Pros: 1. Large rooms 2. All rooms have the ocean view 3. Free hot bath/onsen 4. If you can find a good staff/concierge who can take ownership of making your stay comfortable, it can be quite pleasant. I had Alda who took care of us, and she was great once we found her. Cons: 1. Hotel has a very few, if any, English-speaking staff. I've never been to a Marriott-branded hotel without English speaking staff. (I've been to Westin Kyoto, Sheraton Kobe, Sheraton Hiroshima, plus Rihga Royal, Granvia, ANA Crown Plaza, Prince Hotel, etc. in Japan). 2. Check-in was disorganized and the staff didn't speak English and didn't smile or try to show any hospitality or the prized Japanese trait "genki." He was one of the shockingly NOT-genki people I've encountered in Japan. He didn't care that I didn't speak Japanese or that he had the wrong reservation information. It was quite uncomfortable and irritating. 3. Housekeeping was SLOW. Even after 2:30 p.m. nobody's come by. Contacting the Guest Service isn't always useful because every time I called, nobody spoke English. Or they didn't answer the call at all. It's like half the times, nobody mans the Guest Service phone line. 4. During the breakfast buffet (Pine Terrace), the hotel staff didn't clear the table. Which means you have to buss the table yourself if you want to bring more food OR flag somebody if possible. This issue was pointed out more than 2x, but the management doesn't care because this was never fixed, even on our final day. (However, when you complain, they'll say sorry we'll do a better job, just to shut you up.) 5. Their restaurants are overpriced and terrible. In particular, avoid their Italian restaurant. It was expensive, and the food was uninspired and tasteless. I've had better at less than half the cost elsewhere in Japan. Actually, I've never had a hotel restaurant meal this awful anywhere. 6. Check-out was disorganized. When I arrived at the front desk and said I needed to check out, a clerk sent me to a long line for check-in instead, saying that was where I needed to go. (BTW - check-out and check-in are same in Japanese and English) Then another person came and said I needed to go to a different line. 7. Their pool is small and shallow (comes to your waist at the most). If you want to sit by the pool, it's not possible because there's no shade. They have maybe like 3 shades and 4 bungalows. You must pay 3,000 yet for 80 minutes if you want to use one of the bungalows, and because they're closed off, it's like a sauna inside, even if a fan in there. It's pretty gross how much they're trying to squeeze money out of people. The least they can do is provide enough shades, especially when they're asking people to social distance due to Corona. 8. Perfunctory staff. They just seem to be interested in doing bare minimum in most cases. Very disappointing. 9. The property is far from the beach (at least 10 mins by their shuttle bus). Nothing's really walkable, especially in summer because it's too hot. 10. The breakfast buffet has the exact same food every day. If you spent more than 3 days here, you'll be tired of their breakfast. Also, nobody speaks English at the buffet, so it can be tricky to order omelet. Omelets are cooked very runny, and I couldn't get the cook to cook it a bit longer and more thoroughly. 11. The hotel is old, and carpet and furnishing show this. 12. The resort is basically designed to be a soulless vacation spot for families with small kids (under the age of 7). There's very little to do, and everything requires an extra fee (such as the use of the bungalow by the pool, their fitness center and indoor pool, morning yoga, etc.). It's shocking to see a resort charges what it does here and then nickel and dime its guests. This is my first time trying out a Japanese resort. (I generally prefer resorts overseas.) My expectations were set VERY LOW, but Sheraton failed to meet even my lowered expectations. Given my experience here, I doubt I'll ever opt for another resort in Japan for my next vacation. Nor do I plan to return to Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort. My vacation fund and time are too precious to be wasted on a subpar property.

Not being a "preferred guest," we were given a questionable room with some issues related to the aging state of the resort. After a polite request for a different room, we were granted an upgrade to a much better room. If this happens to you, be sure to let the desk know about it. The English spoken by the desk staff was very good and there were multiple assistants (university students working during the semester break?) everywhere and their English was fantastic. I know people who stayed here just after it opened years ago, and according to them it is beginning to show its age. That being said, the overall feel of the resort is very nice and I would recommend staying here. Small secret: If the weather is inclement (i.e. hot, rainy, or both) you can park underground to avoid this. It seems that most people park in the open and don't know about the (limited) parking below.

