So, what to say. I was in Almaty on a one night stopover between flights, so wanting an economic option and a few hours sleep. On that basis, the Renion Hotel fit the bill. Room was large, with old style and wel worn wood furniture. it was very clean, and the bed was comfortable and linen spotless. Cost was about...

Not one single person on the staff spoke even a little bit of English; therefore, communication was impossible. The pictures posted online by the hotel plus the price made it too attractive to pass up. Oh, how I wish I had passed it up. This hotel was old, shabby, dingy, dark and dirty. There were lamps missing bulbs. The carpet...

Often used this hotel for a stopover when travelling through Almaty (flights always seem to arrive at very unsociable hours in this part of the world); considering the generally high prices in Almaty this hotel is one of the cheapest on offer (approx 50 US$ for a single). They also offer you 12 h rates if you ask for it...

Pros: - Rates are very economical (I paid about 55 USD/night) - Silent location - Good price for value - Free high speed internet (Wi-fi) - Friendly staff - No check-in and check-out time. You pay per 24 hours from your arrival time. (good for people arriving and departing at early morning) - Air condition, TV, free breakfast Cons: -...
