A really great place to have a traditional ryokan experience in Japan. Nakazono, the owner is extremely nice. He will tell you what to do in Kagoshima, what are the schedules, what are the prices, etc. His ryokan is friendly and cozy. I felt I was staying in someone's house. I had this enormous room just for myself. There is...

We booked to stay here based on a tip in the Lonely Planet guide book. Glad we did. Slightly more expensive than other places but the owner spoke great English and gave us maps and tips on arrival. We visited the local volcanic island based on his tip and it was a highlight of our entire Japan visit. Basic accommodation,...

Comfy small room with good wifi and air conditioning. Host speaks good English and gave helpful sightseeing tips and advice on the ferry to Yakushima. Yes, the building is a bit shabby but it is perfectly adequate and very well priced.

I stayed for 2 nights. The ryokan is located near Kagoshima station and ferry terminal, easy to find. Public sento is across the road - great experience! Cooking area is basic but adequate. Mr Nakazono was a lovely host, he marked all the interesting places in my guide, and gave good directions. It was raining on my last morning, and...

Like some feedbacks I can confirm this place is basic. BUT it contains a special atmosphere thanks to the owner who will answer all the questions you might have (very knowledgeable). It could be crowded in high season but in low it's a quiet place to settle down and use the free washing machines. You can buy food in town...

I love the atmosphere that can be feel only in a tipical Japanese ryokan or minshuku but as time goes by there are a few remaning. Nakazono Ryokan has a 50 years history to tell to guest (the building is quite 100 years old), don't waste the possibility to know it ;). The Owner will help you for any question...

The accommodation is certainly adequate if basic, and not the best ryokan we stayed in. What stood out for us was the helpfulness of the owner ... e.g. we arrived late fancying a Chinese... so he walked us to the restaurant. If you want service this is good place to stay.

Our family loves Nakazono Ryokan. It’s true that the ryokan is not modern, and isn’t very sunny in most rooms, but it has real character, and lots of eccentricities, including samurai armor in the living room on the second floor, which make it positively charming. Most of the rooms are simple – a room with a futon or two on...

We had a lovely time staying at Nakazono-san's ryokan. The place has so much charm and character. It has a fantastic atmosphere. Our room was very big and clean. Location was great and Nakazono-san was helpful throughout. Stay here, you will not be disappointed.

I landed in Kagoshima Airport very late at night and arrived at Nakazono Ryokan tired and hungry. Mr. Nakazono was so nice and walked with me to a nearby Izakaya where I had wonderful late fish dinner and a nice chat with the local owner. Mr. Nakazono was also very helpful in suggesting interesting places to visit in the area...
