Good- Excellent view, very nice bath both in room and the communal. Bad - Expect no Wi-Fi signal. They use a non secured network that achieves 72 mbps on the 5th floor and 56 mbps on gtje 6th floor. Most of the time a cell phone will go in and out.A Laptop will connect but shows "no internet" due no DNS response. So place is ok as long as you don;t need any internet connection. There is a Starbucks ablout 5 minutes away that saved my rear end. BTW- the hotel next door Umine has EXCELLENT Wi-Fi. The food is good, but the volume is RIDICULOUS. If you eat everything, you will not be able to eat breakfast or lunch the next day. A guest ended up at a doctor's clinic because they served sushi last after an absurdly large meal. Raw fish in the stomach unable to digest is dangerous, lost 2 days of vacation due to this. Very cheap towels. Mine was ripped and had to be replaced. This hotel (although not unique) gets busloads of party drinkers who are loud and drunk in the hallways. They call them "Enkai".Had one guy trying to get in my door as he was lost. The loud Karaoke singing is annoying if you just want to get some sleep. Your money can be used better elsewhere.

Our disappointment started with the location of the hotel, the area is really depressing (sex shops, pachinko and a highway running on the side). The reception was cold, no english spoken. We got the room at 2h30, which looked nice with a nice view on the beach and the sea. But suspicion peaked as the lady who brought us to the room told us that was ok to walk with street shoes inside (very non-japanise). Then we pushed the bed together and lot of dust balls where under the bed. But the worst surprise was the bathroom: overall not clean and even though there was a seal on the toilet claiming it was sanitized, the toilet seat was covered with what appeared to be dried urine. Disgusted we called the reception to complain, Two people appeared within 5 minutes to clean for about 10 minutes. When they left it was still not properly clean. No apology or response from the management followed the incident. Both onsen are nice, in particular the open air one at the last floor. Dinner was good with a large variety of dished, but served too much in a rush so that several dishes got cold fast (like the tempura). Also the room was very cold. We would not reccommend this hotel, nor this area of Beppu.

"Bokai" means "seaview" in Japanese and it can't be a more appropriate name for this hotel. Our room has an impeccable view of the beach, the park and the boundless sea. It has a Japanese style living room and a Western style bedroom- the best of both worlds. We opted for dinner in the room and it turned out to be a wise decision- it felt like as if we were having a feast at home. Although we only speak a little bit of Japanese, the waitress was patient enough to explain how each course should be eaten. The local beef was wonderful and so were the other courses. We were completely full and happy. Breakfast at the restaurant was equally great with the same seaview. There are two onsens available for each gender- an indoor one and one on the rooftop. The rooftop one is better with natural wind and a nice view of Beppu city. Adding to the lists of thumbs-up of this hotel is the fact that the decor is tastefully done, and that free wifi is available for guests. The hotel is a 15-min walk from the Beppu train station. For those who would like to take the bus, the nearest bus stop is "Beppu Tower".

The hotel is situated besides the sea. As its name, you can see the sea. However, I am so surprised that, you can see the sea everywhere, like your room, hotspring, restaurants, etc. It faces east. If you are lucky, you can see sunrise too. The food is nice and the price is reasonable. Enjoy.

Stayed for 1 night without any meals. The room was as expected of a simple comfortable Japanese room. Futon was comfortable and the view of the sea was lovely from the room. Tried the rooftop onsen at night and the washing area is also out in the open, next to the onsen. I could see some stars from the onsen :) Worth checking it out!
