We booked for 3 nights and extended to 4 nights as the location was so amazing. Set in a stunning forest with crystal clear river rushing past that is safe enough to swim. The large, covered patio area where breakfast is served is perfect to just sit back, relax and appreciate nature. There are also couple of Japanese style, tatami...

The space river hostel is located in a very beautiful area. Perfect for swimming, hiking and star gazing. This could have been a 10/10 unique perfect hostel that i would pay more for if the host knew what he is doing. Scout does try but he has no idea how to run the place. He is always disappearing somewhere and...

Although spaceriver hostel is located about 20 min outside of Nikko, scout offers a pick up and drop off service. He is willing to oblige your requirements, you just have to be clear when you want to leave/be picked up. The hostel itself is located right on a river which makes for an amazing location for your morning coffee. He...

First thing I'll say is that nobody should be put off by the location of this hostel being far from the town. It's not an issue at all because the owner, Scout, runs a shuttle bus service into town every morning and picks you up in the afternoon also. He is flexible with the times also, so if you wanted...

Scout is the absolute man when it comes to hospitality. He really goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is satisfied. The location is also stunning and I can't wait to go again! Make sure you bring clothes to swim in the river!

At first we were a bit suprised, Scout (the owner) picked us up at the trainstation in a tiny car.. which was fun allready. The hostel it self looks like it could use some maintenance.. but we found out he does everything and manage the hole thing by himself..have so much respect for that. It is located close to the...

Absolutely superb location! The river is supremely beautiful and there are plenty of opportunities for walks/hikes in the area. A superior service compared to any hostel I've ever stayed. Fantastic breakfasts and great flexible shuttles. The atmosphere was just perfect. Highly recommend!

Enjoy a hostel which is much more than just a place to stay between day-adventures, this retired Onsen is set along a running river/waterfall (lovely sound to fall asleep to). While it's not an ideal location for exploring Nikko, the host offers shuttle services to and from the hostel each morning and night (several options available) and knows the ins...

We went here on my birthday to escape the city life. Deep within the mountains of Nikko and nestled beside a calm river, this place offers an amazing retreat to was away your stress. We got one of the private cabins away from the main building. It has an amazing view of the river and a short hike away from...

Amazing unique place! For the price, you can't beat the experiences. I have been to many 5-stars hotel all over the world, and I am very happy with the little hostel. The architecture of this hostel and the serenity of the location (next to a river) is an adventure in itself. The bathing facilities is like WHOA..I noticed multiple people...

“There are dorms inside the main buildings and outside in a converted train carriage. Same for the private rooms; some inside main building, some stand alone cottages.”

“Annexes look lovely, but with so much great communal and riverside area - do you need the private view? The dorm is lovely and airy, with high ceilings. The private double was fine, but a little hot without aircon in the summer.”
