Shinugawa Onsen is a spa town along the "angry devil" river, populated by small devil statues. It's close to a beautiful gorge, Edo wonderland and about 30-mins by local train to Nikko (310 yen one way). The hotel is 15 mins walk or there's a "dial bus" that you can book through reception for 200 yen. The hotel is interesting,... More

Room was cheap for the area, large with a great view (we were on the 8th floor). However, it had pretty dated decor and facilities. Unfortunately the room also smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke. I am a light smoker myself but don't want a room smelling like that. We told reception and the guy came up and sprayed the... More

The hotel was very quiet and we could enjoy a peaceful stay. There were almost no other guests while we were there, and we were given a room on the highest floor. The room is clean and very big! We read reviews that it was spacious but were still surprised by the size. Beds were comfortable, and amenities including yukata... More

This place is very clean and has decent sized room, and of course reasonably priced. You can rent a private onsen (hot-springs bath) for $30 for 50 minutes, though small. But if you don't feel comfortable being naked to go in hot-springs around strangers, this is a great option. The receptionist at the hotel was not very friendly though...I guess... More

When we opened our room door, we thought "wow, we lucked out!" Our spacious room, complete with a couple tables and massive wardrobes overlooked part of the town and had a fantastic view of the mountains. The friendly staff organized for us to be picked up for free by a local cheap restaurant for a delicious and cheap dinner, then... More
