We had a three night stopover in Japan on the way home from New Zealand, and took some care in choosing the hotel as we knew we would have a lot of luggage. It's very close to the YCAT terminal which is a huge plus, but it's not THAT easy to reach due to all the stairs in the station (no fault of the hotel). It took us about 20 minutes to drag all of our bags to the Richmond from YCAT. Without the bags it went much quicker. This hotel checks all the boxes. The friendly reception staff let us store two suitcases, the checkin was efficient, the high floor room request was honored, the room was compact but not poky. It had all the amenities one would expect from a 4 star hotel: big, comfortable bed, flat screen TV, fancy toilet with bidet, lighting controls from the bed. We chose a rate that included breakfast, and (as common in many JP hotels) it was outsourced to the cafe connected to the hotel. The breakfast itself was good with a decent selection. Not the best hotel breakfast I have had, but definitely no complaints. Despite the noisy surroundings outside, the room was relatively quiet and it was possible to black out the windows with the curtains. Bed was comfortable, and cleaning was impeccable. It wasn't a cheap tariff though, and while I can accept that centrality comes at a cost, it was perhaps a little expensive. Would stay here again should we need to stay in Yokohama.…
How many times do you have to check in if you book few consecutive nights. The answer from Richmond Hotel was once daily!! I booked a late 9pm check in room but arrived early. I'm asked to pay extra in order to check in earlier. If I didn't pay, I have to check out at 11am and check in again at 9pm everyday. I'm shocked. I'm a business traveller and haven't heard of such policy in anywhere on earth. I reconfirmed with the front desk staff and she said "Yes, check in and check out again everyday". I did rise my voice and said "It is ridiculous! I can pay but I don't think I will choice your hotel again". Suddenly, another staff jumped in, "If you are not happy, go to other hotels". Second shock!! I'm asked by a Richmond Hotel's staff to leave the hotel. Later I found out she's the Front Desk Manager named Ilina, a Caucasian face. During Corona Viral outbreak, how could a single woman leave and go to other hotel! I had no choice but only stayed at her hotel like a dog. I'm a Chinese, I believed she discriminated me and wanted to kick me out from her hotel. An extremely bad experience!!…
Only a short walk from Yokohama Station (although the route might be a little hard to find at first) with tons of eateries and a large drug store downstairs. Breakfast is in the Royal Host restaurant so don’t expect western hotel standards but food is of good quality and ample selection. We had a twin room and it was new and reasonably sized by Japan standards. Check-in and check-out were efficient and friendly with free choice of toiletries. It doesn’t offer a nice view like the hotels near the Yokohama Bay Area but is well located if you need to take the JR to/from Tokyo or other areas.
I have seen many hotels in Japan already. This offers decent and very clean rooms (bigger as usual). Breakfast is nice, location is great and JR station nearby. Also, there are plenty of restaurants in the area. Will stay again if I come back...
I booked one night a couple of weeks ago last-minute to meet up with my university classmate over yakitori nearby. Been years since I was last in Yokohama and the number of station exits initially confused me. But once figured out - pretty happy how very close to the station it is. Family size standard room, decent facility, very clean non-smoking room, and plenty of places to drink, eat etc nearby. Well connected in terms of trains and metro etc. Recommended.
