. As in good old times when the people have been still talking to each other and not just sending sms for communicate. The food is very tasty and if you are a fish lover you will enjoy the place even more.THe lodge has its kite and wind surf center with very friendly stuff. They will take care of you even if you are not the best experienced kitesurfer .

I had a wonderful week free ride wave kitesurfing at this isolated Eco lodge in Madagascar - awesome waves on the outer reef using 5m and 7m kites. Plenty of flat water for twin tips also.
Great staff, guests, food and vibe. I thoroughly recommend this place if you're looking for a great kiting getaway and a place to chillout!

A trip to Babaomby Island Lodge is a lifetime experience... From the initial sail boat ride to the actual location, to the magnificent lagoon in front of the lodge, every single detail of Babaomby Island Lodge will be unforgettable.
The lodge is remote and the number of accommodations is limited so you have the best kitesurf spot in the world for yourself, and only a couple of steps away from your lodge.
The staff is incredibly nice and friendly. The guests are a good mix of families, single folks, and small groups of friends. The experience feels like you're part of a small family.
Accommodation is simple and clean, and most bungalows are sea facing which is nice.
Leaving Babaomby is the toughest part of the stay frankly, but we'll be back for sure!

Bonsoir Monsieur,
