Have loved Toba for many years..and stayed at the Toba Grand many times. Only on 1 occasion was I lucky enough to stay in a Sakura room on the 8th floor…but not so lucky on this my last stay in Toba. The good points: 1.Free shuttle to/from the hotel and the driver handed out wet towels on this occasion 2.Welcome drinks in the lobby 3.A good selection of food for dinner & breakfast 4.The hot spring baths are good. The bad points: 1.The hotel is badly in need of refurbishment in the rooms on 6th & 7th floors/Badly stained & old windows and the room and bathroom/toilet are out of date. 2.The restaurant area is really dirty in certain places and insects can be seen running about! The were too many families with young children here this time and the restaurant was crowded all the time it seemed. 3.The Japanese staff have no English language skills…but the abundance of Nepalese staff at this hotel at present helps a little in that regard. This hotel has a wonderful location…and if you want to look out at the water then it is good…but as mentioned Toba seems to be a neglected area in many respects…and this is certainly true for this hotel at present.

Still great! Stayed at this hotel 2 years ago before the world changed due to the pandemic and was lucky enough to stay in a Sakura room on the 8th floor at that time…so was hoping to stay there again! Unfortunately no such luck as the hotel was completely full (it seemed) with a lot of families and a coach party (not the best feeling as we move out of the pandemic!) The pluses: Free shuttle from the train station Welcome drinks in the lobby (1 alcoholic drink per person) Shampoo and body soap bar…if interested Fantastic selection and quality of the dinner and breakfast buffets Large baths which allow you to feel pretty isolated even when quite full. The minuses: The rooms on the 5/6/7th floors have seen better days….rooms near the hot spring baths on the 2/3 & 4th floors seems to be the best along with the Sakura rooms on the 8th floor. Pretty noisy from 7 am at the front of the hotel. Presence of groups at this time does not add to a feeling of safety. All in all…so glad that this hotel has survived the last year and a half! Would definitely stay again if I could get a good deal!

You will get shock with the gorgeous scenery when you step in the lobby 5/F, wide and comfortable view with free welcome drinks - that’s so amazing! However, when you just step into the room, nightmare started! In our room 2/F there are so many cockroaches in the bathroom and sleeping room (crawling around on the walls, the floor and even on the beds) it’s so horrible and disgusting! I had never expected this in Japan, very pity!

Booked this hotel at the last minute. There is a free shuttle bus that runs from Toba station between 2.45 and 6 pm (that's the last one) Wet towels were handed out by the driver which was an unexpected extra. The reception staff spoke great English and made the checkin procedure effortless. Room on the 8th floor (Sakura) was beautiful. It appeared to have been recently refurbished with twin beds on a step up platform.Beautiful seaviews out to a docked cruise ship and the wifi in the room worked well. Between 2.30 - 6.30 the hotel provides a welcome drink service for guests (1 alcoholic drink per person) plus numerous soft drink and hot options. There was even a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration by one of the staff who again spoke great English. The 5th floor provides a comfortable seating area with great views onto the water. Breakfast the next morning was served on the 4th floor. The selection was good (especially for Japanese food) but the restaurant lacked any real atmosphere. The hot spring baths are on the 1st or 2nd floors. It was quite a walk to get there as the 6th,7th and 8th floors are in a different part of the hotel. This means taking 1 elevator or the stairs to the 5th floor and then another to the 2nd floor. There was no English signage in the bath area so it might be a little confusing for English speakers but the reception hand out an English sheet which explains things in simple terms. The bath was completely empty after 09.30 (closes for cleaning at 10) All in all an excellent value stay.Would definitely come again if I could get a Sakura room. For those who plan to use the hot springs the rooms on the 2nd,3rd and 4th floors are much more convenient.

Stayed here on a tour of Japan. The location is beautiful, the food was good, but our rooms were moldy with dirty walls and peeling wallpaper. Dim lights made the dirty floors less obvious. Was not the charming ryokan I imagined. Only free drinks at the happy hour made it tolerable.

Toba Grand Hotel is a 4-star Japanese style hotel set on the seafront promenade on the Pacific coast. We stayed in a 4-bed room which is clean and well equipped. The room has a breathtaking ocean view. Especially attractive is the view of the ocean bay from the hotel lobby. A luxury dinner is included in the price. Guests have at disposal an Onsen public bath and appropriate Japanese clothing. Guests also have free bus transfer to the Toba railway station. The staff is friendly and very kind. All in all, the hotel deserves the highest rating. .

It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we stayed at Toba Grand. It's a lovely hotel with pleasant olden charm. The views overlooking the ocean and bay are truly magnificent! We received free pickup service from the Toba train station. Upon arrival we receive wonderful service from reception. She was absolutely kind, polite and very courteous in serving us and checking us in to our room. We experienced very friendly and professional service from all the hotel staff through our stay. The hotel lobby is a great place to relax and take in the view overlooking the islands and bay. The food was delicious and there was a great selection of food to choose from at dinner and breakfast. The restaurant staff were all very attentive and friendly. We even received a free wedding anniversary gift when we went to have our dinner. The room was very spacious and clean with everything available to make the stay comfortable and relaxing. There is an Onsen public bath on the bottom level where you can enjoy a nice Japanese Onsen experience. There is also an exit where can experience the Onsen outdoors overlooking the beach and ocean. The drivers were very friendly when picking us up and dropping us off the next morning. We're absolutely happy and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone when visiting Toba, Japan. The hotel staff are very nice and make the stay so much more comfortable. Thank you Toba Grand! どうもありがとうございました
