Nara Hotel is beautiful and impressive in its Meiji restoration way. The original building is a mix of traditional Japanese and turn of the 20th century European sensibilities, with gorgeous woodwork and some stunning vistas of the gardens and park, including the Kofokuji pagoda. It is certainly luxurious, with prices to match. And high profile, as the Imperial Family's visits... More

Traditional, historical, classic old style hotel that makes you feel you have stepped back in time. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel and rooms are very clean. The location is great and only a short walk to the park, temples and shrines. The bathroom and soaking tub are older, but in good condition. We ate appetizers... More

We were in Nara for a day trip and our driver took us to this beautiful and quite place for coffee. We loved it so much ,decided to go there for lunch also. Being vegetarian it's very difficult to find a good place. The restaurant was very accommodating. Mr Sho Izaki was really helpful and so were the chefs and... More

A hotel famous for its history and is royal guests. My rickshaw driver pointed out that Michael Jackson had stayed there and it was his dream to spend his honeymoon there. I wasn't so impressed. More historical than luxurious. Creaking flooring, noisy with thin walls and the radiators banged alot. But nonetheless it was a pleasant stay in a beautiful... More

From the very second you first lay eyes on the hotel you are impressed with the immensity and the historic appeal of this classic Olde World Hotel. The service was extraordinarily cordial, the grounds around the hotel are extensive and their are 7 deer that seem to call them home. The deer will come visit you for the local deer... More

The Nara Hotel has good bones -- classic old structure with a lot of rich history. Service is a little slow, but quite good. Don't come expecting 21st century ambiance or amenities, however. That's not where it's charm lies. Also, very convenient location near major sights and Naramachi.

This hotel is unique and interesting The location is fantastic - very convenient for all temples and the park. The bar is a classic English style bar - very good and the Japanese style rooms are great fun - my daughter loves it. Service is excellent - friendly and helpful staff It's not modern - its traditional so don't expect... More

The Hotel Nara appears to be a relic of the past yet it is very much in the present. Entering the hotel you feel like you are in a grand country hotel in Europe but you are definitely in Japan. The service is wonderful and the furnishing are very elegant. There is a split personality to the hotel. The main... More

Great service! They actually use SILVERware in the restaurant - very old and heavy - it is charming. Staff is very nice and hotel is very clean. They replace the towels, robes and even slippers (!) every day. You do have to pay for the coffee and tea in the room though. Wifi is free and is not bad at... More

It certainly does not always have to be sterile and ultramodern. This place certainly lets you feel how guests were attended to 100 years ago, and it is very charming. Stayed here 2 nights and loved the place. Only had breakfasts here, but they were very nice and the service was impeccable.