For general information - The resort is famous as an onsen (2!) destination, with an attached convention center. All the spacious rooms overlook the ocean, golf course and pine forests. There are tons of restaurants with many different cuisines to choose from. The amenities are very well maintained, the wifi is fast and stable, and housekeeping service is provided with courtesy and quality. We have fallen in love with the hotel and the quality of services. This was our second visit to this beautiful resort - and our return trip is already planned. We were very warmly welcomed as Marriott Elite members with personal attentive care. Upon arrival we were immediately taken up to the Executive Lounge for check-in, and were able to relax and enjoy a beverage & snacks during the process. After check-in, Mr. Kawabata of the Executive Lounge personally escorted us to our upgraded suite and provided an overview of the various details to ensure a comfortable stay. The highlight of our visits was the Executive Lounge. The Lounge provides options for breakfast, afternoon tea service and snacks, and a wonderful cocktail hour selection of food and top-shelf drinks, including champagne! The Lounge is spacious, with plenty of seating areas and wonderful ocean views. While the Lounge itself is delightful, it is the Lounge staff who are the true stars! As mentioned, Mr. Kawabata went above-and-beyond to ensure that our stay exceeded our expectations. The entire staff in the Lounge are extraordinarily attentive and happily anticipated our requests with superb service. We have provided our feedback accordingly to hotel management. As a final note, breakfast in the Pine Terrace is an extensive buffet of western and Japanese choices, including a personalized egg station. Breakfast is also available in the Lounge where we also enjoyed the same level of service and the expansive views.

Very lovely sea view from the hotel. You’ve got to try to free hot springs at the hotel, not one, but two. The room is massive and clean. The breakfast is lovely although I wish there’s more selection in meat. The location is kind of inconvenient, but for those who intend to drive parking is free. Service is great, however the front desk’s English skills need some improvements.

Pros (1) Wi Fi Speed is fast (2) The resort design is beautiful - Lobby with a fish tank + tropical trees (3) Breakfast/ dinner buffet contains interesting staff (4) Ocean views (5) beautiful design outdoor pool views. (5) It has Onsen. 조식/ 석식 뷔페 모두 quality 괜찮고 staff 친절함. Hotel Room이 넓고 wifi 속력 빠름 Cons (1) It appears that the resort has a bit remote location. (2) It appears that there is no convenience store. (3) 2 Onsens are a bit far away. One is around 100 metres/ The other s around 250 metres on foot.

We booked the Grande Ocean for a relaxing time between the Rugby World Cup games. The people are very friendly and they do try to help. Also, the club lounge provided good food and drinks in the evening, but the breakfast is poor. Our feeling was that the hotel isn't managed very well and it is impossible to speak with a duty manager if you have a complaint. We couldn’t believe that the pool area was closed for the whole duration of our stay and that fact did not appear on the hotel website? Also, if you are English speaking you will experience difficulty when trying to make yourself understood via the telephone and it isn't much easier in person.

The hotel itself is amazing with so many amenities but the service tops it all! Nothing was too much trouble for any staff member and we were made to feel like we were their most important guests! There are numerous restaurant options for various preferences and there are also different bars. Although we didn't have any children with us we noticed many child friendly options.

Stayed here for a week for business. The hotel is outstanding and the view was very nice. I was upgraded to a corner room so the room was very spacious. It is definitely a resort style so everything is onsite: Osen & Restaurant It was a little bit crowded since it is a summer travel season and a lot of kids. The transportation is just OK. From/to airport: weekends/holiday only From/to Miyazaki Station: about 1 hour per day available free shuttle to nearby places... zoo/aeon mall etc..

We were traveling from Yakoshima to Beppu and needed a place to stay on the way so we chose this location for one night. What a mistake. The mistake was that we reserved only one night. What a magnificent hotel! The grounds, the spa, shops, the restaurant, not to mention our room which was very modern, comfortable beds, great bathroom and the breakfast was just amazing. Free parking. And what a pleasure with English speaking check in. Anyway do not hesitate - if you are in the area or just passing through - stay at this fine hotel

The check-in was on 36F in the Club Lounge, and it was friendly and efficient. I was given Room 3720, with two double beds and a view of the golf course, swim club and the ocean. I could see the oceanside parts of Miyazaki and the airport, too. The view was, in a word, great. The room was huge, and the bathroom was very nicely done, with a window to the bedroom (with a slat shutter for privacy) and separate bathtub and shower. The toilet was in a separate room and had its own sink as well. The amenities were very good. Linens and towels were also excellent and everything was sparkling clean and functioned well. No surprise. The Club Lounge was excellent, very bright and huge picture windows looking northeast and southeast, making the most of the view. The nibbles and the breakfast were notably higher quality than the foods on offer in the ground floor buffet restaurant, something you don’t always get when you spend on the Club floor. This Club is definitely worth the extra money, in my opinion. The staff throughout were great, and the club lounge staff were fantastic. There’s not much around the hotel, so meal options are extremely limited unless you cab into the central Miyazaki area, which is not that far and worth the hassle to avoid the hotel’s tourist restaurant. There were lots of Chinese tourists, none from the US, as far as I could tell. I was going to go to the Onsen but was put off by a long line of tourists waiting to get in. It is a very large facility, so it has all the amenities that go along with that, although there is no sense of intimacy anywhere, except perhaps in the club lounge.
