We have both traditional Japanese rooms and Japanese modern(fusion) type rooms. Kotonoyado Musashino is Nara's first ryokan in the history, and welcomed many great guests; the sword master Tesshu, novelist Junichiro Tanizaki, and the film star Toshiro Mifune! We believe the reason why our ryokan was loved by great people is thanks to the location in the beautiful Nara park,Wakakusayama, and Kasuga primeaval forest, our Kaiseki dinner quality, and the cozy, cultural ambiance of the house, with lots of Japanese ornaments and Ikebana flowers arranged by our landlady herself. And of course, we assure our best warmest hospitality to serve our guests from the world!

Kotonoyado Musashino ryokan was such a treat after our walk through Nara and Todaiji temple. We were greeted by Allison, who helped us through our first delightful ryokan experience. We had a lovely time experiencing a tea ceremony and enjoyed creating a flower arrangement, which they put in our room during our stay. It was a wonderful way to begin our ryokan experience. After our tea ceremony and flower arrangement, I chose a yukata and obi to wear for the rest of the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the onsen bath before our delicious kaiseki dinner. Our dinner was so colorful, and full to the taste and feel of autumn. The next morning, we enjoyed the onsen bath again, which was a lovely way to start the day. They served our breakfast in our room, which was another delicious meal. We cannot say enough good things about Kotonoyado Musashino. The staff was so helpful and friendly in every aspect of our stay and made us feel at home. They helped us keep our luggage after we checked out so we could go visit Kasuga Taisha shrine, which is just a short 5 minute walk away. Such kindness and hospitality was much appreciated in our first ryokan experience. Arigato gozaimasu Kotonoyado Musashino.

We had a great time staying at this ryokan. Included in our stay were so many special details unique to Japan...tea ceremony, yukatas, summer kimonos, onsen, kaiseki dinner, tatami mats/futons, and flower arranging demonstration. (The public bath was amazing!) The staff was very nice and attentive, and the location was great---just steps from one of the most visited temples in Nara. The flower arrangement demonstration was fun, but very short. The meals were delicious, and the kaiseki dinner included in the hotel price would have likely cost a fortune in a restaurant. I had wished that we could have been served dinner in our room, and my oldest daughter had hoped to receive a meal more similar to the adults. Looking back, I wish that I had specifically requested those things before we arrived. But overall, we had such a fun time and feel that it was worth the price because it included the meals, yukata/kimono (we could walk around the area and eat in our yukata/kimono), tea ceremony, etc.

Our staying in this ryokan was better than expected. The calm and silence, the staff's hospitality, all their considerations and cares with us...for both of us it was an unforgettable experience. The tea ceremony, having dinner in the tatami, wearing the traditional clothes, having an open bath at late night, the bento box breakfast in the hills...so many memories!!! We'll never forget Arisa's closeness, patience, sense of humor and all her efforts showed to make us feel like being at home.

We had the most wonderful time staying at this ryokan right in Nara Park. From the tranquil simplicity of our tatami mat room (with air conditioning, so we slept in comfort even in the middle of August), to the delicious (and beautifully presented) meals in the intimacy of our private dining room, to the luxurious public bath (we are absolute converts; why can’t every country have an onsen tradition?), we enjoyed every aspect of our stay. We also really appreciated the tea ceremony and short flower arrangement session that were part of our booking. Thank you to everyone at Kotonoyado Musachino who made us feel so welcome!

This is a great ryokan, and I was very close to giving 5 stars. Would give 4.5 if it was an option. The location is right in the middle of Nara park, but still conveniently accessible by car. The entire staff is very attentive and the service was excellent. The room was a nice size traditional tatami room, which worked well for our family of four. The bathroom was a bit too small to be comfortable, but the onsen is available to stretch out and relax. The onsen is indoors, but very nice and there is a fenced outdoor area if you want to spend a little time outside during your bath. Dinner is served in the room and the presentation of the kaiseki meal was fantastic. However, despite the beautiful presentation, ultimately I didn't like the flavors of the dinner very well. It was summer season and many of the dishes were cold for that reason. Also, while we are fairly adventurous eaters, many of the dishes did not resonate well with a Western palette. So while I appreciated the dinner, I didn't really enjoy it and that is why I couldn't go for the five stars. Breakfast was also served in the room and was excellent. I would definitely recommend Musashino. It is a very well run ryokan.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for staying with us. We are so grateful for your review, and also we sincerely would like to learn from your comment. Japanese Kaiseki cuisine has developed mainly with fish. And the menu changes every season. That's a feature, but some people who don't like it because it's different from another food culture. I think the culture difference is very interesting and we try to enjoy the difference for our guests. We're looking forward to seeing you again! Thank you once again for choosing Kotonoyado Musashino and your kind review for us!
