Coming from a traditional ryokan in Unzen, Ginsyo was quite a change. We had a room in the new Annex with an outdoor bath in the balcony facing the sea. Room had a HUGE king bed, bluetooth-enabled stereo, a glass minibar with expresso machine, a day bed opposite the outdoor hot bath. Family LOVED the hot bath, a lovely change...

Really great ryokan. Room have good size and are really clean. Onsen are good and there is two family bath. We had dinner in the hotel and it was one of the greatest meal I had in Japan. Staff is not really fluent in English but everything went fine.

When we arrived outside of the hotel taking a selfie, a staff member offered to take a picture for us. He then led us to the front desk where we were greeted warmly. Afterwards, we were led to a lounge and were offered hot matcha and a light snack. And then we were taken to our room and briefly introduced...

We first rented a room with a private onsen but the outdoor wash area was a bit too drafty. Also because of the draft the onsen never heated up to the right temperature. But the hotel was very accomadating when we asked to change room with a private bath. Breakfasts were outstanding! The public onsens were also very nice.

Location: a bit far away from JR station, but if you drive, then will be ok; very close to the "sand-hot-spring" you will sit down one side to enjoy the welcome drink - green tea and a small biscuit while waiting for checkin and room assignment. once arrived to the room, the lady showed the room very detail; room is...

My wife and I had a lovely weekend in Kagoshima, flying from Osaka, hiring a car and visiting Sakurajima (an island with a smoking volcano) on the way to Ibusuki. Here the first highlight was the sand bath - you change into a Yukata and are covered with hot sand (do say if you find yourself in a hot spot...

From the green (matcha) tea as a welcome to the waving goodbye at the street side walk, our stay was a warm bath/rotemburo. Especially loved the 'infinity onsen' at the rooftop with awesome views over the bay with sunrise in the early morning, unique experience!

A big Ryokan hotel that, like most of these accomodations, doesn't appear to have changed much since the '80s. But it is clean and the traditional tatami rooms are big and very comfortable. Dinner is served in a private room downstairs, in an area that tries to recreate a traditional Japanese street. It looks a bit tacky, but the food...

I stayed at Ginsyo for 2 nights with my family. Breakfast and dinner are served in individual room in the dining area. They have hot onsen (spring) water coming directly to the fireplace surrounded by dining table and they make fresh onsen tamago (slow cooked eggs) there. Their local Kagoshima cuisine was excellent. We had dinner twice but they changed...
