All in all it was a good experience. The room was a nice size and the view of the garden was beautiful. The onsen was nice and available for private bath with no trouble. The staff were sweet and gracious. The room was nice and warm due to the electric heater. I did not have dinner, but did have the... More

We loved our stay at Kankaso. The Kaiseki dishes were absolutely stunning, the onsen was unforgettable and the garden was gorgeous. Lucky we were so near the sights of Nara or we would have never left. There was a little old lady who spoke no English but showed us a wonderful time and I can't recommend this place highly enough.

We stayed here for a couple nights and really enjoyed it. They don't speak too much English here, but the service is superb. Our garden-view room was nice and spacious. The only downside was that it was so cold out that we didn't have the doors open too often to take advantage of it (didn't want to let the heat... More

Had a great time, wonderful food, and very nice room. The "general" as we called her, did her best to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and guided us through the expected protocol. The baths were amazing and relaxing. The views of the courtyard were stunning. The location near the temple and deer park makes it very easy to access the... More

We found the entrance to this Kankaso between gift shops on the road beside the Deer Park. My immediate concern was likely noise. However, I need not have been worried, once we were through the gate it was like being in a different world. This was an excellent stay, the food was superb and the staff very attentive. We had... We enjoyed a lot our separate room with bath and toilet. It was very spacious and quite. The service from both ladies was great. They were very patient with us and gave us tips about how to enjoy better the food. Which was really, really good kaiseki. When we check for rates this place seemed expensive for us, but after... Loved every single minute of my experience there. The location is excellent, just go out of the gate and you are already next to the deer :) I read before going there that dinner is wonderful, but after first course we were wondering if that's it, as nobody in the ryokan seemed to speak any english and dinner was served... She and her family were so friendly and had the primairy aim to make our stay perfect. A great onsen, helped to relax after a day of hiking in nara. The meals were alle so tastefull.... More

I love Aya, the elderly attendant/owner. She made sure that my wife and I had the onset all to ourselves, winked when she pulled out our futons, and corrected my barbarian habits with gentle delicacy. Great food. We sang 'sukiyaki' together. A must.
