Nogamihonkan Ryokan, the typical Japanese style inn ( Ryokan ) with natural hot spring (ONSEN) were established in 1938. We welcome foreign visiters to enjoy ONSEN and impressive experience of Japanese culture. We locate at the downtown Beppu, only 10min walk from Beppu station. There are many restaurants and shops around us, so visiters can enjoy various local foods and shopping.

10 minutes walk from beppu train station. our traditional room was very nice and clean. Just a little bit noisy. Sea is 5min by walk but the most beautiful part is quite far, better to take the bus. The hotel is quite far from jingoku meguri but there is some bus too. The onsen were so great! There is some private one, so perfect for people who have tatoos.

Inside the narrow street but near Takegawara Spa, easy to find. They provide free towel to let us to go to Takegawara Spa. Shopping and eating place are near. Big Japanese style room for our family with toilet inside. Free drink near staircase. Reading area at 3/F. JPY 150 is the tax for every adult. Private Spa reservation required when check-in.

We spent 3 night in this ryokan, we enjoyed it very much the japanese style room was very spacious and clean. onze a day you can reserve a private onsen for free and you can use the public onsen as much as you like. The onsen need a good scrub some time but overall good value for money. Location is nice also. Don't expect the staff to speak english though.

We thought that it would be nice to try once a ryokan but I do not ever want to use this ryokan again. First we thought we have own bathroom, we did not. The room we got was so small that there were nothing but the bed and floor 2m x 2m. Toilets were far away from the room, there was only one for 8 rooms and it was dirty and cold. Dwellers came during the night from the city, last ones 3 am. We could not sleep because they talked loudly outside our door for an hour. The breakfast was not the one we were promised. If ryokans are always like this, they are not for me because I want to have a good night sleep to be able to enjoy my vacations. I was disappointed.

Nice place, room is small but nice and clean. Public bath is small too. There are public hot water/ coffee/ tea at 3rd floor. 10 minutes waking form Beppu train station and there is a big supermarket around the corner. Recommended.

Location was really nice to stay. All restaurant located very close to ryokan. Room is good for asian but may be a bit small for europe or american. The private Bathroom was also special for our couple just only 1080 Yen and you can book in advance :)

Lets start with the positive. The rooms, at least ours at the south side were big. A small balcony can be used, but you look in the rooms of the hospital. Further on you can use the spa for an hour for each night you stay there. Very hot, clean, but register yourself early for the spa, otherwise you get the unpopular hours. Towels are minimal and small. Negative is the noise. From outside where the red light district is, but also from inside. We had a family with crying children above us. Checkin out time is rather early, 10.00. Lets finish positive; on the third floor you can take as much thea, coffee and water for free. Good if the cannot sleep from the noise.

Stayed one night here in November. I said weird setup because the bedroom is very basic with only a bed (very soft one to my liking, very rare in Japan!), a couch and a TV. Inconvenient for those who need to use bathroom frequently. Outside my room is already common area with lots of magazines and comic books for reading, couches, water machine and the washing area. I tried their onsen which looks rather worn-out and old and seems in need of update/maintenance... However this place is just a 2 minute walk from a legendary public bath where you can enjoy both onsen and sand bath (1000 yen). Great to do it on the morning before the check out. I did not have breakfast so I cannot comment on it, but it seems good to add that because there are no restaurants serving breakfasts

In the restaurantarea of Beppu, close to the waterfront, is this hotel with a few westernstyle rooms. Shared toilet quite a walk from the rooms, small onsen serves as a communal bath. Room was very small but new and with a comfortable bed. Coffee, tea and fridge in the communal area. Japanese style breakfast. Not next to the main tourist sites of Beppu which are very touristic but still nice to see.
