The hotel is reasonably modern inside but occupies a classical-style building in an excellent location -- central yet fairly quiet, in a walking distance of a metro station. The rooms are spacious, with high ceilings and large windows. Very clean and tidy. Excellent value for money, especially considering the use of the spa.
Poor service. Over priced. Noisy. Poor english in room directions. Poor maintenance- aircons out of order, power plugs for charging phones laptop is awkwardly placed behind furniture and either inaccessible or mostly out of order. Not comfortable for working on a desk, no easy access to powerpoint for charger!! Have to be a contortionist and get on you hands and knees to get a cable to a power plug. And then hope it has electricity, as half do not work! Menu did not have items ordered on it and feedback when providing meals. Telephone not marked or indicated to contact reception - you have to walk there. Lift is monstrously slow. Room TV does not have english news movie channels, with searching you may find 3 channels with an english voiceover. Will not be coming back here :((
It is my econd stay here. Room iterior is good, nice bathroom, nice amenities. SPA and pool is good, enjoy working by the pool. Restaurant, wine list - great. Overall service and experience - - nice..
If you travel to Kazakhstan you must stay in this hotel. The location is great and you will meet fantastic people from the reception desk to the staff cleaning the room. You feel like at home when experiencing the Kazakh sense of hospitality at the Grand Hotel Tien-Shan. If you want to eat be ready to gain few kilos as the food is irresistible. The room cleanliness is above expectations. For sure, I will only stay in this hotel when in the lovely city of Almaty in great Kazakhstan !
