This ryokan is located in an industrial area near the great lake. The surroundings are very ugly, but in return you have plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy. The hotel inside is nice, but outside is no big deal, except the entrance to it which is lovely. The baths, onsen, are reasonably clean, but in the morning when they...

The hotel staffs are very friendly and we feel welcome even with a gift for our toddler on arrival. We have borrow a few toys through our stay and that keep our 2.5 year old entertained. Our room 335 is a Japanese style room, we have ordered dinner in our room and it was lovely. There is shower in our...

Dantokan Kikunoya is a very traditional Japanese Hotel. The breakfasts are amazing (if you're looking to eat traditional Japanese food), the communal baths are just glorious and the shuttle service to the station is incredibly convenient. The rooms are spacious and well set up. The downside was that for the first day and a half of our 3 day stay,...

This place need about 35 mins drive from Kyoto city center. Mainly due to the traffic rather than distance. The staffs greeted us at an unprecedented polite manner while during the dinner, services render will put W or Ritz Carlton to corner shop style!! Absolutely well deserved 5 stars top rating!

I went to Dantokan Kukunoya with my partner in January. They were flexible and accommodating with the hotel pickup, we were a bit late for the 6:00 check in deadline (we got to the train station by 6:05, so not too bad, we just notified them last minute) and it was no problem. The check in went very smoothly. The...

We stayed in one of the more expensive rooms with a separate onsen, and while this was definitely a splurge, I am happy I did it. I am a firm believer that staying at a ryokan with a hot spring is a crucial part of experiencing Japan, and Kikunoya is a really nice place to do it. The staff were...

This hotel is located on the largest fresh water lake in Japan, Lake Biwa. The city in which it is located is called Otsu, the capital of Shiga Prefecture. The trip was about a 30-40 minute train ride from JR Kyoto station, making it pretty convenient and affordable side trip from Osaka and Kyoto. The hotel sent a shuttle bus...
