This takes the best of a homestay and hostel and blends it well. Bed with privacy curtains were comfortable, rooms (with the exception of the bathroom and hallways, considered normal in Japan) were heated and very warm. It was snowing outside so we appreciated it. Hot shower and large 6 bed dorm room. Everything is clean. We stayed 2 nights... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here in early January. Hiro was very welcoming and and we had an easy check in. We booked the downstairs traditional tatami room. The room was spacious and we got our own heated traditional table! As well as another gas heater. The room wasn't completely traditional but Hiro's touches made it cosy- artwork, decorations, nice... My friend and I stayed here one night. It is easy to get to from the train station via bus and is in a great location right near the bridge. The host was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The guest house itself is very cosy with a communal lounge area where the host provided us with traditional Japanese soups, teas &... More

Stayed at the female dorm for a night. Great location, 2-minute walk from the nearest bus stop "shinkyo", which is merely 5-minute ride from Nikko station. Perfect place for exploring the shrines, which is accessible in less than 10-minute walk. Cozy common area with a big window that you could enjoy the colorful foliage in the morning simply sitting down... More

This Guesthouse is in a great location literally across the street from where most of the main sites in Nikko are. The hostel is clean and Hiro is a fantastic host! I would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to Nikko

This hostel is very nice! The location is perfect, just steps away from the famous bridge and the world heritage sites. The hostel is clean and very comfortable, you can hear the river which makes it very nice to sleep. The owner is very friendly and helpful and speaks good english.

Nikkoriso is just around the corner from where you want to be in Nikko, namely the world heritage temple area. Plus, the bus stop that takes you everywhere else is not even a minute away and you will need the bus if you stay more than one day at least. Walking to the train station takes 20 minutes. Or you... My friend and I arrived around 20.00 at Nikkoriso and all stores for food near by were already closed. Luckily, Hiro drove us to the next supermarket and we could cook an easy meal in the big kitchen. We were really grateful and it was a fun evening with cooking, talking and watching funny Japanese TV. I really enjoyed my... More

Pros: Great location if you want to visit the shrines and Lake Chuzenji. The hostel is located no more than a 5 minute walk from Shinkyo bus stop. Shinkyo bus stop is about a 5 minute bus ride from the Tobu Nikko train station (where you may arrive if coming from Tokyo). The hostel is within walking distance to the... More

My husband and I recently spent a month travelling in Japan, and Nikko was our second stop. We just loved our three days in Nikko and our choice of accommodation at the Nikkorisou. Hiro, our host, was really friendly and helpful. The house was lovely and homey - just perfect for backpackers. We were able to book the private room,... More
