The Hotel Nara appears to be a relic of the past yet it is very much in the present. Entering the hotel you feel like you are in a grand country hotel in Europe but you are definitely in Japan. The service is wonderful and the furnishing are very elegant. There is a split personality to the hotel. The main... More

Great service! They actually use SILVERware in the restaurant - very old and heavy - it is charming. Staff is very nice and hotel is very clean. They replace the towels, robes and even slippers (!) every day. You do have to pay for the coffee and tea in the room though. Wifi is free and is not bad at... More

It certainly does not always have to be sterile and ultramodern. This place certainly lets you feel how guests were attended to 100 years ago, and it is very charming. Stayed here 2 nights and loved the place. Only had breakfasts here, but they were very nice and the service was impeccable.

I have tried this hotel twice, in visits separated by about 15 years. The first time I went for afternoon tea, this time I stayed overnight. I took a deluxe twin on the ground floor of the old wing, hoping to maximise our enjoyment of this venerable accommodation. The room's best feature was the view from the window; the rest... More

Nestled in charming Nara is this distinguished residence. From it's facade to it's interior the whole auberge is historic to it's core. The bedchamber was spacious yet maintained a cosy feel. Breakfast options were excellent catering to all and most appetising!

I stayed at Nara hotel both in Dec. 2015 and this Jan. because the service was awesome and it's close to the Nara Park. I enjoyed the history of this building and its beautiful surroundings. The interior is like a museum with lots of collections of calligraphy, paintings, pictures and antiques. Staff members were very sincere and the restaurant recommendation... More

Stayed here two nights, room in "new wing", build in 1980's. Very traditional Japanese Architecture, but very nice rooms. We had a "Hollywood Twin" which was two double beds pushed together. Pretty good for Japan. Room was big, very nice, very clean. Halls smelled a little musty, but we were on the ground floor (basically the basement). Excellent service. Best... More

This is a beautiful, historic old hotel in the grand manner. It reminded me of a cross between a grand old national park lodge in the United States or Canada, and an old railroad hotel in England. It actually did not feel "Japanese" at all. This is not a criticism, just an observation. The location could not be better; a... More

Historical, grand and beautiful. The staffs are very professional, respectful and helpful. The details of the antique furnitures are amazing and brings you back in time. I had a memorable and wonderful stay in the Imperial Suite of Nara Hotel.

Hotel is stately & beautiful, if a bit worn in places. Rooms are serenely Japanese in decor, with Western beds & amenities. Location is good, with the Nara Hotel bus stop at the end of the long driveway. Breakfast is overpriced, if not included in your plan. Western breakfast especially is not worth it, tho the elegance of the dining... More
