The hotel is coasting on its past and personages of note. Reception was poor. Service was abysmal and disdainful. Amenities were non-existent. Room was clean and adequate and that was all that can be said. Of all the hotels and ryokans we have stayed in Japan over the years this was the most dismal. If visitors to Japan stayed exclusively...

Nara turned out to be one of our favourite spots of our time in Japan. Staff were really helpful and willing to help. Location was spectacular and had a really cosy vibe about the hotel. All the facilities were great for the cost!

Of the 5 hotels we stayed in whilst touring Japan, this was by far the best. Friendly and efficient check in, we were taken to our room and were given information about the amenities. A pleasant 10 minute walk to tourist areas and of course the park with the deer. We found that eating and drinking in the hotel was...

Our stay at the Nara Hotel was impeccable. The room was large and beautifully outfitted. Although the bathroom was small by North American standards, it was quite luxurious. The staff was consistently helpful and courteous. The amenities were modern, but the beauty of old Japan is present everywhere. As most places in Japan, it was spotlessly clean. The food was...

Everything including Impeccable service to ambience rooms and food were all excellent. This is an "old" Grand hotel. Loads of history and charm . Great grounds . Highly recommended for an elegant comfortable stay.

Clearly this was the Grand Dame of Hotels when it was opened in 1909. It retains an old world Japan charm to it -- it is elegant and clean, and certainly worth visiting. Very conveniently located for Todai-ji and Kasuga Taisha. Most importantly for us, the staff is exceptional -- in particular Kondo who surpassed himself by liaising with JRail...

Nara is known for the 'big Buddha' and the plethora of deer, a national treasure, in the surrounding deer park. The town is small and is a pleasant withdrawal from the hurly burly of most Japanese cities. Coming into Nara on what amounts to a commuter train into the downtown station (there is also the JR station), the Nara Hotel...

Spent one night at the Nara Hotel. Booked the room well in advance. When checking in we were offer an upgrade which we accepted. The room was very spacious and quiet at the East end of the hotel. Well worth the extra charge. The front desk personnel were very nice and accommodating.

This early twentieth century hotel frequently hosts royalty and celebrities, and the high prices reflect this, but it is worth it for a treat. The rooms, even the cheaper ones, are comfortable, and have little balconies. The whole hotel has a lovely scent of (cedar ?)wood, from which all the old part of the hotel is built. As you would...

We stayed three nights at the Nara Hotel. The hotel is a bit isolated, but Nara is a small city, and the hotel is walking distance from all of the main temples and tourist attractions. We did not mind the distance, as it also made for some amazing views from the hotel bar. The exterior of the hotel is beautiful,...
