Peaceful and quiet. Beautiful historic architecture. (And free wifi, which by 21st century standards is fantastic.) The staff are incredibly kind, polite, and helpful! The two small courtyards are perfect. Water drops, rustling leaves, crickets chirping. You are encouraged to explore the inn and relax. Complimentary tea, coffee, and water. Western-style bedrooms are available. I appreciated the time to myself to just "be". If I ever get the chance to come back to Japan, I will definitely come back here. Thank you! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🇯🇵🇨🇦
You can escape the crowds just 30 mins from Kyoto! We booked the room on the 2 floor with toilet (seiran). Everything is so nice and sparkling clean. Highly recommended. The staffs is really kind and helpful. We really enjoy our stay here,Definitely come back again!
In brief, it was truly great. The rooms facing the street may be too noisy for light sleepers, but everything overall was superb. Miki's homemade mochi was a very nice treat. The service is first class, the building is first class. My wife and I are seasoned Japan travelers and we really loved this machiya. To get there from the Otsu station, walk straight down the Main Street toward the lake until you come to the third traffic light, then turn left. You will enter a covered but open air arcade shopping section or Shotengai. Keep walking a few blocks until you come to a nice super market on your left, walk a bit more and turn right at the next street. Keep walking to the end of this street and turn left. Continue half a block and Inase Machiya is on your left. Every room there has its own toilet!…
Highly recommended. One of our best stays in Japan. Authentic Japanese house with spacious rooms, cozy vibe, lovely yard, great breakfast and amazing staffs providing superb services. We stayed in a room with a balcony overlooking the yard, was great for a cup of tea and a nice chat. Miki-san was an amazing host and helped us out a lot during our stay. Miki-san was so nice to us that it was touching... Not only did she helped with basic translations at tea ceremonies and local restaurant recommendation. she also helped us with our package, including driving us to the post office and helping us with the translation haha (we were really troublesome guests LOL) Thanks a lot, Miki-san! We will definitely choose to stay at Inase again for our next trip to Otsu.
Thanks to a close friend of mine, I booked this authentic Japanese-style B&B. My experience was more than expected! The room was spacious and cozy with a small powder room. Japanese-style breakfast was also yummy with freshly brewed coffee. In particular, Japanese tea ceremony led by the owner was great to be part of. Above all, I greatly appreciate Miki-san for what she has done for me (i.e., her translation during the tea ceremony and recommendation of the local izakaya for me and my friend). I wish all the best to this B&B and hope to be back in the future~
Nice and authentic Japanese style room, worth the money and time to go stay at this place. This place is near to the enryakuji by using the cable car. Is also world heritage and I found that not so crowded compare to those famous temple in Kyoto. The staff is nice and patience, she treat well to my young kids even they are a bit active that time. I'll strong recommend this place to my family and friends.
I am full of praise in every way for this delightful find! After Kyoto traffic and general congestion, it was great to realize I could stay in lovely, quiet lakeside Otsu and travel very easily and quickly to Kyoto for the day, plus to other places in Shiga! The hotel is simply the nicest place, it is beautifully designed and built, and the bed was super comfy, breakfasts great, everything fabulous. Lovely courtyard garden to view and use, and the staff were soooo lovely. It only has a few rooms so it is very quiet, rooms are twice the size of anywhere else I have stayed. Highly recommended, and I will return!
My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights recently. Rie and Miki were delightful and very helpful. The traditional breakfast was good. Be prepared to sleep on futons on the floor. They were comfortable and the doona was so cozy. The added touch was the tea ceremony and calligraphy lesson. Both free. We loved the deep bath (private) overlooking the garden. So relaxing. This place is not far from Kyoto and a laid back area with nice restaurants and a colourful fountain in Lake Biwa which dances every evening. My only complaint was that you can hear traffic, we were in the closest room to the lane way. It eased off about 11pm. The room walls are thin too so you have to respect each other. Laundry and dryer there for a small cost of 100 yen. A lovely place to stay with lovely memories.…
I really enjoy stayed in Inase Otsu as my first trip in Japan and in Kyoto. It was the best moment for me because everything nice, has tea ceremony and awesome breakfast also helpful guide. I hope next time i can stay again in here
We really enjoyed to stay at Inase, the house is beautiful and peacefull, with its inner garden and lovely living room. We are very thankfull for Miki and Rie for their friendliness, availability and their help for good restaurant and activities. We stayed 6 nights, it takes 15 mins to walk from the train station and a 10 mins train from Kyoto. We leave with great souvenirs: the amazing Otsu Matsuri, discovering Kyoto, Otsu and the bearby area, the tea ceremony , and more the kindness of all the people we met.
